I would have liked to see the board plugged in to a screen and fired up. It would have made the repair complete. I have watched similar backlight repairs, but when the screen was plugged in, the problem was not solved... but the short to ground was resolved. But thank you for making the video. I liked the software too.
I got a spare iPhone 6 board I'm practicing on, just for a hobby would like to see if I can get this backlight to work. should these caps have continuity through them after you remove them from the board? I used to be able to see the apple logo with no backlight. removed the board. removed the shield. while waiting for my am scope I decided to see if I could still see the logo so plugged the board back in and now no logo. lol think I'm getting into the wrong hobby!!! oh, my computer recognizes the iPhone and I can hear it taking pictures, but like I said, no logo
oh yes, amscope came in. replaced the basic backlight filter and while inspecting everything else noticed 2 other filters missing. R0703, which is right above the backlight capacitors and filter C1144. This one is below and to the left of the main backlight filter. I'm stuck. I have no where to buy these filters any suggestions
So I have an iPhone 6 w/ no backlight. Had a short to cap, which I replaced and short is gone. Swapped the diode and still no backlight/display at all..nothing but darkness. Do you think it's driver ic related from your experience?
if you just have darkness, then it's not backlight related. If it's the backlight system, then you should see an apple logo or some image on the screen. The most common "completely dark" problem is long screw damage. Check the screwholes.
Hi there, I am out of caps from a donor board and cannot get them anywhere in the uk. I see your replacement is slightly different looking size, what are you using from pls? the closest I can find is off an ipad 4 C8124 being a 2.2UF 10% 25V 805 X5R-CERM iphone 6 cap being 2.2UF 20% 25V is this a poss replacement. appreciate any help on this, thanks
Ah thanks for the link it gave me more of an idea what to search for (as you said the iPad 4 was twice as big) I understand the 402 to the 805 now, I found a UK company that had stock on their website, had to order 100 but under a penny it was a no brainer with next day delivery. 2 days later I called them and got an apology they had no stock but sending them from Japan haha Anyhow I found 2 on a 5S donor board I have, so I'm out of trouble for the moment until I am flooded with them Thanks for your time
Hello. Could you tell me what the line that carries the backligth ignition command is called that comes from the processor? I have an iPhone 6 plus which does not power the backligth. I have already reviewed all the filters, the 2 diodes, the 2 ic and all are correct. I have the hunch that the 2 ic do not receive the power signal from the processor. The problem is that I do not know what that signal is, I do not know the name or the way to prove if it is present. Can somebody help me ? In advance thanks. I do not speak English but I use the google translator.
Dungo Rojas it should be labeled something like i2c. I believe you should get 1.8v constant on those lines. With that said, I haven't seen any with bad serial lines yet unless the pads are obviously torn
I will check that, friend. But apparently the problem is that they put a large screw and damaged the tracks underneath. I have tried to see the continuity of the broken tracks but I do not know how the zxw is configured to show me the path of the tracks under the screw. Can you tell me how? Damage under screw BS2502
How did you get a business like this started? I went to board repair school and there I learned to read schematics. The business I work does not believe this business is profitable. I just want to prove them wrong.... I just want to do what I love
I think the biggest thing was getting a good domain name and starting the internet marketing early with organic SEO. Also, ifixit wrote an article about my website, which helped tremendously. It's definitely a highly profitable business because the overhead is little, especially if you don't have a physical location. The key to any business is marketing though. Profitability means nothing if you don't have volume.
Microsoldering this is what I want to do for the rest of my life but it seems I'm on my own on this one. I know I have the skills and the knowledge and discipline to do it. I just need a way to start. I'm only 17 and I do have a wife and child, but I know what I want. I've went to board repair school and learned basic knowledge but everything else I have been learning myself. Don't really have anyone in this area microsoldering to hear opinions
Maybe go talk to a few cell phone repair shops and see if they have any business for you. The idea is to open one door and hopefully it'll lead you other doors, until you eventually find your way.
like wtf..? capacitors were ringing.. it means somthing shorted to the ground.. and he goes first thin to remove is diode.. the only thing which could happened with diode is just brake off and alow flowing current both ways.. so to check it just put your multimeter on diode.. if it rings.. change it.. if not so not
I just came to say this, that diode does not go to ground, it cannot short to ground and cannot be the cause of a short to ground. Its often damaged in these because it gets overloaded but its not the source of your problem.
I'm sure he knows this probably why youve not been answered, cap has blown for what ever reason its quite common for any of the 3 caps on the line to go on the iphone 6 and cause the short, the one I have infront of me is the centre cap (1st one i pulled thankfully). Then it blows the diode which does not go to ground as Robert said. wtf... Did you watch the video
love all the videos keep them coming.
I find that sewing needle are useful in getting into those tight spots to remove gunk. oh..and i love the video!!
Lot easier if you remove the epoxy and the coil to work on all of that ; )
What kind of probes are those?
Is that a quick 861dw that you use there ? If it is then how do you adjust it when you grab a touch ic's on iphone 6 plus ?
I would have liked to see the board plugged in to a screen and fired up. It would have made the repair complete. I have watched similar backlight repairs, but when the screen was plugged in, the problem was not solved... but the short to ground was resolved. But thank you for making the video. I'll see what I can do with the final booting up video in future videos.
what do you use to fix a board that has the coating scratched away bridging components to ground?
If I used hot air in this repair instead of an iron do you think results would be different with the disintegrating diode?
i use hot air now.

hi there, What computer software are you using I'd like to download it but I don't know what it's called, and where to look for it?
Thanks

Thank you very much :)
i have the same backlight problem , how much do you charge to fix?
Please go to microsoldering.com and request a quote
hello what is the diode part # ?
thank you
Hi, what mode is your multi-meter in to make the beep through the caps? What model are you using? TIA
Continuity mode or diode mode. It's the triangle with the line to the right of it.
So I have an iPhone 6 w/ no backlight. Had a short to cap, which I replaced and short is gone. Swapped the diode and still no backlight/display at all..nothing but darkness. Do you think it's driver ic related from your experience?

What brand of hot tweezers are you using there, they look kind of big.
+Larry Johnson Hakko FM-2023

I buy all of my caps from digikey.com. I think that ipad 4 cap will be too big. It's best to just get a donor board.

Hola me puede ayudar, perdi el coil l1503 por cual le puedo sostituir
This is a lot easier if you remove the coil first and I think you need smaller tweezers lol
