Something about my favorite movie in 2024???? 9 is so underrated and it deserved so much more. I am so sad we will never get anything more from this amazing universe especially since the company that made it went under years ago
That's for the best. I love this movie, and its characters, but that's exactly why I don't want a sequel. Not having a sequel is the best thing 9 and his friends can honestly get.
Remember finding out about this film in a super obscure way. Back in 2009 there was a niche community that made fake film trailers, I remember a fake trailer had the audio of the 9 film trailer. I got curious since it sounded interesting, looked for it, and found the trailer. Then I waited until September for the film to come out
The really sad part is that so many movies that got a cult following started out as earning very low on the Box Office revenue, so sequels to movies that eventually got a big audience may never create a sequel for us. There are so many underrated gems out there that we won't see more of their stories and world building just because they were too ahead of their time. But we can still hope, at least.
9 has been my favorite movie since middle school, I remember drawing my own characters for a spinoff I had in my own head that followed a different group in the story made by a seperate scientist. Something abouta movie with a post apocolyptic world that didnt star Humans, and instead had these little characters that came after was so amazing and its so far to see films without humans at all (besides one being the scientist). Ive accepted we may never get a sequal but Ill always love it and Ill always believe in Shane Acker getting another chance to either make a sequel or a new movie himself because he has a creative mind.
I remember coming across the original short film before the full length version was a thing and being completely blown away by it. The fact that one guy created it by teaching himself 3d animation sparked something in me that caused me to get into 3d animation myself (in like 2006/2007 or so, before 3d animation was much of a thing you could easily pursue). I used to show that short film to everyone I could. Haha. Other than some beautifully animated sequences (and an amazing trailer), I was actually kind of disappointed in the final film when it first came out. It still holds a special place in my heart, though. I should throw it on again later today. Great video!
I loved this movie from the day it came out .....showed my wife the movie when we got together because she somehow missed it and she loved it too i think people werent ready for it when it came out
Does anyone else remember the character cards at the comic-con conventions? You'd scan the code on your phone, and it would show a 3d model of the characters
Yes, I am currently trying to access my files on old laptop, but trying to not get my hopes up though. Would you like to see the screenshots and images?
Even though this movie scared me so much when I was younger I think it deserves a sequel because it’s so good in all aspects like story and animation and just being revolutionary
God this was my hyperfixation back in 2009. Fun Fact: I actually met Elijah Wood at ComicCon when they were advertising for the movie. 3, 4, and 6 were my favorite Stitchpunks. Sad it never got a sequel. It's one of my favorite movies.
I saw this in the theater, and it was really special. Not the big-eyed sanitized pablum the big studios have been peddling to the masses for decades. It also wasn't grimdark just for edgy teen appeal either. This and Dark City are among my favorite movies, for similar reasons.
5:24 partly. Thing is: 30mil is without budget on marketing + fee that cinemas take (about 50% from a ticket), which means if you're movie made 48mil, you only get 29.
Shane Acker expressed wanting there to be a sequel. 9 to this day is still my favorite movie just because of the uniqueness of the characters, if it's possible I think Shane Acker should get the rights back to 9 somehow or start making some noise for focus features so people will start paying attention.
9 is a fantastic example of how great movies are not determined by dollar amounts but by consistent fan dedication to the stories because lets face it, as naturally, existing organisms, we dont need to care about things like movies or books...............but we do. So, when we do eventually care, studios need to take notice after a while & get things done as a responsibility to the original trajectory that they themselves started.
@ 5:29 the main reason for why studios say this is because of marketing budgets, those aren’t typically publicized but it costs a lot to market films, usually the marketing budget is equal to the production budget depending on the studio and or project and that’s why films aren’t considered profitable until they make more than that. Plus the amount of revenue theaters take.
I never really knew anyone else in real life that watched 9. It was just sort of a thing that I had loved, but nobody else to really share it with. Once I got more onto the internet a few years later, I realized there was an actual following for it. I wish we could just get something more for it.
One thing to remember about box office, it made 18 million more than the budget yes, but theaters take about one third of the profits of a movie, also the budget of a movie doesn’t count for marketing costs which tend to cost about one quarter to one third of the budget, those are very rough numbers every movie is different. For example avengers endgame had a budget of over 300 million and the marketing was also over 300 million. So more than likely 9 broke even at best, if not lost money at the box office.
With the technology we have today, imagine what a high budget 9 sequel could be. I believe this could have been a solid franchise that I would 1000% follow
We'd be lucky if the sequel was in comic book form. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. i mean, I've heard nothing but praise for the unofficial sequel comics to movies like The Thing,The Warriors, and Jurassic Park. But back to 9, and I'm still blown away, watching as an adult years after watching as a kid. The many allegories towards Nazis the Holocaust and Christianity(specifically catholicism)are all over the place.
As a Jew, the word Adonai is written on the blueprint for the machine, that creates the stichmen, this is a allegory for the Jewish golden which was brought to life using the names of God and the Hebrew language
Good point. This isn't the first time I've heard that the stich punks were Golems, but it is interesting to hear a Jewish person's view on it. Is there anything else you've noticed while watching it? Actually, now that you mentioned it, the Scientist might as well be inspired by Albert Einstein or Oppenheimer.
I remember watching this movie back in 2018 or 19 and low key forgot the plot of it. But what I remember from my brain rotting mind that me and my cousin which who I watch with like the plot even tho I don’t remember much a lot. I would love to rewatch 9 sometime in the near future
I was 8 when my mom's boyfriend at the time decided it would be a great idea for the family to watch this in theaters and I was crying so much out of fear that the boyfriend kicked me out of the theater room till the movie was over while they got to watch the rest of it and I never saw it till I was an adult😅
They only receive 50% of the box office, the rest goes to the theaters. On top of the production budget there is the advertising/promotion budget which is usually 50%-100% of the original production budget.. Conservatively this movie cost $45 million to produce and promote with only a $24 million dollar return. This means the film lost somewhere in the neighborhood of $20 million dollars. For a small budget film without alot of potential upside and a $20 million dollar loss, the chances of a sequel is very unlikely. I absolutely love this movie but it is likely to be a one off in this universe.
You know i never actually watch this movie before ... so im going to now brb Ok update i just finished watching it and it was pretty good and its sad that will probably never get the sequel cause i would love to see it
I love the movie I was just disappointed that Coheed & Cambria music was nowhere since they advertised the movie using their music and the whole device looks like it takes massive inspiration from Coheeds "keywork" design. With the modern state of movie industry and then trying to push some stupid agenda no one cares about I don't want a sequel to be made bc they undoubtedly stuff a bunch of stupid politics and gender crap into it that will cause it to flop hard like everything they put out nowadays.
Why would one male scientist's soul spit out a woman piece without it being "gender crap" come on now dude. You're the one who changed, authors stayed honest and showed you more truth you didn't like. Bury your head deeper in the sand I guess but it will never bring you love and care like you need ya know. I used to dismiss Coheed as "just a sad guy just a normal totally safe trustworthy sad guy" music because fan base behavior, then listened to them and was like well fuck this gets my inner just a dude just a guy going and realized there was more there to get out of it and appreciate.
A 9 sequel isn't what I hope for it's what I'm dreading. I love this movie and its characters... but that's exactly why I don't want one, for their sake. These characters have suffered enough, and the ending did them so dirty.

very underrated honestly

I had the same thought! I absolutely love this movie
@AbsoluteGERMAN No... it doesn't.
I loved it too , not a lot of people got it

I loved navigating the website before the domain was lost. It was super interactive and had loads of unseen lore
You dont realize how exited i got when i saw something about my number 1 favorite film. in 2024!!!!
Such an underrated film that I thought was so fucking cool as I grew up.
I desperately want a sequel, focus entertainment please let it happen.

Does anyone else remember the character cards at the comic-con conventions? You'd scan the code on your phone, and it would show a 3d model of the characters
i had no idea they made character cards, thats fire
Yes, I am currently trying to access my files on old laptop, but trying to not get my hopes up though. Would you like to see the screenshots and images?
They where convention only which was a shame. Back in 2009 some where for sale on places like ebay, dont know if they are now
I watched this on acid and ive never been quiet the same.
This is so real
Acid, eh?
That's because drugs ruin your brain
Cool?
@@unripetheberrby6283 very cool

WE WERE GONNA GET A SEQUEL??? I LOVED 9 AS A KID
one of my favorite childhood movies
They could've made an actual 9 SEQUEL??!! 😭😭❤️
Oooooh. I forgot all about this movie. Another banger from this channel.
9 is still one of my favorite animated movies
9 was so good!
it really was!
I remember watching that movie as a kid scared the crap out of me
I always felt like 9 should've gotten a sequel with all the lore and mysteries in the first movie
9 is a fantastic example of how great movies are not determined by dollar amounts but by consistent fan dedication to the stories because lets face it, as naturally, existing organisms, we dont need to care about things like movies or books...............but we do. I had never even heard of the film but I’m just glad to see you back in my feed ❤
I loved this movie, saw it on TV many years ago, it was original, it was creative, i never seen anything like it
I watched this when I was like idk 6 and I still have nightmares about this occasionally
The world wasn’t ready for
9 terrified me as a kid but i couldnt help but rewatch it over and over again

The theaters only make money on the concessions , so what would that have to do with it?
I never really knew anyone else in real life that watched 9. It was just sort of a thing that I had loved, but nobody else to really share it with. Once I got more onto the internet a few years later, I realized there was an actual following for it. I wish we could just get something more for it.
9's sequel? That would be 10 good sir
I don’t mind 9 not having a sequel. It’s good enough on its own.
Always throw me for a wrench when John C Riley starts talking
director comentary was my favorite parts of dvds. you get soo much information from the film.......well most of the time lol

9’s gotta be one of my favorite underrated movies
I went to go see this movie at the theater when I was a kid. ❤
This was the first film I ever took a girl out on a date to. I think about it every once in a while.
With the technology we have today, imagine what a high budget 9 sequel could be. I believe this could have been a solid franchise that I would 1000% follow

I LOVE 9!!! WE FINALLY GOT AN UPDATE YESS
I think we we'll see movie 9 part 2 in 2029
It’s 3:20 am me and my girl are on shrooms watching this, it’s kinda funny because we were just talking about the movie 9
I’ve never seen this movie, the only thing I remember was Coheed and Cambria’s Welcome Home being in the trailer I think. That song is great.
There was a SEQUEL? As in "9²"?! I remember Глуховский re-writing the script of the original movie for Russian audience, maybe he knows something.
Sorry for the spam, I went I to deepdives throughout the years about this film. I never forgot about it.
The commentary clip comes across as a tongue-in-cheek joke about sequel films
I remember watching this movie back in 2018 or 19 and low key forgot the plot of it. But what I remember from my brain rotting mind that me and my cousin which who I watch with like the plot even tho I don’t remember much a lot. I would love to rewatch 9 sometime in the near future
I loved this movie as a kid. Never knew the history behind it!!
The 9 video game was available on FLIP PHONES btw
I love the story of 9
I love 9, but after seeing what happened with Megamind and its "sequel", I think I'm okay with the people behind it not making a sequel
The one movie that used Coheed and Cambria for their promotional stuff. 🤟🤟
I was 8 when my mom's boyfriend at the time decided it would be a great idea for the family to watch this in theaters and I was crying so much out of fear that the boyfriend kicked me out of the theater room till the movie was over while they got to watch the rest of it and I never saw it till I was an adult😅
tbh 9 is one the those movies who really doesnt need a sequel
I love the little old skool tv lol
I love your videos
Just watched it again for the 10th time. One of my favorite don’t know why but it is and I’m 42 lol
The question is, which of the following would it be named?
A. 9 2
B. 9 II
C. 92
D. 10
E. 18
It does sound like Acker's would love to do a sequel, but neither statement actually sound to me like it was anything more than a what if.
am I the only one who randomly blurts out “Go back! To the first room!” ?😢

Ok update i just finished watching it and it was pretty good and its sad that will probably never get the sequel cause i would love to see it
It would be cool too raise funds for a unofficial sequel but I can't do anything like that
PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT "9" THE MOVIE??? (I dont even remember the movie)
You kind of remind me of Marcus from The Bear.
I love the movie I was just disappointed that Coheed & Cambria music was nowhere since they advertised the movie using their music and the whole device looks like it takes massive inspiration from Coheeds "keywork" design.

Its a bunch of ragdolls in a post apocalyptic world its not that deep 😭
You know that the souls of the stichpunks who died being used to revitalise the earth was without their knowledge or consent, right?
I never understood this movie.
Explain why? If you don't like it, that's fine. I'm just really curious.
@PoochieWooch well for one I was like 10 yrs old when it came out secondly I don't remember there being any dialouge in the movie.
That's it ?
My first time, seeing this movie. Not gonna lie, it’s kinda.. meh. For me. (Don’t hate me, plz.)
No i completely agree
my childhood trauma😭
A 9 sequel isn't what I hope for it's what I'm dreading. I love this movie and its characters... but that's exactly why I don't want one, for their sake. These characters have suffered enough, and the ending did them so dirty.
No, they just want to recycle the same crap over and over again. We dont need a sequel we have spider man revolution reloaded 12
Man, I love this movie so much. This deserves all praise it's so underrated! 🩷
