I love Fungie. I had the pleasure of taking my children to see him many years ago and what a great time we had! So nice to see a dolphin in its own environment having fun :-) thankyou for sharing
Fungie is not in the least of all displaced.... but a totally free dolphin in the open mouth of Dingle Harbour which leads into the open Ocean.... and he loves catching his own food.... and he has a choise from Salmon, Mackerel, Ballin Wras, Rocklings, Bas, Flounder, Pollack, Squid amongt others.... So NO ONE will feed him simple for the fact he would not even accept is for he is wild and FREE!.
Free in the wild. No no one should feed him and mess with nature, Fungie gets his own food thank you very much. He captures the essence of dolphins: fun and free. Great footage.
Like ourselves, some dolphins prefer to live alone. It can be difficult as dolphin often hunt communally. But dolphins like Fungi prove it can be done. Rock on, old man! (He's getting pretty old for a dolphin!)
@116646346945004209403 Well Fungie is now somewhere around 40 (2018).. and their normal life expectansy is between 40 and 50 years but there are male bottlenoses known who became 56, 57 and females even 63 64.... There is still a lot of live in Fungie.... although he has become more and more gentle over the past years... It is simular to humans.. some make it up to over a hundred years... others don't even reach half of those years... We have to take it day by day and simply appreciate him and enjoy it. Age is nothing but a number :)
Jeannine Masset Rudi Schamhart My son and I saw him about 10 years ago. It absolutely warmed my heart to see this video and to learn he's still delighting the crowds. He must do pretty well there in the bay. God bless
It is not weird at all. There are many solitary bottlenose dolphins known in the world. We have the female Dusty who lives near Doolin/ Faranfore,/Aran Islands.. and there is now Chlet in Cork. We also had Venus and Dony. And that is alone in Ireland..... Many more are knows over the world. Not all dolphins prefer to live in pods. And very often we get small pods in the bay of only 2 or 3 dolphins.....

Fungie is always around. He lives in the mouth of Dingle Harbour since the end of 1983. Boatstrips go out to see him al year round :)
