Yeah, the whole story came off like your character was a cross between Stone Cold Steve Austin and DX, but with an introduction ironically similar to Santino Morella. One of my favorite storylines in a WWE game.
Buzz and Jacob were so overpushed... winning 3 on 1 handicap matches and sometimes even needing 4 or 5 people against them to lose, or cheating or outside interference. Remember how everyone criticized Roman Reigns's booking in 2015 ? Guess that doesn't bother you that much when you're the one being pushed to the stars
To be honest, when playing through RtWM on WWE 12, it is abysmal with all of those backstage brawls and handicap matches, but watching all the cutscenes like a movie? I wholeheartedly think WWE 12 has the best storyline in all the games.

Tre and Red in concept are great characters, y'know, two school friends working towards a common dream: a succesful WWE career, but it was executed with the precision of Homer Simpson's makeup shotgun. Yes, I stole the joke from redlettermedia.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that one of the good aspects of the 2020 career mode was that we followed those two since their high school days.
Oh that honestly is why it's garbage is because they dropped the ball hard in something that made the story more unique than any other one. The high school segment could have been great seeing as plenty start training when they're in high school or of high school age, and plenty indie shows have had shows at high schools. But instead? We get an unbearable interaction with our "bully" (honestly wish she was Red), a dumb and jarring "fantasy" match, and not much else honestly.
Red and Tre actually felt like good characters up until they made the NXT roster... except that afterwards, they forgot to make Tre any _good_ in the ring afterwards, and they made Red retroactively _horrible_ but _outside_ the ring.

Man SvR 2009 was my first wwe game and my intro to wwe as a whole, never watched it before just picked it up at Walmart and asked my mom for it and my world changed, that John Cena Road to Wrestlemania sequence was so dope, playing at the tribute of the troops and having Tony knock out MVP. Road to Wrestlemania was the best part of the WWE games and I hated the later WWE games for not having it. I still play 2009-2011 to this day ever now and then, and I’ll be trying out ‘07 and ‘08 soon when I buy them Side note, my only complaint ab RtW with the created character was when they make you wrestle as a whole different premade character for a good chunk of your RtW
These are great mentions especially Jacob Cass. There’s one unique honorable mention, WrestleMania XIX. In the Revenge Mode, we get see to see you selected existing Star fight against a bunch of security guards, agents, bikers, and most importantly, the bosses that you in fact get to unlock as playable fighters. There were at least 30 of them with unique gimmicks with being higher up agents, a football player, boxer, ninjas, martial artists, etc.
I have a lot of fond memories of 2k20’s career mode tbh, just cuz me and my brother would play it ever night to see how hilariously bad the cutscenes and bugs were, also I was in high school when that game came out and now I’m an adult with a full time job, now I feel old

The only thing I hated about the Jacob Cass story is that it completely changed the name and moveset of your CAW, which i spent precious time at the age of 13 making... smh
I miss the storyline modes with voiced, existing wrestlers and unvoiced CAWs. 2K22's story has its moments, but I don't like that there's exactly one voice for male CAWs and that it sounds like it belongs to a young, vaguely-Hispanic cruiserweight fresh out of an American college. Whether my CAW be a Japanese or Mexican wrestler, a 6'8" black football player or a middle-aged white MMA fighter from Halifax Nova Scotia, they all sound like the same kid.
I will accept that Red was the worst, but Tre was a gem and the only consistent positive throughout that train wreck of I story. I won't stand this slander.

To be honest, I did enjoy how Buzz was written, but now how he was booked as this invincible almost inhuman force that requires 3 or more people to take him down, with interference or cheating all the time. In this way, I feel like Tre and red paid their dues way more than Buzz did. Especially Tre who had the entire story to prove himself to the world, all the while trying to accomplish his own goals, as weird as they may be. Tre and red were also complementary, being each other's voice of reason when the other was acting irrational or didn't know what to do. For example, with red and Mickie James, or when Brooklyn "betrayed" Tre to help Samoa Joe get the WWE Championship, sorry for the spoilers. They were still very much independent though, even if they were a package deal. They had their own objectives, red was way more oriented on championships and competition while Tre was focused on the entertainment side, and on creating memorable moments, and also finding his parents. All in all, that makes them feel real. They struggle, they work their way up the ladder and it's not always easy for them unlike Buzz who wins it all in a month, because he's Vince's boy. Even roman reigns in 2015 wasn't booked as strong as Buzz in his game

Lol, someone clearly never saw the amount of detail people put into women wrestlers they create as much as men. In reality, it's just simply because the game strips the feeling of them being your characters rising to the top. Picture it like this, let's say I create a bad ass woman and a monster like male character. Instead of being able to do that, they will instead be exactly like Tre and Red no matter what you created them like. Red will always be awesome and best for business while Tre is a goofball who gets fluke championship victories. Instead of it feeling like your characters are in high school and you choose how they were like with branching dialogue, you can only be like what you see in the beginning every time. That's immersion breaking on so many levels, why offer up something with so much potential then make it so linear that it feels like the Gilmore Girls or Degrassi of wrestling stories? All in all, to think it has to do with women characters ignores that this is a time period where people actually like the women's division again. Everything isn't that black and white, there are gray areas where maybe your own personal enjoyment is ignoring the objective problem with the way the story is done.

Tre and red were also complementary, being each other's voice of reason when the other was acting irrational or didn't know what to do. For example, with red and Mickie James, or when Brooklyn "betrayed" Tre to help Samoa Joe get the WWE Championship, sorry for the spoilers.
They were still very much independent though, even if they were a package deal. They had their own objectives, red was way more oriented on championships and competition while Tre was focused on the entertainment side, and on creating memorable moments, and also finding his parents.
All in all, that makes them feel real. They struggle, they work their way up the ladder and it's not always easy for them unlike Buzz who wins it all in a month, because he's Vince's boy. Even roman reigns in 2015 wasn't booked as strong as Buzz in his game
based as fuck. i personally wasn’t a fan of red, but tre was fucking hilarious idc and his character actually developed from a guy who only cared about the entertaining aspects of wrestling, to actually wanting to prove himself and step up to strowman, joe etc. if tre was an actual wrestler, he’s be over as fuck

not sure why so many put down the 2k20 story yes the game was a mess glitch wise, but the actual my rise story was in my opinion one of the best i played through

Lol, someone clearly never saw the amount of detail people put into women wrestlers they create as much as men.
In reality, it's just simply because the game strips the feeling of them being your characters rising to the top. Picture it like this, let's say I create a bad ass woman and a monster like male character. Instead of being able to do that, they will instead be exactly like Tre and Red no matter what you created them like. Red will always be awesome and best for business while Tre is a goofball who gets fluke championship victories. Instead of it feeling like your characters are in high school and you choose how they were like with branching dialogue, you can only be like what you see in the beginning every time. That's immersion breaking on so many levels, why offer up something with so much potential then make it so linear that it feels like the Gilmore Girls or Degrassi of wrestling stories?
All in all, to think it has to do with women characters ignores that this is a time period where people actually like the women's division again. Everything isn't that black and white, there are gray areas where maybe your own personal enjoyment is ignoring the objective problem with the way the story is done.
