- Eric Schweig is a Canadian-born Inuit actor, who may be best known for his work in the 1992 film, The Last of The Mohicans. He was born Ray Dean Thrasher, in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Of mixed descent: Inuit, German, Portuguese, and Senegalese, Schweig and all six of his siblings were taken from their mother as children and taken into the Canadian foster system, part of the 60s Scoop. He and his siblings were separated and adopted by different families, and Eric himself was adopted by an English-speaking, German-French family.
Eric plays Little Bird Series' role of Asin, the grandfather, and generously shared his story with us for #ComingHome - #WannaIcipusKupi, premiering June 30th on Crave and APTN lumi.
For the past 17 years, Eric has dedicated himself as a frontline street outreach worker, working with unhoused people and people suffering from addiction. “Little Bird is my story. I was adopted and taken at birth,” said Schweig.
“I met my uncle, Willy Thrasher-I saw him on the streets of skid row in Vancouver. My last name was Thrasher, but that’s all I knew. I said, ‘Do you know Margaret Thrasher?’ he said, ‘That’s my sister,’ and I said, ‘That’s my mom.’ I asked where my mom was, and he said, ‘She’s dying in a hospital in Edmonton.” Before Schweig could make it to his mother, she died. His own experience has made playing the role of Asin, the grandfather, significant to him.

Yes, I have to agree. His bone structure is insane. I was absolutely in love with him all through my teens after seeing Last of the Mohicans. He was beautiful.

this is one smart individual- i just saw him in the missing and realized he was in last of the mohicans- the makeup in the missing totally threw me off- crazy upbringing story glad to see he made a name for himself

I think it would be a powerful thing to tell his life story and what it's like for him today. Pretty sure he couldn't do that living in Canada though...

Dieses Leid, diese himmelschreiende Ungerechtigkeit muss mehr in das Bewusstsein der amerikanischen Bevölkerung. Das Land gehört den Indianern, den First Nations.
