Not taking sides for the communist dictatorship in norht korea, but for some background, most "defector run" stations are like "radio free Europe" financed by the US NED (National endowment for democracy), and State department funded US regime change organization that also funds rebel groups and violent "activists" in many countries to destabilize their government.
I encourage everyone to look into similar articles about the NED as "NED, the US-funded org interfering in elections around the globe" same as chinas 50cent commenter army

Hi Lewis and excellent and very enjoyable appraisal of HF stations set up by North Korean defectors/Japan, broadcasting back into the DPRK. Great stuff! 73

I intercepted and forwarded some CW that was meant for somebody traveling to South Korea soon. He lives across the world. When I sent him the recording he said it was indeed addressed to him. But shortwave is both awesome and amazing because you never know what or who you will hear.

Here in the states I've only ever picked up the Voice of Korea broadcasts around 15mhz. Would love to hear those other broadcasts but I don't think I'm in range with the equipment I have.

I thought I was well versed in the oppressive regime of DPRK but the abduction of (Japanese) visitors is a new one to me. Great work starting to highlight the nature of North Korea's dictatorship but I have to wonder, with most of the population starving in favour of financing nuclear weapons, how would they even afford a radio set, and the power to run it? All credit to those operating the services to try to inform those in such a locked down and controlled society. A little RUclips research by viewers may find really harrowing content on the DPRK

the north korean government themselves have radios although they obviously try to limit its distribution, and for the very grand majority of the radios that they have, they are locked to certain frequencies in an attempt to avoid the chance that a citizen tunes the frequency to something that isn't DRPK approved, however as i have heard online apparently it is trivial to unlock these radios to receive any frequency.
that being said, this method is still not preferable, the most practical method i could think of to get unlocked radios in the hands of the average NK citizen would be to balloon drop waterproof, durable handheld li-ion solar powered radio receivers from the south korean border into north korean territory, each unit coming with a simple instructional pamphlet taped to the device telling the user the basics of a radio and how to tune to frequencies.

Jamming has gotten much more sporadic nowadays. Used to be several jammed stations between 5.8 and 6.2 MHz which is between the official DPRK broadcasts on 6.100, 6.140(DRM) & 6.160 among other frequencies. Usually get a good signal from one of them on the Oita Japan SDR

I saw a program talking about people who meet N Koreans at the border and give them USB drives with movies and different stuff. What goes on those will spread far and wide, and it's crucial. They are denied basic science and stuff. You'd want to give them science textbooks, physics textbooks, true history. Perhaps the Bible? And somehow enough human history, so that they see the way the rest of the world does, that humanity is moving towards greater freedom of individuals. And despite many attempts to hold that progress back, it is impossible. How the structure of this grand scheme makes North Korea the pariah it is. I really hope that people putting those drives together are thinking hard about it and not just putting a bunch of stupid movies on there.
