I love using dies as stencils. I just learned a little hack to make the stencils almost permanent. If you take 2 pieces of cardstock and place them together with a piece of printer paper between them. Put it in a laminate pouch and laminate. You come out with 2 separate sheets of laminated cardstock. Then you use that to diecut your new almost permanent. You just need to wipe the laminate side Thanks so much for your creativity.

@@Pebblesmas she uses the laminate side as the top, so wiping off the ink or whatever medium used. It keeps it from cross contamination of colors/materials. And by doing the two at once like that, she's got mirror image stencils. Cool idea, I think. :) Blessings!

Excellent questions! I also am learning to ask myself exactly how many times I expect to use the product-a $50 item can be a better value than a $20 one if it is used 4 times more! Once I decide I really want something, I wait for a while and then wait some more until it goes on sale. Amazing how items lose their appeal in just a few weeks of waiting. Thanks for encouraging us to slow down on buying!

OMG I love your video. I just watched Laurel Beard’s video. I, too, am an impulse buyer. I am a Craft-A-Holic and I need therapy and a sponsor. I am so glad that videos like this are coming out encouraging us NOT to keep buying! I feel like every video I watch, every blog email, Instagram post, I find more stuff I want to have. And I have a craft room and the credit card bills to prove it. I love how you take an item you are tempted to buy and then go into your stash to see if you have something similar that would work. That is an excellent strategy I’m going to try out. Keep these videos coming! And you make beautiful cards by the way.

Yes, I love.making Christmas cards, too. I'm really careful about buying one use dies. I try to find dies that I could use at other times, in other ways, or figure out what I already have that could be used for Chrsitmas cards. I.lean toward the nature dies - deer, birds, trees, snowflakes, greenery, and flowers that would like alright in more Christmasy, or winter colors.

I've already been following these guidelines, for years. 😌
I will use my all over embossing folders before I ever buy, or add a cover plate die to my wishlist. I also have Simon Hurley's stamping foam to pick up just about any texture around me. I can even make up my own with household objects, dies, etc. Besides, I just can't bring myself to pick out all those zillion little pieces that come out of them.
I do ask myself if I can't make something on my own, with what I have, and I won't buy dies if my ScanNCut can cut for me. Already had my basic shapes before I ever thought about getting my sweet machine.😊
A foiling pen is something else I can live without. I'll just cover cardstock with shiny gold vinyl, and cut out a design on my ScanNCut, or with a die on my Cuttlebug. I have a heat press I don't use enough (a gift), and a heat tool that my sister in law said I really should get for embossing. It is used more working with my husband on our vehicles/camper than in my craft space.🤫😏

Thanks for sharing your point of view. I think your questions are really helpful. I’m trying to figure out what I love doing the most, which isn’t necessarily what I love to look at on IG or YT. I get a lot of great ideas from your videos, but I love using patterned paper, even though I could make my own with ink, stencils and stamps like you do. So I have to be careful not to run out and buy all the stencils and tools you use. I’m far more likely to reach for patterned paper instead and that’s OK, as long as I know that about myself. Your question about the difference it will make for the recipient was very important. I donate most of my cards so the more I can make, the more people get a happy greeting. They don’t care if I use patterned paper, foil, or heat embossing. It’s only important that I stay motivated and satisfied with my hobby. Thanks!

Purchasing? Oh boy did I screw up! Last year I made a huge push to buy much needed supplies. Really. I had no valentines day, no Halloween, no floral bouquets, pastes. Stencils, etc. I had not added much of anything to what I had back in 2003 when I started. Well, I’ve got a ton now but since I don’t have much time to make cards, I didn’t even realize what I liked. I just bought! I have stuff I’ll likely never use, and not the things I’m realizing I like now! Major mistake!!!! It’s extra difficult when you don’t have enough time to get a feel for what you like. I’m just now working on using stencils !!! It’s definitely overwhelming at times. I love your minimalist look and you do a lot of geometric shapes. The one thing I’m going to try to buy this year is CP inks! Even if it’s one bundle at a time!

Some great tips there Ardyth. I have been cutting back on craft spending and these tips help me to look at what I have in different ways. I have been saving some tempting new release craft items and card examples in a folder on Pinterest that I call craft shopping. I scrapbook as well as make cards so I have a wee pattern paper addiction. And cardstock. I had to get rid of a bunch of 8.5x11 cardstock because I had gotten to the point where I had no space. I have been doing a space reorganization - finally got proper, useable shelving units - and I have zones... so each type of item is only allotted so much space.
I also have a thing for nature stamps - specifically images that may be labelled as more 'masculine' like trees, animals, etc.

Well done! My eyes pop when I see masculine products! It's kind of my jam to make masculine cards so when I see word dies or stamps, or hunting/fishing/boating/hiking-type stamps or dies, or military stamps/dies, or funky male oriented stamps or dies... they leap into my cart before I can even think! It happened to me for the Memorial Day weekend sales too! But I've resisted them... I've got to much stuff as is and can't hold anymore in my art room!

LOVED this video and also loved the other two ladies advice too! Just had to have the latest die shown on TV...until the price of that ONE die set went over $100! (I learned to make cards watching European TV) Luckily for me they turned OFF their American channels and I could not get them on my iPad. Wow! What a wakeup call...not only am I saving a LOT of money I HAVE to use what I have! I could not believe how much money I had spent just on dies...that I have yet to use! I will definitely be using your tips on using the same die many different ways (although in my case, it will take the rest of my life to use those I have!)

    Love all of your cards.💕
I have problems with dies, mixed media products, stamps and stencils.
I've managed to stop buying paper pads as I would buy 2 of the same. I'm now learning, do I really need that and what else can I use it for. I'm looking at things differently and making sure I can use something for more than one occasion. Like I purchased that same stamp of Simon Hurley's as you showed, due to price point and I could see me using it for multiple ideas. Cover plates are way too expensive.
So my new thing I'm attempting is:
I want something, do I really want it, sleep on it for a couple of days and see if I still want it. Trying to stop my compulsive buying.
There's a difference between wanting and needing.
I hope this helps someone else 🙏
