Remnote needs to be OPEN SOURCE - this act alone will allow it to grow and improve dramatically, and also bring the user base who are worried future-wise what will happen to their data

I think RemNote is an awesome project, but I would like an option that allowed you to revise a certain document in the order you wrote it, because for me its a bit messy to revise my flashcards in a random order. It would be better to understand some contents of my studies if I could choose the order to revise the flashcards. Great app!!👍🏻👍🏻

I think that you're using flashcards 'wrongly'.
My tip for you: flashcards is better used for RETAINING, not for LEARNING from scratch.
If you already studied some concept, it won't matter the order of reviewing. If the order of reviewing are an issue, so you're using flashcards wrongly, you're trying to LEARN with the flashcards.
So, for learning, you see the lecture, read the book and make a little abstract/summary.
Then, after you understanding the concepts you've studied, you create some flashcards to help you to RETAIN the information in long-term.
So, the act of reviewing an flashcards is to you make sure you know the information and you are retaining it. So, in this case, it doesn't matter the order you are reviewing them.
Another tip: Create a mind map which shows exactly where this flashcard is in the big-picture. It's like an MAP.
      The flashcard are a house
And the mindmap are the MAP of the streets showing where is this specific house.

As far as I'm concerned, there is just so much features, some of which that don't apply to me. The things that matter to me are notes and flashcards. Thus, I absolutely think that making notes + flashcards in the EXACT same app, in other words my notes are also my flashcards, is really life-changing. I really wish I knew about this during my undergrad. I graduated a year ago, but now I am doing a different program in Uni and hope to use this program to cater to my needs (which is notetaking and flashcards).

    • @NathanaelFarley

I'd love a discussion for better flashcards. My main reasons for using Anki over other systems is: Open Source (so even if the developer stops working on it/company goes bust I don't lose my cards); good mobile apps (most of my reviews are away from the computer)
I'm a programmer by trade and play a lot of RPGs, both of which require large amounts of memorisation. If I could memorize that stuff in a more connected way, I would be very interested!
(At the moment I work hard to make sure my Anki cards will trigger a memory in the right place at the right time, but if Remnote could do that faster, that'd be awesome)

Maybe I just didn't look that deep into it and these features already exist.
So it would be cool if you could change the order new cards appear and it would be extremely useful if you could review a whole material or lecture note as one cloze card. That would be esential for subjects where chronological order matters.
It is a great idea, I just think it needs more features to be on par with Anki.

okay I just spent 20 mn going through remnotes and studying a bit, familiarizing myself with the app and it'sso promising.
I'm finding a solution to every problem and limitations I encountered on OneNote and paper. Usually, I took my notes (in class) one OneNote and then work at home, summarizing on paper what I had and organizing ideas with bullet points, sub-bullet points, sub-sub-bullet points, etc. RemNote is allowing me to do it in a much clearer way and to reorganize ideas along with my understanding. I love how flexible it is, I love that I have the tools to express the organization in my mind, I love to be able to create flashcards in the same place as my notes. Before, I worked on many mediums : OneNote, paper, flashcards app, PDFs. And now I feel like I will be able to connect much more ideas in one place, and have hold of an information by looking for it in an intuitive system (instead of having to remember where I wrote down this exact information).
It seems to be the perfect mix between Notion, OneNote and Ankiapp. I have no doubt that RemNote will live up to my expectations.

2:30, free, but NOT open source, which is an important point. Hear me out... In Anki, all the code is open source. All the cards are 100% yours. The platform is 100% yours. On Remnote however... the ownership of the software and by extension cards are not 100% yours. What happens to your cards after your subscription abruptly ends? Do the fruits of all your blood sweat and tears disappear? What's stopping them from doing whatever they want with your cards? What's stopping them from disappearing into the wilderness? Of course your choice is yours, but I'm very opposed to any *closed source* project cuz I want total control and ownership of the software

I don't think this is the right place to say this, but in case you read this, please make it so you can add handwritten flashcards, for stem students. I would really love to be able to save formulas on flashcards but I can't.

I took your advice and used RemNote for the past two weeks. I realized now that is incredibly frustrating because it underlines in red the most basic medical terms that are spelled correctly. It like it does not know English or something. Also the flashcards only allow you to answer in one direction and not flip them around, which is the most basic feature any study website should have

Remnote not available on iPadOS ...hope it’ll be available for long time like 10 years minimum , coz Anki promise to do that, Anki developer said if anything happens to him then Anki will go open source and yes no additional charge even after you get huge downloaders ,coz people tends to change from free to subscription once they r popular , one time payment is good but not subscription policy , if remnote fits into this criteria , then yes it’s competitor to Anki .

If you want organization and hierarchical organization, just use notion with Anki. This is just an app that is CLOSED SOURCING and is complicated. This is silliness.
Can't say i didn't try it but it's overly complicated and once you figure it out, the textbox with the flash cards is too small. Just stick with Anki

Remnote was created to be more time efficient than using Notion + Anki workflow. I did it before. Mike and Matty did it before (they have a video talking about it). Remnote is way faster. That's why I'm using it. (I use Anki since 2015). They have a clear privacy policy. There is an option to make the text box bigger if you want but I think is better than having to read from one side of the screen to the other like a lot of people do. (I've created on anki a CSS to make a small textbox like a real flashcard with random bold, italic, underline colors)

Hey Matty even I use RemNote and it has helped me excel a lot. My grades have been improving since I started using it but sometimes it becomes a little confusing on the variety that RemNote provides with all the tags and search portals and all that kind of stuff. So it would be great if the RemNote team made a detailed tutorial series right from the roots of this study tool to the highest you can get from it. It would be helpful for me and most of the Rem community.

One of the major reasons, I personally am using Remnote over Anki is due to the fact on apple products Anki cost $25. Which for a struggling college student, may be worth it because of how one uses it. But at the end of the day its still twentay five dolla 😂. So why pay when you have something that is more friendly for the user and its FREEEEEEE for apple products. 😭👌😂
