My 2010. Gear up is just about to turn the odometer back to zero! 100,000 Kms. When that happens I plan on riding naked through my town. Starting a go- fund - me account for the bail money! ;-) Miles of smiles!!!
Thanks for the update! I just purchased a 2021 Gear Up in Sahara from Nashville Motorcycle Repair (one week ago today) and am loving it! Have been watching many of your videos in recent days to beef up my knowledge and they are very helpful.
Thanks David, we have just bought a 22 GU and have been watching your how to vids, most excellent, we are starting a 1 year plus trip around Oz, cheers Andi
I've wanted a Ural since I was a kid and I'm finally in a position to buy one. I may still buy one, one day, but it's disappointing to hear that the bike essentially has known cooling issues due to emissions required design changes. I guess I've waited 25 years, I can wait until they are able to be both new and able to take any grade fuel without a 20 minute cooldown. That makes the UDF a whole different experience.
One improvement that is really needed is the use of wire spoked tubeless rims so that tubeless tyres can be used. Apart from that the combo is excellent 👌
I have a Ural sidecar mounted to a 2002 BMW R1150GSA. I spent almost three years on this rig while living in South America. Motor needs a rebuild, but I hope to be back on the road soon!
in my country the vehicle uses the driver's side on the right, the Ural sidecar must be moved to the left so that Ural motorbike is not with 2WD specs, I hope the next production of the gearbox and shaft of the Ural motorbike can be easily changed according to the needs of the country of the touring location, and 2WD can function wherever the right or left sidecar position
Very well presented with excellent photography.. But I really think one of the updates should have been an oil cooler. Moderate road speeds with different tyres and an oil cooler might have been a better direction. Especially the CT. Haven't seen the full range yet though.
Ɓut if I had a new Ural I think I'd put on a free flowing exhaust back down below or out the left side and probably put 2 base gaskets in to drop the compression just . Hoping to keep the temps down a bit and ease up on the crank assembly that runs on a splash system. If there was a way to run an oil cooler on any vintage Ural I'd do that too.
My Ural 2014 T model also runs much better on 98 Octane Fuel here in Australia than it does on Standard 90! Maybe the extra finning on the cylinder head and increased oil capacity / redesigned oil pan and pickup from 2019 on will help keeping the temperature under control now the compression has increased. Mandating 98 is a backward step given where these are used and it being not available but unavoidable because of emissions - I think everyone understands this though and you just have to adapt (carry Octane booster?). The knobby tyres are a pain for road use - you should have the option of ordering the Heidenau road tyres they have on the CT in a 19 rather than 18 size for these if you ride it more on the road, it would ride much smoother with less road noise.
What do you think about what ChangJiang is doing nowdays? I like the E5 version with watercooled engine, more HP, more reliable, cbs brake... only contra is the chain, sure I preffer the cardan, but the E5 CJ bikes looks awesome.
Hey David! The 2022’s look really great! That beefed up forged swing arm is a great idea! Was wondering, does the 2022 gear up come with the 19” wheels? Also can you get the round lights, the single bicycle seat, the foot boxes, full-size windshield faring on the 2022 model?
I just got a 2021 GU, but I LOVE the new center stand. Will it fit the "old" 2-2 exhaust? If so, will it be sold separately like some of the other upgrades?
@@BikerMage I could have used one a few weeks ago. My wife and I were at Barber for the Vintage Motorcycle Wknd. The sidecar tire went flat and needed to put on the spare. We were at the cabin in what the locals seemed to refer as the mountains. Should have had a scissor jack with me; instead, I used the gas tank to prop up the sidecar. Maybe not the safest route but it worked...
I’d like to get one with all drum brakes. To me ural has changed a lot in the last 10 to 15 years. I want a bike I can ride everyday as my only transportation and the ural makes that possible.
About the "more heat" thing maby the next advance on that engine is to increase oil capacity up to 4 litres and with one -or two- strong oil pums along with oil cooler.
Do the Urals have a heel/toe shifter? Due to an injury, I can no longer lift my left foot up. (drop foot) and have sold all of my bikes except for a Harley with heel/toe shifter and my 1965 Triumph which has right foot shift.
I rode my 2021 gear up during a 40 degree Celsius heat wave almost every day this summer with no mechanical issues? A lot of the time was at relatively high speed but I did allow for a 20 minute cool down at fuel stops.
Glad to see the incremental improvements to the rig, but unfortunately it seems like the price is outpacing the improvements. They just gotta give up on that engine already and get with the times, that design is quickly approaching 100 years old. Perhaps license something from BMW...again. But who says it even needs to be a boxer? A motor similar to what's in the honda NC750x would be an improvement in every way - better power, better torque, better efficiency, better packaging with a p-twin, more reliable. That along with a 5+R transmission and an earls fork (pivot point behind the front wheel) would be perfect. Of course then the bike would be $40k I imagine.
Been riding bikes for 32yrs..I have given up my 1000cc+ road/adv bikes and bought a new 2021 Himalayan in June....but need to take my 2 dogs with me when i go for a ride and was thinking about putting a deposit down on the 2022 Ural...Hopefully the extra engine heat won't bother me in the UK, but it has put me off a bit, i don't want to do it, but maybe better to buy a RE 650 and get a side car fitted to it..no offence...had my heart set on a Ural, but killing the engine by it getting too hot, using it in general riding scares me for the £13,000+ i would have to pay..too much too lose tbh 😒
What are used Urals selling for....I want nothing to do with fuel injection or other unnecessary crap on my bike....I ride a KLR650 now and I can work on it.....Computers and injection ....not so much
So it takes less gear and harder to find, more expensive fuel? This is, therefore, a worse long distance traveler? Sounds like a bunch of reasons to buy an older model :(

Im looking for a side cart motorcycle
But can the cart be taken off.
I noticed there is no right side turn signals on the bike?
David, Thanks for all the great videos. I've been binge watching and I'm getting very close to putting a deposit down for a '22 Gear Up

YES! Tire plug kit w/ pump is standard on my current bike. Why not on the Urals as well?
Love the videos David does! The info is great! Keep up the good work!
This Ural bike seems to be unstoppable!!!
Cheers for the update David. Living in Australia's heat is there any plans to install oil cooler units for the warmer countries??

First time I wanted to buy a brand new bike , ive been looking into these for a while now and im gonna ditch my HD and get one of these
so many good changes!
How long until we get NikaSil lined jugs to deal with the heat? IMHO, the last step away from these things being PERFECT!
I don't know why it took me so long to find this video. I thought I'd seen them all.
such fun , now I retired, I can afford one and have the time to enjoy this combo
Great video! Thanks

I got a new Royal Enfield Himalayan. However would love to get a Ural some day also.
I have a Ural but have been intrigued for a good bit with the Himalayan. The price point seems really right and it appears to be a fun do it all bike

Thank you so much! Is a good review indeed!
Thanks for the great news on changes, 2022 will be the year I buy mine. Keep up the vids. Cheers mate.
I'm hoping to scoop one up soon maybe by next year
Looks as rugged and robust as previous bikes. Good Presentation 😎👍
Great product ever seen
Well done David.😄
As always, excellent job.

How much of this is a bolt on upgrade to a 2020 model? like the center stand, can i just buy it and bolt it on? swing arm and rear brake setup?

Good question. I have a 2020 Gear Up and it really takes a lot to get it on the centerstand.
@@ryankosztya3616 I ended up pulling the scissor jack out of the car I don't drive anymore and throwing it in the trunk.

Hi,

Can the new pistons and new rear brake can be installed in a 2019 model ?

David, when is Ural going to launch in India. Or more precisely, will it EVER launch in India?????
David great video! Is there anyone looking at replacing the engine with water-cool design or new air design?
I’d like to get one with all drum brakes. To me ural has changed a lot in the last 10 to 15 years. I want a bike I can ride everyday as my only transportation and the ural makes that possible.

SWEET! Still waiting for a 5 speed transmission though, preferably that will retrofit to my 2017 Gen 2 EFI Retro.
Does the company still lets you paint in any color you want--for an extra fee--like, if I wanted bright red? Will they do that?
Can tractor seats still be put on instead of bench seats?
Yes
Thank you
It was a great and informative video !!
Really nice upgrades!
Читая коменты понимаю , что ураловоды в США и Австралии действительно очень любят эту машину 😁👈
Are these changes universal to the Sahara model as well?
Super motocykl.
These things get better every year, but I'm still waiting for 5 forward gears, plus reverse, of course.
Dave love the update I have a 2020 will that swing arm adapt to my bike
Price is ridiculous.
Like putting AC in a VW beetle and charging 65k for the privilege 😢
Would a oil cooler help significantly if your traveling in a desert climate?

Can you install a carb in these? He said you could do a carb tune, how would you do that?
I love my 2012 but what are you doing about all the defective wheel rims that keep cracking and splitting?
