I don't think you meant this from a racist perspective but what exactly is acting white or black anyways? How does one go about acting like a skin color? There are many different types of white and black folks in the world because we're not a hive mind and skin color doesn't effect personality. I've always found it stupid when people say things like "that white guy is acting black" or "that black guy is acting white". You don't have to be a specific color to embrace a culture.

Black and Mild, Tampa Nuggets, Swisher Sweets, White Owl were all popular with white cigar smokers after the embargo on Cuban cigars because there weren't many alternatives with quality tobacco. After the 80s, when there was quality tobacco being grown in enough quantities in the US and Central America, quality cigars emerged back on the US market at an affordable price. English brands from Cuba had been available, but extremely expensive at the time. The price of the cheap low quality cigars fell with a drop in demand, so a new market was needed. In the mid 80s Dominicans and Jamaicans and Cubans in NYC began using the wrapper leaves for cigars, the whole leaf ready to roll, not cut from a cigar, to roll blunts. That's where it started being popularized. It went to NYC from Florida, where Cubans working in cigar factories in Tampa had access to the wrapper leaves. Once it became popular with Latin culture, the East Coast hip-hop and rap culture started emulating the latinos by buying the cheap, 5 pack cigars and using them since they didn't have access to the wrapper leaves. The cross-over between the two cultures happened through gangs and then spread to rap and hip-hop. Very soon afterward, those brands which had been around for 50 to 100 years, began marketing to black consumers and were paying to have their brands associated with rap and hip-hop. Then they further developed their compatibility with pot culture through the introduction of a myriad of flavors. Those brands, as I said, had been around in various forms for as much as 120 years by 1988. Their popularity surged after the Cuban embargo but only became predominately associated with black consumers after the wrapper leaf blunt migrated to NYC from Tampa among Latinos and Jamaicans.
