Poor President McKinley. Twice a victim; first from assassins bullets, second from inadequate medical care. He was apparently one of the most beloved Presidents in US history. RIP Sir.
@@stevevalley2784 However, Destiny brought the USA one of the Greatest Americans of all time to become the youngest-ever President, Theodore Roosevelt, the MOST POPULAR AND BELOVED MAN OF HIS TIME.
Beautiful views!! , lovely parks !! McKinley was a truly honored President. Its time to take another road trip. I want to see the huge clock too. Thank you so much for taking Us along. I so enjoyed it ✌️🙏🌹
Lived in Canton as a kid. Me and my cousins used to play in the creek to the right of the monument. Been there many times. Very cool place. I also lived very close to Thomas Edison's birthplace in Milan, Oh. I was a lucky kid.
It’s breathtaking! Thank you for taking your time inside so that I could read everything! My heart aches for Mrs McKinley to lose both her children then her husband so senselessly! On a different note I couldn’t help but think of the soldiers who had to carry the caskets up all those steps! Wow! Look forward to the next video! Be safe!
I live about 2 hours from Akron/Canton, but I've never visited the McKinley memorial. Again, as I have commented on your other videos, I have learned so much. I a m continually impressed with your posts. Your production and final presentations rival ANY network or Hollywood offerings! Thanks and God bless you for your hard work and your thirst for knowledge and your desire to share this with us
A very scenic trip I must say. The fort was beautiful. Those views were awesome. I’m not really sure what to make of the giant clock. McKinley's crypt is quite grand. I had seen it before. Thanks for another great video!
Next time in Parkersburg take the boat ride to Blennerhassett Island. Plenty of historical buildings to explore, there's a covered wagon ride around the island, and tons of history to learn
What an amazing video!! Really loving this series! I’ve lived in Ohio all my life but I have yet to make it to that destination. Love taking road trips! That Fort Boreman looks like an awesome place to visit too! Especially those overlooks. Beautiful!!
I was born and raised in Canton Ohio.My Grandparents are buried in this cemetery. My grandmother was born in 1899, and she told me she remembered soldiers standing guard over President McKinley holding grave. I also have great grandparents there and many other family members buried in this cemetery. I’ve been to many Easter sunrise services in front of this monument.
I've been there. If you don't or can't do the stairs, there are two alternate entrances. One is an elevator that you can take from the adjoining building. The other one is from the parking lot in the back. The most touching thing to me was the reburial of his two young daughters. It is like walking into a shrine, a place of devotion.
That whole trip was wonderful. And I didn't even have to leave my house 😂 Poor McKinley. Getting shot and very bad medical care. Garfield too. Just a shame. Thanks Chris 😊
I like how the American Eagles stand watch over them both from niches at the base of the dome. What an unlucky couple they were, not only separated by an assassin, but to lose their two children as infants may have been a portent for the bigger tragedy to come. Poor Ida must have been left wondering what on earth she had done to deserve all these tragedies. 😢
Did you recognise the pattern of the stars above the words "William McKinley Library and Museum"? It is the Big Dipper/Plough constellation, easily observable in northern hemisphere night skies. So now, I'm intrigued! What significance has this particular constellation to do with William McKinley, please, Whittdocs? I'm in the UK 🇬🇧, and would be indebted to you, for a reply! 😊
I’m going to give you a reply. But unfortunately I don’t have any insight as to why that constellation is in there. I’m impressed that you noticed it, because I’m going to be honest. I didn’t notice it.
QUESTION! I know it’s a historic monument so they can’t change anything but was wondering if there are ramps of some sort for people in wheelchairs like me!
Thanks for another great video. Wish you could have read the plaques out loud. I’m legally blind and can no longer read them in a video. I’ve heard it said, “It’s not the number of years in life. It’s the life in your years.”
From the UK: Wow! All that for him! It makes Kennedy's grave look like that of a pauper, in comparison Why one assassinated president's resting place of such breadth (LENGTH!) and grandeur should make that of another assassinated president look so mean and shabby, beggars belief. Come on, America 🇺🇸 Let not Kennedy fade into such obscurity! Something rightly fitting for an anniversary of his death: 2033, say. Don't you think that this historic man, who laid the foundations for man's feet to stand on the surface of the moon, saw off the Cuban Crisis, amongst other things, and died serving his nation, deserves better? How shocked is the tourist, gazing down at a grubby slab and a small, flickering Eternal Flame, yet looking up and long at McKinley's splendid monument? 😢 What say you, Whittdocs? 😊
I would love for all of the great leaders of our country to have grand final resting places. I just think it does better to keep history alive and really drive the point home that this person made a difference.
@Whittdocs Indeed! And as a totally unbiased Brit, I believe that Kennedy made a difference in many areas. He was also a vibrant, young President; a change from all his more mature predecessors. I was 8 when he was assassinated. A genuine question: why do you think that there has never been a clamour to transfer his remains to a more fitting resting place? Or is the overall feeling that he is IN the resting place he deserves 🤔
@angietunstall2555 Well, he’s buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Arlington is considered The United States most hallowed grounds. So, I think the cemetery that he’s in is also part of the lore of his final resting place. While he may not have an extravagant marker, the cemetery itself is considered one of the highest honors that one can achieve. And if you visit there, there’s an entire walkway surrounding the grave with Kennedys quotes etched. You can also see the US Capitol from his grave.
@@Whittdocs An update then? I know he would feel honoured to lie amongst men who gave their lives for America 🇺🇸 but a marker a little more splendid, as he was the Commander of commanders; an aide de camp of God?
Just down the road from me (Akron OH). Fun Presidential final resting place site of Ohio, of the five Presidents are buried in Ohio, four died in office.
@@Whittdocs That would be my home county. lol I have lived within 40 miles of Cincinnati including inside the city limits, for most of my 60 years. great video, I was taken aback by this seemingly way over-the-top monument of a president I have barely heard of, but then I did my homework
I think the shocking nature of his passing also let to this outpouring. I’m looking forward to learning more about McKinley.

I stand corrected. The elevator is located at the bottom of the stairs. There is a back entrance.
