But yeah the founding fathers were assholes when talking about their pasts but what can you do. We want a symbol of freedom and military excellence, we get a man that enslaved humans and did guerilla tactics (seen as cheap and bad, strategically, at the time)

The massive body of work from these voices actors, animators and storytellers is easily on par with the greatest tv comedies of our time. Such great writing, such great comedic timing. Shout out to the editors. It all came together for these distinctly loveable and highly memorable characters. I sincerely thank all parties involve for consistently making me laugh!

His mouth is weird. It seems to be a speaker, but also opens up, and sometimes the squares are retractable, but they also move like lips.
Your phone or Alexa device can speak to you and make sound while covered, buried, or in a pocket. So I mean Bender is a machine, an Artificial Intelligence. I would assume the mouth is mostly aesthetic to give him a humanoid appearance. Although he does use that mouth to drink beer/liquor, whatever purpose drinking serves for a robot. Functionally he probably doesn't even need a mouth.
