Theory to explore: Could bravery/courage be a way to fight against the monsters? First, Randall is in his bus and straight up tells the creatures he isn't scared of them basically getting up in their faces behind the glass then the creatures walk away. Then when Boyd kills Smiley, it was his courageous act to stand up against Smiley that could gave been a factor in it's death.

Great review and theories. I was frustrated with the opening episode but have since realized it was really really good. I think all of the coverage kind of overloaded me with expectations and of course the way streaming is these days only getting one episode was a bit of a bummer. Anyway, really looking forward to episode 2. I believe Boyd will end up being on his own which will be good for him and good for the rest(for a little bit) they need to get aggressive. Also, I don’t think Tabitha is getting back into town(at least not this season) but the police officer from Camden will and obviously this will verify that she got out, etc, etc… will start a chain of thinking that they can escape and of course get more aggressive about it

It's not much of a monster. It's more of a ghost. A nightmare.
First, Elgin asked FATIMA if there was a body of water around - not Sarah.
Fatima brought Elgin to the Brundels pond- a pond Fatima showed reluctance going into back in season one.
I think it's the ghost of NADIA- the woman that Fatima told Elgin about at the Brundels.
Fatima and Nadia were friends and Nadia was obsessed about the mysteries of Fromville.
I think she drowned at the Brundels.
I also think Fatima inherited Nadia's kimonos and wears them in honor of her friend.
    I don't think it's a "monster" at all.

Holy moley what if the twist of this show is that it is some sort of live action version of the Anime Gantz

This is exactly what the show is. Without the cyberpunk.

I can't quite reconcile these two concepts but doesn't the Kimono monster bear a ressemblance to Fatima? With her name literally meaning "Daughter of the Prophet" and Elgin's meaning "high-minded", we could have a timey-wimey mother/son relationship on our hands. As it occurs in Fromland, it's obviously going to be twisted. So maybe two Elgins can't coexist and his older version needs to die for Fatima's baby to be born, or her child has chosen the perfect vessel in Elgin and means to inhabit him once he's been drowned. For a less bleak outcome, his "drowning" might simply symbolize a christening or resurrection of his.
Your thoughts on myths have made me ponder whether the jellyfish entity needs human ignorance to maintain its original form and potency. The more anyone gets to peek behind the curtain, the less vague the entity becomes. So with no knowledge of its nature and potential weaknesses, it gets to hold onto a pool of infinite possibility and power that's never forced to take any particular, and therefore finite, shape forged by the perception of humans, meaning that quantum physics could factor into this as well to some extent.

Really good theory, I def think its Fatima. I think it has to do with the flood that's been reference a few times. I find it interesting the "on kuey" children also appear to be wet. Elgin also asked Fatima if there was a body of water in town after he got there.

She has different hair than Fatima, that’s the only thing that makes me think it’s possible she is someone else.
