If you’re concerned with job security, one thing that’s very cool about the program is that it’s super flexible as learn other connected skills like programming and 3D modeling, meaning you have a lot of options open to you when you graduate. The entire process of bossing Salarin is extremely good game design. It offers you a dangerous route with a lower access requirement but high liklihood of failure versus a safer route with a higher access requirement and basically nonexistent danger along that path. The boss provides the opportunity to explore new mechanics. And the skilling that is necessary to sustain either route to the boss requires the player to naturally explore basic game mechanics and improve one's skill level along the way. As a microcosm of Runescape's core gameplay loop, one-chunk Yanille skilling/gearing to bossing Salarin is an almost complete Runescape experience on its own.

I believe the dagger's +1 magic bonus is a nod to classic editions of Dungeons & Dragons. Wizards couldn't really use any melee weapons except for daggers, and low level wizards often only had one or two spells ready to go before they needed to prepare more. Smart wizard players usually kept a dagger on hand in case they got into a fight, but they would usually throw them at range rather than get into the thick of battle.

Forthos dungeon comes close to the yanille dungeon, i dare say it was the biggest inspiration.
Both have a chest that gives useful supplies that you only get the key from the dungeon itself, linear with unlockables throught progression, spiders, undead creatures and an altar.
Thats why i appreciate the forthos dungeon and the yanille dungeon, for the same reasons you mentioned, self contained dungeons that rewards progression, not a big place filled with monster like most normal dungeons/caves.

Small side note: The random herring on the table you found earlier immediately maybe think of the saying a red herring as a term of the writer leaving a obvious "clue" to throw off mystery book readers on solving the mystery. Since this is old and janky area I assume people might assume that is where dungeon ends and it's a nod to that it is not

I think it is cool when games lock parts of the game behind skills, this gives you a reason to level them. Rather than rushing around only doing what you want, which at times can get boring if you dont have a purpose to do so. This is why i really have been enjoying Osrs. I am not even a year into this game, and not watching anyone play the game normally so i dont spoil the quests for myself, but i love watching your content since it's focused more on skilling and very minimal quests, a little spoiler story but not anything i would find from the game itself. Oh and I think you doing stuff with Salarin was the point in time where I ran into you and, while asking what you were doing / why, you dropped your YT for me, leading to me subbing!

According to the wiki at the time he was released, killing him for sinister keys was the only way in the entire game to get torstals since farming hadnt been introduced yet.

I have a bit of a mind goblin where I feel the need to use almost every item as efficiently as possible, so I use some ordinarily dirt cheap runes to squeeze some value out of Salarin when I have them.

as someone who's been playing since 2005. salarin was considered the first "grindable" boss of the game. At that time the kbd still required a team of usually 3-5 people playing "tag" (each hitting the boss on a separate tick to keep him spinning and decreasing the amount of attacks he could use). the most brutal thing about salarin was the agility requirement. but he was considered EXTREMELY profitable back then due to the nearly guaranteed herb drops. I remember several guides mentioning him as a great way to train mage while being profitable.
