  • Choosing dental insurance can be tough. There are so many variables that make it tough to make the proper insurance decision.
Many people are choosing their coverage right now, so I thought it would be appropriate to give you a little run down on the pros and cons of PPO/HMO and Delta Dental vs. Humana.
Sometimes dental insurance may not be worth it. If you do not have any dental issues and go regularly, insurance may not be worth it. An in-office plan like we have a Thrive Dental is likely your best option.
In this video, we go over:
    1. The difference between PPO and HMO
    2. What's a deductible, annual maximum, and waiting period.
    3. Difference between Delta Dental and Humana.
    4. What is an in-office dental plan?
    5. Which dental plan is likely best for you!

    Dental Insurance
    1 PPO VS HMO
PPO most people get, choose any dentist
HMO is different, you have to go to their dental that they choose.
    2 look out for Deductible.
Is how much you pay before the insurance kicks in.
Higher the deductible, the lower your cost of insurance.
3 look out for annual maximum
    Some has 2000 5000
This is what you can use per year and it renew by the end of the year, so use it before the year ends. If you don’t use it, you lose it.
    4 check waiting periods
When you get insurance, you have to check to see how long it kicks in, some times you have to wait 6 months to a year before you can use your insurance.
    Usually the Orthal Benefits
5 check how much your insurance covers, some covers half or 80% for a filling.
You may need deep cleaning, crown or a bridge, you may have to pay a little more.
They may have an age limit.
    Get adult Orthal coverage.
    6 Dental insurance cost
$50 monthly depending what your looking for.
    7 delta dental
Largest provider, 150 practicing dentals around.
    8 Dental care usa
Premium will be low but waiting time is long.
    9 Delta Dental PPO
    Is his company.
Good coverage, fillings, crowns, good percentage coverage.
    They claim 60% off treatment
10 is dental insurance worth it.
It depends how much you come to the dentist.
If you only go for some cleaning, few stuff per year, it’s not worth getting insurance. If you go a lot, then yes.
    Your welcome

My dentist wants to charge above the negotiated rates for crown work. This is the 3rd dentist that rejects doing the work for the rates set by the insurance. Although in-network, they aren't willing to do the work as they don't make the expected margins. I don't mind paying a small % above the rate but their markup is way above the insurance rates.

You can go online and check the fee estimator. Delta dental and Met life have that capability. I have done this for 24 years and the dental insurance is not your friend. The insurance is a for profit business, so they are looking at their bottom line. I know this sounds crazy..but sometimes self pay is the best. Pay yourself and not the insurance company.

Caps cost to the dentist last year was under 50 dollars. I found out, they spike those charges up. I don't know if their practice is new or few patients with bigger needs, but it makes me ill when I pay 1,400 for a cap that is too much, a temporary is made in the office so it's not costing much

I made the mistake of not researching DVH plans so my insurance agent talked me into one for $57.10 per month, $785/year with $100 deductible paid each year with a max of $5,000 covered services.
After I received the plan details in the mail I canceled the policy the next day.
The insurance agent didn't mention the waiting times for coverage and the percentage of coverage per year for the first few years. Max coverage for major dental services is only 60% after 4 years. Max for vision is $200 for a 2-year period. Max for hearing is $500 per year after the first year.
DVH plans are absolute ripoffs if you can self-insure for worst-case scenarios and know how to be as healthy as possible. Most people are too stupid about healthy living.
How many years of $4,300 dental services will you need in the next 20 years? For most people, very few if any. Any charges above $5,000 in a year are not covered.

Dont get Delta. Ive had Delta for about 15 years. If i got back all the money I ever paid them then that would cover all dental work Ive ever had done. Don't waste your money on Delta. I don't know if there is something better since I pay delta through my employer. You actually are better off just getting rid of Delta and taking the weekly/monthly premiums and putting them into your own account. And im not having $5000 dental surgery just normal teeth pulling. A $1500 a year maximum cap and they might cover 60% of the bill. Thats like trying to feed a tiger with a cheeseburger. Not nearly enough. finally got tired of it after i had to cancel my last dental appointment to remove 2 molars because the insurance would barely cover half the cost.
"Delta Dental is simply the best, which is why 60 million Americans make them their choice for dental insurance." If that statement is really true than thats the sorriest statement about the dental insurance industry. Done with it.

Dr need more information on the different plans in depth seems like most are for people with minor to little work, so with periodontitis seems like a waste if dental doesn't cover that type of visit or surgical and high out of pocket defeats the purpose of insurance, like most insurance co. it's best nothing happens to you because if it does insurance is usually useless, USUALLY.

What are the best insurances with high payout and less out of pocket and lower deductible?

    • @chadgardnerdds3197
      @chadgardnerdds3197 2 года назад +3

I’m sorry but what you asked for does not exist. The only way to get, let’s say a $2500 payout with a low deductible, would cost you at least $5k/yr to the insurance company, plus your deductible and co-pays to your dentist.
Then they have exclusions. Missing tooth clause: if you are missing a tooth when you get the insurance, they don’t have to pay anything towards replacing it. Now they have put in “natural wear and attrition” clause that says they don’t have to pay to fix teeth that wear down naturally.
It’s the greatest scam of all insurances. Be careful.
