@@Sh4quille0atmeal the devs talked about future updates and one of them being like a heavy duty engine that just a nuclear reactor, like for subs and huge ships
The intercooler is probably for when we get sea water cooling. you could run a pumped sea water loop, and then the engines cooling with fresh water so that the engine does not get damaged.
Would love to see a "pull cord" starter added to the game, basically either a component you attach same place as a starter or a hand crank you attach to the front of the crank shaft and manually interact with it to put force into the engine, pull cord being adequate to start a small engine and the crank required to start bigger ones including small engines with too many cylinders, obviously requiring a clutch to work. Additionally there could also be ones designed to work as a pipe output from a block\multiblock for the crank) for use with the standard engines to start them piped to the thrust output of the engine or to run a hand crank\pull cord manual power source, as this could be great for recharging an emergency radio, charging the battery for the starter on a ship too big to start from a direct crank or possibly even power a thrust powered pump against flooding.......perhaps even a manually powered propeller on a liferaft.

Intercooler idea: you have cold fuel n the way to the engine, and hot coolant on the way to the radiator or whatever the cooling is. Route both through the intercooler and the cooling will be taken care of, and warm fuel isn’t much of a concern. Anyways, that’s how it works in an irl jet engine to cool the oil, and maybe you can try some designs out like that.
I really want to see how you make the engines run so smoothly. I've been trying to find a way to do it, but I'm struggling. Can't find a way to correct for the air/fuel ratio. A tutorial for how to do that with a microcontroller would be nice
I was thinking. Maybe the intercoolers can be used to heat the diesel/jet fuel of your vehicle with the temperature of the engine. Like waiting for your car to heat up before you drive on a cold morning. So say for instance when youre in the arctic region you may have to heat your diesel/jet fuel otherwise your engine my not run properly. Idk i just think that would be cold. You know.
I think they got the naming wrong, the intercooler should be an air cooler as it's supposed to cool the air coming from the turbo going into the engine. Air-to-liquid intercoolers are the most common, although air-to-air is also found. The name "intercooler" stems from the warbirds that had multiple supercharging stages and used an intercooler between - inter - stages..
Intercoolers serve the same purpose as radiators, but often for boats. Raw water (sea or river water) passes through - housing and is then exhausted overboard. Your engine coolant passes through a set of pipes inside that housing and is cooled before returning to the engine. The raw water serves the same purpose as air passing through a radiator, only it doesn’t need air. This is convenient for boats and ships where the engines are inside hulls. Some intercoolers use impellers to pull that raw water up through a sea chest- often connected to the engine, so when it is at high RPMs it gets more water flow to cool the associated increase in heat.
Oh man, oh man, oh man, I'm SO excited for the turbo stuff. They made it so it can be a supercharger too, nice. Water to air intercoolers are more efficient and have a smaller footprint in real life. I hope they make it viable to use instead of just piping intake air directly through a radiator. Cannot wait for cool sounds to be added and build stupid fast cars, turbo tugs, supercharged planes and massive tankers. So good.
Hey, NJ. I tried your turbo system on a working I5 of mine and it’s not working. I changed the microcontroller but that didn’t fix it. Can you help me?
I don't think the issue with the scoops is the rendering, I think it's more that the normals are inverted (hence why you can see the inside of them). Should be a quick fix but guess their priority was just getting them out for testing.
So turbos need to be deleted and started from scratch it seems.. I should probably try it and see if I am missing something before I get mad at it. But if there is no air in and out and exhaust in and out, its not really a turbo charger.

Even bug fixes and performance improvements would be good for multiplayer as well as, you know, not crashing every 5 minutes.
the intercooler could be good for using seawater to help cool the egeine one has fresh that is in the engein and the other is seawater getting passed thoght the system
Apppernetly there is a educational gap about turbochargers here: they use the exhaust to power the turbine which will suck in the fresh air on the other side to get more air into the cylinder (results in a better power output). So unless you build a electronicaly powered turbo this module is useless and unrealistic…
