      I so badly want Trump to nominate Merrick Garland to Ginsbergs seat. It would be delicious. What do the Democrats do? Block him for a second time? Say that it was a good pick by trump right before the election and vote yes? That would be a brilliant move and it should be a more left leaning judge for balance.

    With Trump comes the end of political decorum. Before these times, all presidents -- including Richard Nixon -- appreciated the reciprocity in politics, the heavy responsibility of the office which they hold, and more importantly that there is a limit to what they can and cannot do. They were not necessarily good people; they made compromises that too often were viewed as shady; they advanced their personal or partisan interests in this tenure. But, perhaps the election of Donald Trump proved that it is not truth and justice, not even the belief in truth or the appearance of justice, mattered anymore.
    All it ever took was one person who didn't care and acts as they please to tear down the informal infrastructure of this government. If Stalin, Lenin, and every dictator that had been put down by US in the name of democracy were here today, they'd be darn so glad, seeing a democracy crumbling from its inside.

      By the time we have a Democrat in office again, Garland will be in his 70s. Part of the reason Obama chose him was he knew that he’d have a better chance at getting an older judge confirmed than a younger judge. The ideal age for a SCOTUS nominee is early 40s to mid 50s at the latest.

    Its funny because Oren Hatch was asked if Obama should nominate someone a week before he chose Garland, and Hatch said “The president told me several times he’s going to name a moderate [to fill the court vacancy], but I don’t believe him. [Obama] could easily name Merrick Garland, who is a fine man. He probably won’t do that because this appointment is about the election.”
    Now conservatives like Hatch have to eat those words They are being hypocrites, and they know it. But I mean what else is new, they have been the least productive house and senate in decades, and only just because they want the President to fail more than they care about getting anything done for the country.

      They aren't even trying to hide it anymore. On March 16th, Senator Pat Toomey(PA) tweeted
      "Should Merrick Garland be nominated again by the next president, I would be happy to carefully consider his nomination..."
      I don't get this whole "It's about who makes the nomination." crap McConnell is going on about. What difference does it make WHO makes the appointment? Why can't the Senate make their decision solely on the credentials of the person nominated?

    • @geebster.
      @geebster. 8 лет назад

      Because that would require them to do their jobs. McConnell is the one that said their main job is to refuse everything Obama proposes, not to actually pass legislation. As much as I hate Gingrich, at least he got things passed while Clinton was president.
