Me too Mitzi!! The pictures and the music... perfection! Gives me chills and makes me so happy and excited! Last year was my 1st year and I've been obsessed ever since!! ❤
Glad to see you back for Victober. Any amount of hosting is wonderful, wishing you all the best for the start of the school year. Religion is such a fascinating topic to delve into in Victorian books!
(Melanie here) Even hearing your Victober music and intro got me so happy!!!! I have loved every one of your Victober videos so even if it is less than previous years, I will cherish every one you put out.
Watching your Victober intro always adds ten years to my lifespan ❤❤ Rest well, take very good care of yourself, and just enjoy the Victober season however it comes 🙏🏻💜 P.S. I wheezed when I found out that there's another book on your bleep list besides the-other-book-that-shall-not-be-named 🤣🤣
Best wishes with your health. So many great reading choices mentioned. I do metal detecting here in England so I find coins and artefacts from this time period and if I am lucky from earlier too. Happy reading.
I’ll take whatever amount of Kate we get! Feel free to just put your intro music on a loop for a video idea, that would be fab! 😉 Love the idea of the bonus prompts for Jennifer and Alice who are so very missed. Happy Victober!
Thank you so much for your honesty, Kate. It is so refreshing. If this is the only video you are able to provide, it is MORE THAN ENOUGH! I will continue to pray over you and the booktube community as we all become real. Real and honest is good. I am slowly learning. You blessed me so richly today. God bless you and your precious family! ❤
It's lovely to see the bonus prompts for Alice and Jennifer. I will be reading Sherlock Holmes, and Jo Smith and I are reading 3 men in a boat together. I may also pick up Barnaby Rudge. I think it should be very much encouraged to only give what we can, rather than make ourselves suffer or become unwell due to the pressure we put on ourselves x
So very happy to see your lovely face again, Kate! I am so sorry to hear that your struggles with your health have intensified. May the Lord bring relief and healing and new resources to help. So grateful for even just this presence of yours as part of Victober. Blessings and hugs to you and may you have a wonderful school year also! ❤️
It sure is good to see you back! It is sad that we have lost such young people, and since I have been on this platform, I know of four content creators we've lost on booktube. =( I'm so glad The Warden was not the first Trollope book I read, it was so bad. But I liked Dr. Wortle's School. So many recommendations that I want to get to. I loved the female friendships in The Cranfords. I'm so sorry your health is troubling you. Prayers for you Kate.
It's so good to see your face, Kate! I'm sorry your health has been so bad. That sounds incredibly hard. I'm glad you're hosting, but not putting pressure on yourself. You've made so much glorious Victober content over the years, and now I hope you can rest and enjoy other people's content, even though I imagine your dying to make more ❤️ I hope this Victober is still a lot of fun for you and that it fills your soul!
So happy to see you again! Loved the ideas - this Victober will be reading some of the George Eliot on my shelf. Take care my friend who originally Introduced me to Booktube
So thrilled to hear that wonderful Victober intro and to experience your great love of Victorian literature. Definitely this is the year that The Heir of Redclyffe will be on my Victober TBR. Thank you for this video--I know it took so much energy. Hope the boys are doing well. Take care of yourself first; we're all thinking of you. OH! Two more Gaskells--The Poor Clare has religious content and North & South is filled with religious discussion (thinking of Mr Hale's struggles; Bessie Higgins' faith and her father's scepticism; Margaret's struggle with her "lie"; and her return visit to Helstone & the new clergyman there.)
So glad you are still a host Kate! I'm sorry about your health, as someone who also has chronic health problems that are worse right now I really understand the struggle. Hope you find some relief soon. Take care! Don't worry about posting, it's just nice to have whatever you can give us.
so many books, so little time! After discovering Victober (gasp! Yes, I just discover all of you!), and with many books on my shelf feeling rather unloved, I have jumping into the group and have read "The Adventure of the Speckled Band", watched "The Importance of Being Ernest" on RUclips, and have begun reading "Hard Time". If only I could quit my job and just read! Thanks for all the ideas.
Sending you love, Kate. I’m so glad you are participating in Victober this year! I have to decide between George Eliot and Anthony Trollope for your prompt. So many tempting books!
I'm a former British Lit instructor and I salute you and the other ladies for Victober! It's a wonderful concept and I like the flexibility you allow which will encourage the opening of the door into Victorian literature for those folks who are, understandably, hesitant. I made a list of works you recommend above which sound wonderful. For your religious prompt, I would add "Dracula." Steeped in Catholic doctrine, its events are set in a Christian metaphysics of evil as a perverse version of good. Dracula is a counterfeit Christ who offers his followers a form of eternal life, bodily resurrection (after 3 days!), takes his bride from the sleeping groom's side, and even has his own John the Baptist! But like any counterfeit, when the real Christ is evoked, he loses all power. I pray for your healing and hope to see you during Victober.
Yay Victober 🎉❤. So happy to see you again. Sorry your health is a bit poor still. I think of you often and I keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I hope to see more videos during Victober, but understand that this season in life has many demands. Be well.
So many amazing recommendations! I read both Heir of Redclyffe and Dynevor Terrace this summer and adored them!! Can’t wait to read more CMY. She’s definitely a new favourite Victorian writer!!
Oh so many good recommendations --- I can't wait!! We are starting school tomorrow, too. I hope you have a wonderful year and that your health improves tremendously! 🥰
Kate, it’s just wonderful to see this new video from you, in celebration and anticipation of Victober!! I’m thrilled about your choice of prompt!! Thanks to you and Catherine!!
It’s so nice to see you again. I will read The Doctor’s Wife and a Wilkie Collins’ book in honour of Jenny. And maybe The Vicar of Bullhampton as well. I’m just reading too many nonfictions.
My favorite time of the year! When I saw your video for Victober I hastily clicked on it. I love your intros. New Pics! I just read all the Barchester Cronicles books. So I am all set for that theme. I will probably read the Doctors Wife. I don't know about the rest. I'm sorry you've had a bad health year. I have too. Right now I am suffering from Bursitis in my legs and hips. I cannot walk. It's been two months and not better. I also have Liver disease and two autoimmune diseases to go along with it. So I can relate, but I am older than you. I'm so excited about Victober! So glad you are back. Take care of yourself.
I’m just so to have a video from you despite your health problems! No pressure at all, we have so many amazing past Victober videos you did through the years that we can rewatch! In fact I just rewatched you and your husband discussing Middlemarch the other day and it definitely made me want to do a re-read this year. I’ve been in a Bronte vortex pretty much since the end of Jane Austen July so I’m definitely ready for Victober. 😂
Yay -- looking forward to it! I will be reading my first Wilkie Collins this year (The Woman in White). I'm sorry to hear about your health, Kate -- take good care!
So good to hear that theme and pictures! I am sure everyone who follows you wants the best for you and if ypur energy levels are low - relax! We can look back at all those previous videos you have given us - take care!
I am so excited! I love victober so much!❤ I am definitely reading George Macdonald’s Princess and the Goblin, some Sherlock Holmes, and either Silvia’s Lovers or Mary Barton, and maybe The Woman in White. I am so sorry you are not feeling well. Praying for you. I am so glad you decided to participate some. Some is better than none.
Victober!!! The possibilities you offer for your prompt are so appealing. I believe I will try to read Vicar of Bullhampton and Daniel Deronda. And I will reread Govlin Market, that is such a favorite! I hope the start of school goes well for you and the boys. Take good care.

Great to see you, Kate! You have been missed and I hope you find relief from the different things you are trying related to your health. Very excited for Victober! Thank you for the terrific suggestions for your prompt. I think I will give Adam Bede a try. And will absolutely be reading The Woman in White and Sherlock to honour Jennifer Brooks and Alice❤️📚
It is such a blessing to see you again and your introduction is one of my very best favorites, during Victober!! I remember how much you loved The Vicar of Bullhampton by Anthony Trollope, so that is probably my pick. Thank you so much Kate, be kind to yourself, you are loved.
Your channel is terrific. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable, when it comes to English literature. But you always bring up books I've never heard of, and I must go seek out!
This was a wonderful intro to Victober Kate! I enjoyed every minute of it. As others have mentioned the music definitely sets the mood. The description of your book recommendations is really helpful too! Looking forward to a fun Victober! 📚🍁
Kate Howe spoke with #CharlotteMYonge Fellowship members Clemence and Julia last year. Love your #CharlotteMYonge suggestions! She is the ideal author for your challenge. Just one more suggestion - the family saga, The Daisy Chain.
I am delighted to see you!! I’ve been thinking of Victober since Jane Austen July ended. And your intro to Victober videos is my all time favorite, nothing will ever top my love for it. I’m participating of course and will definitely be reading a Collins and Doyle for Jennifer and Alice.❤️
So happy to see you post on booktube again, Kate. I love Victober and look forward to putting my TBR together! Praying your health will improve and that you feel better soon. ❤
I broke into a smile when your face popped up in my feed! I’m so happy you are still co-hosting Victober in whatever way works for you. I’m so sorry you are still struggling with your health so much. I hope this season ends soon for you and that you can start finding some relief! I am very excited to be participating in Victober again and for the first time as a booktuber! I will probably read 2 or 3 books. For sure The Woman in White which we are reading for the Cozy Reader Book Club. And hopefully Deerbrook as well which you raved about awhile back and so I bought myself a copy. A lovely video as always, Kate! I will look forward to whatever content you can produce for Victober. 😊
@@jensreadinglife 😃 Thank you, Jen! I appreciate the well wishes very much. It is so fun that you are participating as a booktuber now! Love that you have cozy and creepy covered with those two wonderful books. I hope you love them both!
So excited by victober already and have chosen quite a few books from looking at all the announcements. Alice would love that you have included her in this thank you 💔🥰
Good to see you, Kate. Sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling well. Sending positive vibes your way. I'm looking forward to participating in my 2nd Victober. I have Armadale on my 24 Books for 2024 list, so I'm thinking about reading it for Victober along with The Hound of the Baskervilles. If If I can get a copy through my library, I'll read this year's group read. I enjoyed last year's group read very much. It was a wonderful introduction to Anthony Trollope.
I wasn't sure what I'd do for your prompt, but I just remembered that I bought Kilvert's Diary last year and never read it! Time to overstock my TBR list.
Wow Kate, I was so excited to see this video from you. I managed to get a copy of the Heir of Redclyffe after your wonderful recommendation. I think it will be perfect for victober 💕📚
The Victober announcement video is always so exciting! 😍 I am definitely planning on reading Dracula this year. Other possibilities will be Mary Barton and Agnes Grey.
yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ! For the last few years i've participated quietly offline but still religiously participate and so look forward to Victober every year.
@@katehowereads I've been browsing my bookshelves since the announcement videos and have given it some thought. I've really been enjoying slow reading this year, so I'll have a very small TBR - a reread of Adam Bede and a new to me read - The Dead Secret by Wilkie Collins. I'll also be reading Charles Spurgeon's Morning and Evening Devotional daily. Plus, will be enjoying my annual Victober tea - Harney and Sons Victorian London Fog Tea and making a recipe from my Dinner with Dickens cookbook and of course listen to lots of Victorian ambiance videos on RUclips while I work. Not related to any of the prompts, but bonus for me - I have a preorder of a new release - Victorian Christmas by Lucinda Dickens Hawksley - I'll be dipping into that end of month to give me some ideas for Christmas 🎄
@@radiantchristina Christina, this sounds like the loveliest cozy plan! I love that you are keeping your tbr so simple and then you can have more time to savor. I still would love it if you would start a substack so I could follow your Victober celebrating!
I’m struggling with this prompt! So many Victorian novels include religion in some way but I really want to read something that is strongly focused on religion. Your suggestions are great!
It’s so lovely to see you!! ❤❤❤ The Doctor’s Wife is one I have wanted to read for awhile. Lilias Trotter has beautiful art and writing - I’m so glad you are recommending her! And lastly I am so so sorry to hear about Alice’s death - she was so charming and sweet. I know she will be missed.
I'm so happy to see you back! I've been thinking on you these last few weeks but I didn't want to be weird leaving you a "how are you doing?" comment on one of your videos. Whatever content you feel like to film and post will be very much welcomed and enjoyed 😃 I'll be reading Linda Tressel by Trollope for your challenge 🤗 Take care!
Dear Kate, Even if this will be your only contribution to Victober this year, it was a very informative and enjoyable introduction! Look after yourself and don't overdo it. We will understand! ❤
@@katehowereads I think it's going to be The Woman in White! This will be a re-read, haven't read it in 13 years! I remember almost nothing. Will be thinking of Jennifer ❣️
So good to see you back! I've been really getting into Anthony Trollope this year so I'm going to get back into the next in his Barchester series with Barchester Towers and Doctor Thorne😎📚
I’m so sorry that you’ve been having such a rough time with your health- it’s something I can certainly relate to and I’ve been very out of the loop with Booktube this year as I’ve prioritised my health and caring for my special needs boys. It’s just how life goes sometimes isn’t it! I hope that it just makes Victober even more special for us as we make a big effort to participate and enjoy definitely the most wonderful time of the year xx Ps have you heard of George Mueller? If not he was a Victorian gentleman who ran some orphanages in Bristol and he was a deeply religious man. There’s an autobiography by him and I do believe a lot of his journals and other essays/ writings on faith are still in print. I hasten to say I’ve not yet read any of his works- I’ve just found out about him and what an inspiring person he was, but I do have his autobiography and I was planning on reading that for Victober so that will fit your prompt very nicely xx
@@amandalavelle2638 Oh Amanda, I so wish I could give you a hug and we could share a cup of tea together and talk about all the reasons we love Victorian Literature and what a respite it is from life's troubles. I hope you are able to savor some great books during Victober! I have heard of George Mueller but didn't even think about seeing if he had written anything. Thanks for the recommendation!
I have been wanting to read The Doctor's Wife ever since you mentioned it in your Victorian Literary Medecine Cabinet. So excited it got picked for the group read! Victober reading starts today for me. I will only hold off on wearing Victober sweatshirt until October 😂
I've got my list. I'm not sure how I'll get everything read; my reading time has gotten cut down, but I'm usually up late so that will be a good time to read: Religion - The Warden by Anthony Trollope Serial Publication - Our Mutual Friend Form - The Tenant of Wildfell Hall Victorian drama - a play by Robert Browning...not sure which one yet Bonus prompts - Wilkie Collins--The Woman in White... and Arthur Conan Doyle -The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Group read: The Doctor's Wife Have y'all ever thought of reading a bio of a Victorian author for Victober? I wrote my diss on Charlotte Brontë and there are several good bios of her, beginning with Elizabeth Gaskell's and including Winifred Guerin's, Juliet Barker's, Rebecca Fraser's and Lyndall Gordon's. Mrs. Gaskell's might be the most appropriate for Victober, though, as it was published in 1857 and includes a lot of Charlotte Brontë's letters (I'd like to go all witch of Endor and call up Mary Taylor and holler at her for getting rid of Charlotte's letters to her...apparently she got rid of most/all of them! There are hints that those contained more of what Charlotte really thought about the culture they lived in, tho' her novels give a good insight too, particularly Shirley).
I'm so sorry that your health is getting worse! ❤ I'm so excited for Victober! I have been having a Victorian literature summer. I've read so much! I think I will re-read The Three Brides for your prompt!
That intro music does it to me every time!! I am ready for this!!

Lovely to see you Kate!
So nice to see you here, Kate. 💜
@@an.intentional.reader It's lovely to be back!
Alice would love that you have included her in this thank you 💔🥰
Kate - I missed your great posts. So glad that you are back for Victober. You are looking so rested and lovely, by the way.
Thank you, Julie! It was so fun putting a video up.
Thank you for this video. It’s much appreciated. Wishing you the best.
Some of your presence will always be better than none! I really hope to get to Husband and Wife this Victober and maybe Kilvert's diary.
I hope you get feeling well soon!
@@katsnoveladventures1863 Thank you, Kate! Oooh! You've got some wonderful autumnal atmosphere with those books!
I wasn't sure what I'd do for your prompt, but I just remembered that I bought Kilvert's Diary last year and never read it! Time to overstock my TBR list.
It's wonderful to see you! I missed you and will pray for you, Kate.
Thank you so much!
I look forward to seeing whate'er you're able to upload for Victober. Many thanks for sharing some recommendations of titles.
@@CharlesHeathcote Thank you, Charlie!
Wow Kate, I was so excited to see this video from you. I managed to get a copy of the Heir of Redclyffe after your wonderful recommendation. I think it will be perfect for victober 💕📚
Oooh! So excited you found a physical copy!
I was convinced you would come back for Victober! Missed you but understand you conserving energy for the most important things. God bless you.
I just couldn't miss out on this very special event!
I love your prompt Kate & agree because religion was huge in the Victorian era!!
Happy Victober!! 🎉 ❤ 😊
@@a.g.2790 Thank you! I hope it's a wonderful Victober for you!
I love what you do. I will pray for your health.
Missed you on here! Glad to see you again! 🙌🏻
The Victober announcement video is always so exciting! 😍 I am definitely planning on reading Dracula this year. Other possibilities will be Mary Barton and Agnes Grey.
@@robinkirk1821 All wonderful options! Dracula is such a treat for this time of year.
yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ! For the last few years i've participated quietly offline but still religiously participate and so look forward to Victober every year.
@@radiantchristina Hi Christina!! 🙋♀️ What are your top priority books this year?
I am soooo happy to see you!! You were definitely missed. I am looking forward to Victober and it would not be the same without you. 😊
Thank you, Kami!!
I'd been wondering about Victober and am glad to see this video.
Thank you, Lisa!
I am so excited to learn more about Lilias Trotter. Did you know there was a documentary made about her?
@@katehowereads I have not seen the documentary but I would love to. I learned about her many years ago from Elisabeth Elliot who greatly admired her.
@@lisabailes1065 I saw that! So cool she was admired by Elisabeth.
Ahhhh! So so excited! I got giddy as soon as I heard the intro music 😍
@@morghanpickens2088 I can't wait to hear about your Victober plans!
I'm so happy to see you back! I've been thinking on you these last few weeks but I didn't want to be weird leaving you a "how are you doing?" comment on one of your videos. Whatever content you feel like to film and post will be very much welcomed and enjoyed 😃
I'll be reading Linda Tressel by Trollope for your challenge 🤗
Take care!
So nice to see you! I have missed you.
It is wonderful to see you! Victober is sure to be wonderful! Get ready, get set…
Thank you, Candyce!
Dear Kate,
Even if this will be your only contribution to Victober this year, it was a very informative and enjoyable introduction! Look after yourself and don't overdo it. We will understand! ❤
Thank you for your kind words! 💜
I am so excited for another spectacular Victober! 🥰
The best is yet to come!
Sylvia’s Lovers is my main choice! 🥰♥️
Glad to see you're back! The Heir of Redclyffe sounds amazing! Hope you get feeling better 🥰
So excited about Charley’s Aunt 🎭📖& Victober 2024🎉
I can't wait to read it!
So EXCITED!!
@@Movingthebookmark SAME!! What is your top priority book?
@@katehowereads I think it's going to be The Woman in White! This will be a re-read, haven't read it in 13 years! I remember almost nothing. Will be thinking of Jennifer ❣️
@@Movingthebookmark ooooh! So lovely you are treating yourself to a reread! It really is perfect for this time of year.
So good to see you back! I've been really getting into Anthony Trollope this year so I'm going to get back into the next in his Barchester series with Barchester Towers and Doctor Thorne😎📚
Thank you! You really can't go wrong with Trollope.
I’m so sorry that you’ve been having such a rough time with your health- it’s something I can certainly relate to and I’ve been very out of the loop with Booktube this year as I’ve prioritised my health and caring for my special needs boys. It’s just how life goes sometimes isn’t it! I hope that it just makes Victober even more special for us as we make a big effort to participate and enjoy definitely the most wonderful time of the year xx
Ps have you heard of George Mueller?
So excited to hear what you think of The Doctor's Wife! I can NOT wait to don my Victober sweatshirt!
I've got my list. I'm not sure how I'll get everything read; my reading time has gotten cut down, but I'm usually up late so that will be a good time to read:
Religion - The Warden by Anthony Trollope
Serial Publication - Our Mutual Friend
Form - The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
Victorian drama - a play by Robert Browning...not sure which one yet
Bonus prompts - Wilkie Collins--The Woman in White... and Arthur Conan Doyle -The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
Group read: The Doctor's Wife
Have y'all ever thought of reading a bio of a Victorian author for Victober?
Thank you, Heather!! I think The Three Brides would be a lovely one to reread.
