He has a larger range, more vocal agility, a healthier mix, more stamina, (btw he did tgwdlm with Laryngitis and asthma), and does more with his voice than dylan. Dylan was great for jafar but he cant munipulate his voice like robert can. The single best example of robert modyfing his voice really well is ethans bad double. (ItS jUsT lIkE CaLiForNia... *IT NEVER RAINS* ) But robert just hasnt gotten the big roles and since he's only been in a forth of starkid's shows, some people just dont know he exists.

James and Denise are spectacular dancers, but the work they've done for StarKid is mostly choreography. When people don't see them dancing and showing off their skills in every musical, they don't appreciate them as much.

Also, Robert is an amazing choreographer as well (look up his choreography for Heathers in Australia). I was struggling in that part of the voting SO MUCH Like, in one point you have James that is a choreographer since AVPS, and dances in Black Friday, but that's all And then you have Robert, we have seen him dancing in all 3 shows he has been part of. The thing with starship and the costume category is what is considered a costume? Is the puppet for bug considered a costume? Because it’s kinda is but it’s also a puppet, if it is, does that mean the other puppets are costumes? The lines very blurred
Yeah, I have this same question. Because if Bug and Pincer are considered as costumes, then it should have been in the running. But also, were they considered as part of the set design? Are they props? Should there have been a props category?
I feel a possible reason for that is more people in the fandom have watched the newer ones more and the older ones less, especially since MAMD has a weird topic. Another reason could be because of low audio/video quality, but it’s about the same as AVPM. I honestly thing MAMD/Ready to Go is one of if not the best opening number(s).

Best actor is subjective because there’s a difference between dramatic acting and comedy acting, I agree with the choices but think there should be separate categories!
I don't particularly feel like commenting on everything because I am tired, but I figured I'd say just how interesting so many of these choices are. Most of them I understand but don't agree with. The most interesting to me was best show, because I think Twisted is the objectively best show but TGWDLM is my personal favorite. It's just so cool to see this kind of stuff.
I have similar feelings about Twisted and Dylan. Twisted is technically probably their best show (and up there in shows in general, honestly), but Starship will forever be my top choice. And Dylan is technically an extremely talented performer/actor but Joey will always be tops for me.
I love all starkid shows but I'm not the biggest fan of the potter trilogy, or, mamd, or ani- (oh god, I think I'm only a fan of the new shows/hmb/starship)

I have to say, I was expecting mostly the fandom's most popular opinions, but some choices and statistics surprised me. Also, HOW DID FIREBRINGER NOT WIN ANYTHING? (Except 3rd place for "Best music", that was pretty valid.) I mean, the costumes are AMAZING and honestly deserved to be in 1st place. So is the choreography - Denise should've gotten so much more recognition for that! And all of the acting was done really well, too.

Yeah Firebringer should have won Best Set Design as well. I don't think Team Starkid has ever had a Set Design before or since that was as intricate as Firebringer's. Though, I do have to say, as great as Firebringer's costumes were, Twisted's was better. Twisted should have gotten first and Firebringer should have gotten second for costumes.
For me, I would switch TGWDLM and Firebringer's music rank. Probably because I'm a sucker for harmonies. Yeah, it's because I'm a sucker for harmonies.
I was a bit disappointed that Twisted didn't win anything for humor, but really happy that TGWDLM got 2nd place for that. Also, Firebringer deserves more love.

Actually the top two in both categories are professional dance choreographers. Robert hasn't choreographed for Team Starkid yet, but Lauren Lopez has choreographed a lot for Team Starkid. But yeah, I agree James Tolbert should have gotten first over Robert. Lauren and Denise are hard because they're both fantastic dancers. I think Denise edges it for me, but just barely so I'm ok with Lauren taking it. I just disagree with the disparity between Lauren's votes and Denise's. Should not have been that wide a margin.
Being a dancer and being a choreographer are two differentthings. For example, Abby Lee Miller was a choreographer, but not a dancer, and Robert Manion actually has choreographed for shows. He did the choreograhy for a Heathers production. I wouldve had a tie between James and robert because theyre both so good.
I’m happy about the songs chosen for best closing number because I picked inevitable but the other two were both close seconds Edit: I think the writing improved in the most recent musicals(in terms of plot) but I really like the comedy of the older musicals too
I'm surprised the best singers weren't closer. Like Jaime and Dylan are amazing and probably should have won, but when you have people like Lauren, Mariah, Kim, Alex, Britney, Rachel, Meredith, Jaime Burns and Ali for the girls and Curt, Tyler, Brant, Robert, Brosenthal, Brolden, Joey, Corey, Clark and Darren for the boys you'd think it would've been closer. Like the winner gets like 20-30% instead of 40-50% of the votes.
Y'all are acting like Robert isn't also a choreographer. He's choreographed for shows before (I absolutely recommend watching his Candy Store dance for the Tasmanian production of Heathers if you haven't already seen it), he just hasn't choreographed for Starkid (yet). And every dance role he's ever got in a show he's always absolutely nailed. That being said, I hope we see James in future shows because there's certainly no denying he's a fantastic dancer. I still agree with Robert getting the top spot, but I'm surprised there was still a ten percent gap between him and James. I was expecting less.
my opinions and choices for each category! :D best lead actor im going Dylan, ja'far is phenomenally portrayed. a truly masterful performance. however, my second place would also probably go to jon. the man won over the starkid fans in one show, and his incredible acting makes his debut a solid one! best lead actress it's Lauren for me! her work as emma is some great stuff, well rounded in comedic and dramatic moments with great delivery. it's a shame Jaime hasn't gotten a spotlight, because with what she has she kills it! if she had a more prominent lead, shed surely put up a fight for this spot! nothing but love for meredith and rachel, both have show-stopping musical gifts with acting chops to boot! best male dancer james and robert are tied for this title! james is overflowing with skill in choreography and dance (he did stutter and many more iconic numbers dear to my heart), and robert is a killer triple threat who packs a punch in the dancing department! that covered, joe walker and brian holden are underrepresented for how much they hold their own as dancers. i love watching various performances of stutter, as they both shine with a passionate flair. best female dancer lauren takes the cake yet again! no compliment i can bring hasn't been said before, she is quite the dancing queen. my second pick? one hundred percent Denise!!! she's another diamond in the rough, an underrated choreographer and dancer to be sure. she choreographed firebringer for goodness sakes, every routine in that show is iconic! best male singer this is a toughie! Dylan is a profound vocalist with technically consistent perfection and he snags number one with his role as ja'far. however, Robert has such a glorious Broadway tone, crazy range and effortless vibrato that definitely puts him in the running. I need to give honors to Jeff, hes a crazy talented songwriter and how he uses both his natural range and falsetto requires an insane level of control. aj, brosenthal and Corey are all vocal angels that sweep me off my feet, and Joey's belts such as in wagon on fire and made in America have this husk that adds this rugged power to them. this segment is getting too crowded but it's all everybody's fault cause they're all amazing. best female singer Jaime! Jaime! Jaime!! she will belt me to death! join us and die has a six second c#5!!! WHAT?!?! how can this be??? i first heard of Mariah from mean girls, and when i tell you she's a powerhouse i mean it. child has range like nobody's business. lastly i nominate Rachel as one of my personal favorites!!! worlds at stake, everything and more and power in me knock my socks off. she slays!! Kim also goes crazy high in take me back, like, mind-blowingly high. i also am compelled to mention Meredith in the night belongs to us, as those belts at the end are in my head at all times. starkid ladies are so impressive! best opening number GOING BACK TO HOGWARTS BABEYY! dream a little harder sneaks up just a smidge behind, so both are incredible songs that give us everything about the world, and are also super catchy. both are some of my favorites from their respective shows! tgwdlm is a banger, but let's not forget i wanna be and hmb, who id nestle in right on it's same level! best closing number inevitable and what if tomorrow comes are both such chilling and well crafted numbers. witc is one of my personal favorites from Black Friday, which is why i personally nudge it a bit higher, but to each their own! super friends is such an upbeat, fun, peppy jam, a contrast from the previous two, that definitely earns it's spot. id put days of summer right under, it feels so nostalgic and is quite the earworm! best costumes holy musical batman, you know it! the heroes and villians are decked out in comic-true attire, the brightness and simplicity give each character a clear, clean look. truly out of the park! twisted shines in the same way, this time adapting cartoon to stage. starship and firebringer share the number three spot until i figure out what counts as a costume or not! best scenic design my my, im surprised starship didn't grab this title! as a person who's mother is a puppeteer, trust me when i say these are quality puppets. the universe is so well designed, i love it so much. black friday's design gives off the creepy and mysterious vibe incredibly well and perfectly captures the shows energy! same for tto, but change creepy and mysterious to yeehaw! best music the impossible question!!!! twisted's the king of the mountain for me, but i love every song in tgwdlm. firebringer has a killer soundtrack with the sharpest harmonies in all of starkid, Ani is filled with eighties energy that plays on repeat in your brain, and hmb and starship are both one hundred percent sound with each track. mamd has some of my favorite gems that get overshadowed by some... weirdness... such as even though, ready to go, listen to your heart and big ts temptation. overall do what you want!!!! i can't get mad at you!!! everything is impeccable!!!! best comedy a tie yet again! you tie a lot, I hear you saying, but i strongly believe the show with the same comedic prowess as tto is... I've said this before somewhere but I feel it needs to be said again: One of my only problems with Starkid is they have a lot of very strong vocalists that work well with solos, but don't blend very well in ensemble songs, so much so that you can easily pick out at least two or three people in songs like Dream a Little Harder, Feast or Famine, and La Dee Da Da Day, to name a few examples. I find that very irritating and that's one of the only things that irk me about their musicals.
I agree! Brosenthal is criminally underrated and AJ and Curt are amazing singers. I mean did you hear Curt in SAF? AMAZING! Gilderoy and Listen to Your Heart? AMAZING! Everything Ends? I cry every time! I look forward to hearing more of Curt in future Starkid shows and I wish we could get AJ or Brian back so that the newer Starkid fans could see their talent. I think AJ has moved on to bigger things (like BoM in Australia) but Brian still works with Starkid (sound design for TGWDLM) so maybe he can be in another show soon.

There is obviously a recent bias to the posts, most things are fair cause people have grown and evolved but the people you have seen or heard from most recently are gonna be the ones at the front of your mind when you vote. That’s why a lot of actors from the older og shows didn’t get nowhere near as muscular recognition

I have to say, I was expecting mostly the fandom's most popular opinions, but some choices and statistics surprised me.
Also, HOW DID FIREBRINGER NOT WIN ANYTHING? (Except 3rd place for "Best music", that was pretty valid.) I mean, the costumes are AMAZING and honestly deserved to be in 1st place. So is the choreography - Denise should've gotten so much more recognition for that! And all of the acting was done really well, too.

Yeah Firebringer should have won Best Set Design as well. I don't think Team Starkid has ever had a Set Design before or since that was as intricate as Firebringer's.
Though, I do have to say, as great as Firebringer's costumes were, Twisted's was better. Twisted should have gotten first and Firebringer should have gotten second for costumes.

Actually the top two in both categories are professional dance choreographers. Robert hasn't choreographed for Team Starkid yet, but Lauren Lopez has choreographed a lot for Team Starkid. But yeah, I agree James Tolbert should have gotten first over Robert. Lauren and Denise are hard because they're both fantastic dancers. I think Denise edges it for me, but just barely so I'm ok with Lauren taking it. I just disagree with the disparity between Lauren's votes and Denise's. Should not have been that wide a margin.
Being a dancer and being a choreographer are two differentthings. For example, Abby Lee Miller was a choreographer, but not a dancer, and Robert Manion actually has choreographed for shows. He did the choreograhy for a Heathers production. I wouldve had a tie between James and robert because theyre both so good.
I’m happy about the songs chosen for best closing number because I picked inevitable but the other two were both close seconds
Edit: I think the writing improved in the most recent musicals(in terms of plot) but I really like the comedy of the older musicals too

Like Jaime and Dylan are amazing and probably should have won, but when you have people like Lauren, Mariah, Kim, Alex, Britney, Rachel, Meredith, Jaime Burns and Ali for the girls and Curt, Tyler, Brant, Robert, Brosenthal, Brolden, Joey, Corey, Clark and Darren for the boys you'd think it would've been closer. Like the winner gets like 20-30% instead of 40-50% of the votes.

Y'all are acting like Robert isn't also a choreographer. He's choreographed for shows before (I absolutely recommend watching his Candy Store dance for the Tasmanian production of Heathers if you haven't already seen it), he just hasn't choreographed for Starkid (yet). And every dance role he's ever got in a show he's always absolutely nailed. That being said, I hope we see James in future shows because there's certainly no denying he's a fantastic dancer. I still agree with Robert getting the top spot, but I'm surprised there was still a ten percent gap between him and James. I was expecting less.

im going Dylan, ja'far is phenomenally portrayed. a truly masterful performance. however, my second place would also probably go to jon. the man won over the starkid fans in one show, and his incredible acting makes his debut a solid one!
best lead actress
it's Lauren for me! her work as emma is some great stuff, well rounded in comedic and dramatic moments with great delivery. it's a shame Jaime hasn't gotten a spotlight, because with what she has she kills it! if she had a more prominent lead, shed surely put up a fight for this spot! nothing but love for meredith and rachel, both have show-stopping musical gifts with acting chops to boot!
best male dancer
james and robert are tied for this title! james is overflowing with skill in choreography and dance (he did stutter and many more iconic numbers dear to my heart), and robert is a killer triple threat who packs a punch in the dancing department! that covered, joe walker and brian holden are underrepresented for how much they hold their own as dancers. i love watching various performances of stutter, as they both shine with a passionate flair.

lauren takes the cake yet again! no compliment i can bring hasn't been said before, she is quite the dancing queen. my second pick? one hundred percent Denise!!! she's another diamond in the rough, an underrated choreographer and dancer to be sure. she choreographed firebringer for goodness sakes, every routine in that show is iconic!
best male singer
this is a toughie! Dylan is a profound vocalist with technically consistent perfection and he snags number one with his role as ja'far. however, Robert has such a glorious Broadway tone, crazy range and effortless vibrato that definitely puts him in the running. I need to give honors to Jeff, hes a crazy talented songwriter and how he uses both his natural range and falsetto requires an insane level of control. aj, brosenthal and Corey are all vocal angels that sweep me off my feet, and Joey's belts such as in wagon on fire and made in America have this husk that adds this rugged power to them. this segment is getting too crowded but it's all everybody's fault cause they're all amazing.

Jaime! Jaime! Jaime!! she will belt me to death! join us and die has a six second c#5!!! WHAT?!?! how can this be??? i first heard of Mariah from mean girls, and when i tell you she's a powerhouse i mean it. child has range like nobody's business. lastly i nominate Rachel as one of my personal favorites!!! worlds at stake, everything and more and power in me knock my socks off. she slays!! Kim also goes crazy high in take me back, like, mind-blowingly high. i also am compelled to mention Meredith in the night belongs to us, as those belts at the end are in my head at all times. starkid ladies are so impressive!
best opening number
GOING BACK TO HOGWARTS BABEYY! dream a little harder sneaks up just a smidge behind, so both are incredible songs that give us everything about the world, and are also super catchy. both are some of my favorites from their respective shows! tgwdlm is a banger, but let's not forget i wanna be and hmb, who id nestle in right on it's same level!
best closing number
inevitable and what if tomorrow comes are both such chilling and well crafted numbers. witc is one of my personal favorites from Black Friday, which is why i personally nudge it a bit higher, but to each their own! super friends is such an upbeat, fun, peppy jam, a contrast from the previous two, that definitely earns it's spot. id put days of summer right under, it feels so nostalgic and is quite the earworm!
best costumes
holy musical batman, you know it! the heroes and villians are decked out in comic-true attire, the brightness and simplicity give each character a clear, clean look. truly out of the park! twisted shines in the same way, this time adapting cartoon to stage. starship and firebringer share the number three spot until i figure out what counts as a costume or not!
best scenic design
my my, im surprised starship didn't grab this title! as a person who's mother is a puppeteer, trust me when i say these are quality puppets. the universe is so well designed, i love it so much. black friday's design gives off the creepy and mysterious vibe incredibly well and perfectly captures the shows energy! same for tto, but change creepy and mysterious to yeehaw!
best music
the impossible question!!!! twisted's the king of the mountain for me, but i love every song in tgwdlm. firebringer has a killer soundtrack with the sharpest harmonies in all of starkid, Ani is filled with eighties energy that plays on repeat in your brain, and hmb and starship are both one hundred percent sound with each track. mamd has some of my favorite gems that get overshadowed by some... weirdness... such as even though, ready to go, listen to your heart and big ts temptation. overall do what you want!!!! i can't get mad at you!!! everything is impeccable!!!!
best comedy
a tie yet again! you tie a lot, I hear you saying, but i strongly believe the show with the same comedic prowess as tto is... Ani!!!! now, this is hit or miss for some folks, which I get. nothing can be everyone's different cup of tea! but everything in this show is so well delivered and written, and that's where the comedy comes in.

yes it's Lauren! of course! have you seen the Tanya Fremont scene???? it's an incredibly powerful, tense moment, and her delivery rocks me to my core. Jaime fights for that spot though, i mean, look at her ability! Charlotte to Sherman, Ginny to Sally, mouthface to poison ivy to that one mosquito bro who I forgot the name of! that's quite the arsenal!
best starkid overall
ok so you know how everything before this was the impossible question? this is really it. those other questions were in preparation for this one. but I'll try! no ties this time! yay character development! jaime is my personal favorite, she has chart-topping acting and singing abilities and has been in every possible starkid show. what's not to love? she deserves a head lead! however, that's me! Lauren and Joey are great picks for the top, but so are brosenthal and brolden and joe walker and Jeff and aj and dylan and meredith and Rachel and nick and Kim and, i don't have time for this, maybe you really like the band and Clark baxtresser is your favorite!! you can go crazy!!!! whoever you pick, you're right!!!!! horray!!!!!!

I've said this before somewhere but I feel it needs to be said again: One of my only problems with Starkid is they have a lot of very strong vocalists that work well with solos, but don't blend very well in ensemble songs, so much so that you can easily pick out at least two or three people in songs like Dream a Little Harder, Feast or Famine, and La Dee Da Da Day, to name a few examples. I find that very irritating and that's one of the only things that irk me about their musicals.

I agree! Brosenthal is criminally underrated and AJ and Curt are amazing singers. I mean did you hear Curt in SAF? AMAZING! Gilderoy and Listen to Your Heart? AMAZING! Everything Ends? I cry every time! I look forward to hearing more of Curt in future Starkid shows and I wish we could get AJ or Brian back so that the newer Starkid fans could see their talent. I think AJ has moved on to bigger things (like BoM in Australia) but Brian still works with Starkid (sound design for TGWDLM) so maybe he can be in another show soon.

There is obviously a recent bias to the posts, most things are fair cause people have grown and evolved but the people you have seen or heard from most recently are gonna be the ones at the front of your mind when you vote.
