I own a 2018 Beta 390 RR-S set up for week long off-road Moto-Camping trips. I avoided the 500 due to excessive HP that I figured would just get me in trouble. The 390 has a longer stroke than the 500-430 or 350 and feels like it has the most useable torque of the bunch. Im a lazy, short shifting old bastard that often finds himself in a gear or two higher then he should be. With the 390 it just doesn’t seem to matter. Twist the throttle and it just chugs its way out of the predicament. Kind of like driving a diesel truck. Dirt Bike Channel Kyle Brotherson (a diehard KTM devote) rated the Beta 390 RR as his favorite trail bike. Easy to ride🤗
I just talked to the local Beta dealer, a guy in his 60's (I'm 71) who rides a 390 himself. He says the 350 needs to rev, the 390 is for short-shifters like us (now riding a DR650) the 430 has a big "hit" and the 480 is a "big baby" - like a 390 but more power.
If you can run across an older Beta say 2012 - up they are basically the same bike aside from fuel injection - I have a 2012 Beta 520RS & geared properly itll still cruise @ 65-70 easily, & top out near 100 & still have all you can hang onto in the woods.
I always get excited whenever I see you have posted a new video. As a Utah native myself, I love how well you show off this amazing state that we live in! All the time and effort you put into each one of your videos is definitely worth it! Keep it up!
500 beta is definitely on my bucket list! that perfect bike to do it all and highway speeds! capabilities to do tough single track and power to just get you back home or to your truck if you end up exploring and going way out. Perfect for logging roads and old mining roads with plenty of power in the bank in case something comes up! 701 690 is also close to that "unicorn bike" both are great bikes
Video content is great... transition volume between the music and the voiceover was a bit to drastic for me though... had to turn it down for the music and back up for the voice at points... Regardless, thanks for your contribution to our sport!

Never got to ride a Beta 500, but I liked the KTM 530 that a friend had. It also was geared really tall. We had a really good buying experience getting a brand new '17 beta crosstrainer 300, set up with a bunch of aftermarket goodies AND plateable here...for substantially less than a stock KTM 2T. I still have a KTM 200EXC for most trail riding or to loan to friends (my wife fits on the Beta better when we go out and ride occasionally). Maybe eventually I'll get a 4 stroke...lots of realllly good fuel-injected options these days, but expensive ($10k). Beta also has a 200RR which is supposedly a light weight beast.

Beautiful video! It was great to hear what a competent bike this can be in either role. It really seems like it could benefit from the bleeding edge technology that was present on my old '73 Suzuki TC-100.... It was a 4-speed, but had a High/Low range lever on the transmission case. It worked really well, and I'd love to have that on my KTM. Thank you for putting so much work and love into your productions. It really shows!
I bought a new 2021 Beta 390 RR Race based on this video. Was supposed to get it mid April, got it a month later ... without an exhaust pipe. Two months later ...still no exhaust. Plus the speedo doesn't work. I guess that's why it is called a Beta. Not ready for production.... no response from dealer, Canadian distributor or Beta Italy. Crickets.
Love that bike! I was lucky enough to ride a bunch of 2019 Betas at a factory test ride day, and the 500 RR surprised me. It was not on my serious list of models to focus on (Barry has me fixated on the Xtrainer!) but it was the overall best for me. It will be my next purchase. And then I'll be heading to Utah to do some riding with you!

A 500cc dual sport with a 6 spd should not require a regear when you pull off the trail onto the highway. Why can the manufacturers not figure this out?
I don't want to distract from the video (which turned out really great, btw. this Beta sounds seriously awesome from the way you describe it), but I just wanted to make the humble request that you do a video on the Kawasaki Super Sherpa if you get the opportunity. You're the source I trust the most on these things, so I'd really like to know what you think of the Sherpa.
From personal experience, too heavy and underpowered for its weight, nice on the street and suspension sucks on serious offroad situations. But it can be a good small adventure bike, still a honda and a reliable single cylinder motor. After 4yrs i sold it and bought a beta Alp200, totally different type but way more lighter , more ground clearance and lower seat, less power but not that bad for its weight.

What do you mean by "regear"? Pull apart the trans and put a new set of gears in with different ratios? Does anybody actually do that? I must be missing something. Fly down the highway at 80mph, stop by the side of the road and pull your trans apart, then hit the dirt!
You change the drive sprockets to ones with more or less teeth affect the gearing. This can require getting a longer chain or removing links from your stock chain.
@@MarylandWearAndCarry ..... ok, still not something you do on the fly. I'm familiar with sprocket changes, but would be suprised if that made the huge difference Tyler described.

When you say the suspensions were different, was that because they were just adjusted differently or that the springs had been changed?
Interesting that they call it a 500rr in america as for the rest of the world it's called a 480rr because it's 480cc

A 500cc dual sport with a 6 spd should not require a regear when you pull off the trail onto the highway. Why can the manufacturers not figure this out?
Agree 100%, 1st , 2nd & 3rd geared low...5th & 6th geared for lower rpm.
Or just add a 7th gear and make everyone happy.
Mitch and Cassie Shepherd - it can be easily done, remember the older Husky 8 speeds...
My Honda XL 650 sure didn't need a regear. .
Exactly! 1-5 geared low, 6th should be half or less rpm as 5th. Big overdrive.

I’d own a beta if there was a beta dealer within 150 miles of me.
I'm just starting to motovlog and i would like to know what frame rate you shoot in. Also do you shoot video in 4k then upload to 1080 or just shoot in 1080 and upload in 1080. Thanks again for any information and please keep you epic videos coming.
Beta 500 is a nice DIRT BIKE. Its not a dual sport just cause it comes plated!
@@paulschonschack3051 I definitely makes a huge difference but it takes some wrenching and you have to carry a spare sprocket.
5:41 he dropped something ...
Garrett, as in Pat Garrett is more like it. Remember this: HE is the one that shot Billy the Kid in the BACK = NOT TO BE TRUSTED! As the legend goes, he'll surely stab you too if he can get some SWAG out of it!
So you didn't like the bike...? Why bring up the KTM?
Like then watch the video
Nice...but it’s a pity your artsy fartsy professor didn’t also advise you to let sound also tell the story
