Congratulations on the bike! Those Betas are amazing machines. I’ve ridden the 500 a few times and it’s a blast, but I had the chance to ride the 390 recently and I really, really enjoyed it. I’m hoping to pick one up next year!
My choice was the 500 only because i wanted to do freeway speeds easily. I didnt want the motor to struggle on long trips. I have been enjoying it so far! Thanks for the comment!
@@RacerRed I have been torn between the 390 and the 500. I ride mostly in Utah with amazing single track and ample open areas. I love being able to ride longer sections and avoid highway as much as I can. I would rather sacrifice highway/long section comfort for better off road performance.
I would not put a high flow exhaust on it. They nailed the tuning. The bottom end and mid range are perfect and linear. With so much power on tap I would not take any hit to off idle ride-ability. The top end is plenty fat too. Seriously, let it break in and try to hit the rev limiter. Just stupid power up there. The exhaust breaks in too and sounds great without drawing unnecessary attention. Congrats.
Artful Alias too late, I put a FMF q4 on it. Runs great off idle now. Runs perfect throughout the rev range and without much more noise. Great bike so far!
I had to do a double take when I saw this video and the opening shot is in my hometown of Moscow haha! Really bummed that Revolution Motorsports closed down :(
Good review i was just at the shop looking at them, but really didnt like them not having a kickstart but thats sweet they can add one, ,and the steel gears is good info thanks 👍
gray 77 all of the high performance bikes are sold without a kickstarter now, unfortunately. The good news is you can have the dealer install one! Thanks for commenting!
Love the bike bro! Awesome choice. I would have ended up with a Beta if I didn't run into issues with my local dealer, had to go with a pumpkin. Congrats!
Lifeless pumpkins are awesome bikes too! Is your local dealer the same as mine?? I have heard many many horror stories about my local dealership. Everybody i have talked to has had a story.
I will admit the Huskies and the KTMs or plugged up from the factory. But it does not require a "couple of thousand dollars" to fix it. I would say easily less than $1,000. And it's not absolutely necessary to do anything at all either.
@@premixpeter1972 If i ever run this bike in a desert race it will most definitely be in the pro class :) I have considered it, but its way too shiny and new right now. The red looks sick!
@@RacerRed The only thing I changed was going to 48 to 50 on the rear sprocket. I had one heck of a flameout tumble on that same terrain you are riding. It is perfect now - the Beta lugs like a beast.
Jeff Loucks i really like the 390’s too! I have an awesome dual sport ride with a lot of great single track uploading right now. The Beta does great in a lot of conditions.
I've had the KTM 530 and 350exc....went back to a pure offroad bike thinking I would be riding nothing but singletrack but have found I'm missing the street legal aspect. So probably going back to an exc or rrs Beta. It will be for singletrack mostly tho so I'm leaning toward the 350 again. I sacrificed nothing on my 350exc offroad besides softer suspension for big hits. 350 has plenty of power and realistically wont see any long stretches of non dirt....I've got an 1190 for that😁. My current Yamaha 250FX has less power, and weighs about the same the street legal KTMs,only thing is its suspension is simply amazing. Average riders.....no matter how good they are will sacrifice nothing with these newer barely street legal bikes from KTM/Beta except for maybe racing Even then it's the rider....not the bike..
I'm 5'9'' and it feels a little tall. I would only lower it if they can do that without effecting the suspension. maybe look into different seat options.
Thanks for the video, Ive used KTM 500s(520, 525, 530, 500s) for a long time, it's good for Beta to offer some competition!! My newest Dual sport is a KTM 350(I;d like to ride a Beta 390), just for MPG, over 60 on trails!!, not sure what size tank to put on it(to make tour of Idaho easy!) I'm going to miss the torque. If you add a free flowing exhaust, what is needed to correct the lean part? Go Beta(Nephew has 300 Beta, its a wow machine.
I'm not entirely sure what is needed to correct the leaning out of the bikes, if anything. Normally a bikes fuel injection and compensate enough, but in some cases you need different injectors or even a new fuel map CPU. The Beta's don't need anything, though, as far as i know. I have seen a few of them with FMF exhausts without anything else done, and they run great. Definitely awesome bikes no matter if you get a ktm, husky, or beta!
@@RacerRed thanks for the reply. KTM is fully inguaged with the EPA, to fix lean costs $$, I'm hoping Beta has a different work around. My daughter is due for a new bike, and she likes Beta!!
Brad Lu no problem! Another great aspect of a Beta is that they are shorter than ktm/husky. They have a short version of each bike that doesnt mess with the suspension or handling. I think she would love a beta 390 if she wants a street legal bike that can hit single track!
Its a bit tall, but no taller than any other dirt bike. A lowering kit is available which reduces seat height by 2 inches without sacrificing suspension or anything! thanks man!
Im literally going through the same thing. Selling all my bikes, and trying to figure out if I want the 430 or 500.. LOL Few questions. All the bigger thumpers I have rode always feel like Fat pigs. Does it truly feel like a dirt bike? Would you attempt a hare scramble with it?
Gladius Jon well, it definitely wont feel like your CRF, but i would ride it in a desert race (probably not a harescramble). My Requirements for a bike were a little bit different than yours will be, probably. I just wanted something that would do freeway speeds easily (80mph) But would also be able to do singletrack. For you, I think a 390 would be the best purchase, in my opinion. A 390 would feel light, and would still be able to do most of the highway speeds in your area. I hope this helps!
3 hours is the first oil change. 30 hours after that each time. I never go by factory specs.. They are way too conservative and wasteful. I check valve clearance every so often and keep fresh oil in my bikes. They last forever.
May I give you some advice? No? Here it is anyway: don't smack your lips and sniffle on the mic so much because it sounds nasty, as if you were chewing on some very hot and tough pepper. Peace out.
Thanks! Actually I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary but the mic is right next to my face so it picks everything up! I have been working on ways to reduce that without sacrificing audio in the helmet too much.
Thanks! Where was the road portion with mountains filmed? That looked beautiful!

@@RacerRed Why would the 390 struggle at highway speeds vs the 500?
T.Jentzsch with stock gearing you wouldn’t notice, but if you increase top speed through taller gearing you will appreciate the 500 much more

T.Jentzsch I would probably get the 390 if I did it over. I would recommend the 390 for trail performance. The 500 feels like a fatty

Why the 500 over the 390 or 430?
Nameless it was mainly for extra power so I could gear it for highway travel. It’s also what my local shop had in stock.
Thanks for the review!
