@davomrmac I've just bought the Lumix G3 partly due to your excellent in depth review. Just thought I'd mention that I bought it from Best Buy, Thurrock and it turns out Best Buy is closing down its UK stores. As sad as that is, it does mean there is a sale on and I got the G3 for £387 new (£457 on Amazon). Thanks again. Ryan
@benny353 No, there will always be optical. I think we will see a better implementation of add-on viewfinders.
About the electronic viewfinder, you can make the quality better by rotating the little wheel near it, it for people with glasses so they will be able to use without glasses and change it.

I have this camera and it has worked really well for me so far. Great with a macro lens I got off Amazon for £7. the only issue I have with this camera is the jerky zoom. it is not smooth at all and is noticeable in video footage, it also gets quite stiff and the whole camera jerks when you adjust the zoom. The viewfinder is just fine and if you wear glasses you can take them off and adjust the screen to your eyesight with the scroll wheel on the side. Thought I would drop you guys a review as iv'e been using it for a year. Everything else about this camera is great though

Stunning looking camera, Full of the wonderful feature's to be expected from a camera of it's class. i was considering this about a week ago, but 2 thing's put me off getting it. one was the price of buying new lenses compared to the prices of DSLR lenses. The second was the frame rate on the HD video mode. I personally refuse to settle for anything that shoots this low on the video setting. Quite disappointing move from Panasonic. @jamesmichaelbailey Yes, not a lot of difference. Plus you can always search ebay for non-Panasonic m43 lenses. Also, if you do buy from Amazon it would be great if you could use my referral link amzn.to / dmc-g3-blk (remove the spaces)

I'm gonna buy this camera, and I like the pancake lens which is a lot more compact than the 14-42mm in the video. Do you think that 14mm pancake lens alone is enough for a beginner? I want to save some money.
Hi, I have just purchased from ebay a hardly used G3, no box, cables or vids, just battery and charger. I have only ever used a lumix dmc-fx50 point and shoot, I think I need an idiots guide for the g3 have you any suggestions, thanks

Hi, nice reviews. I have noticed with this cam on most of the youtube reviews and web reviews that the contrast seems very high in pics and vids, is this adjustable within the menus? Also does anyone know if you can fit Nikon dx lenses with the many 4/3 adapters out there? Dont really understand what lenses will work with this camera.

i got it cheap on eBay and im really surprised it actually is working.... and i wanna adapt manual lenses. I found the magnification option, got firmware version 1.2 Is there any focus peaking option to be found ? :(

Do you ever see electronic view finders replacing traditional DSLR system? As a keen photographer I can't get my head around not putting my camera up to my eye to compose a shot. In your review it sounds like the G3 viewfinder is a bit lacking in that respect. Why then would you compromise with a bulky camera that you can't pocket but don't have the freedom of using a reliable viewfinder? I'm not sure what the market is for for these cameras. Perhaps you can address this issue in a Q&A vid?!

Thanks for that in-depth review of the cameras features. There were a few things putting me off from buying it, but you've cleared those up! I'm glad that actually, you have the CHOICE of using the touchscreen or buttons, what a cool feature! I'm a complete novice at photography, but I'm keen to finally buy my first camera! And I think this is it!
I suppose I could have gone with a Nikon Coolpix S9500 or something typical, but after having used a DSLR as part of my course, it has convinced me to buy something similar. However, being small and for the purpose mostly intended, I need something that isn't as bulky to carry around, or as heavy to hold. Yet still capturing high quality photos, and the ability to change the various settings is definitely important. I think the 'quick to focus' and 360 degree rotatable screen is a huge bonus when using the camera for out-and-about photos.
The only thing I'm still wondering is, what is this camera like for macro shots? Also could you shed some light on the 'only buy Nikon or Canon cameras'? Because I've come across great reviews for cameras that weren't either brands, so I don't understand why most people share this view.

Hi, just picked up a mint condition G3 for peanuts. I’m having trouble working out how to get the display to show me what the photo will look like before I take it. At the moment the screen looks bright but the picture I take is dark.

The focussing and user interface is nice, but amateurs wanting it would probably want a (decent) viewfinder.

Yes it does have autofocus. I think that a Panasonic G7 would be a better choice.
Thank you for this review! Do you know how to get live HDMI from it so I can use it as a Webcam? I already have a capture card and the Mini HDMI to HDMI cable. I also downloaded OBS. But when I try to use it, I get those vertical color bars. I've been trying to figure this out for weeks now. Any help would be appreciated!!

Hey, this camera doesn't support the live output via HDMI, the hdmi on the camera is used for playback (such as images or videos)

You can use the G3 as a webcam however. You need to run the AV cord to a AV to HDMI card and then run the HDMI card into the 4K capture card .
It works like a champ. I use it all the time.
It does not do 1080p it does 1080i video just for your info
Tech Checker I think you'll find it does 1080i at 60fps " that's field's per second" off of a 30 frames per second sensor.
Therefore it'll do 1080p at 30 "fps" or 25/24 frames per second at 1080p

Just picked one up (2012 Olympics edition, looks new its that clean!) with a lens (14-42mm) from a friend for £80! Can't complain at all, its a great tiny camera!. I was shooting on Sony Full frame until a few months ago when I sold it (funding a new hobby) and I have always been intrigued by M43 cameras. I think for the price I paid, its a fantastic way to step into it.
Now I want to get a Macro lens, maybe the Oly 60mm or possibly the Laowa 50mm, do you have experience with either of those lenses?
That is a bargain, congrats. I have used the Oly Macro and was impressed with the detail.
@@geekanoids I ended up with a 7artisan one. My local used electronics shop had one and I exchanged an old item I don’t use anymore, only had to pay the remaining £8 😁. Double bargains!

You dont need a black and white mode and you dont need filters. You will have to do both in post. Because with inbuilt filters youre photos will look horrible.

If you can find one it’s a good camera.
You may want to buy a G7 or G85 instead .
The G7 is a little newer has a few more features and is currently under $500 new

Is it good for macro shots?
Pretty good with a macro lens.
its neither.....its a micro 4/3rds camera.....they take a DSLR, take out the mirror and the prism, so the body is a lot smaller. it also means the lenses are smaller as well.

AF is not good enough for vlogging in my opinion.
it has the best microphone in any camera i used.for me that's enough.records good video and makes the sharpest images even my high end canon cant beat

The idea for selling purposes was m4/3 designed to be small and compact with lighter lenese.
Truth is the lighter lenese that are cheaper to make are often more expensive that the equivalent apsc lenses.
The bodies are more expensive that many medium level dslr's yet cost less to make.
So less will cost you more.
Most things must be made at a cost point for the end customer, just like cars.
Same body with an old tractor turbo diesel engine or a real reliable ultra smooth 3 litre straight 6 petrol engine.
For some they'll always pay more for the very best whilst others will take a comprise over price.
The biggest selling camera lines are often the lowest priced ones.
E.g. if they made this will the latest processor, highest quality evf and constant f.2.8 lens, the price would be doubled or more.
So they add these features into the £1000 plus camera's.
Enthusiasts still use these cameras with software hacks to run 1080p with upto 49mp bps and they run fine.
Manufactures sometimes slow down performance to make the product last longer or to allow then to sell a faster model at a higher price that uses 90% of the same tech found in model's made 4 or 5 years previously.
This is to push the high end market, often used by pros or people with money to burn or who just want the latest device for bragging rights, they don't mind dropping 2 grand for the latest model even if the difference between it and the previous is minimal.

It's all relative, depends on what you want to use it for. The m100 is a great camera for photo and video. The G3 is micro43 sensor, so maybe not as good in low light.
