    I also opened up the carbs checked/cleaned my jetting changed the float needles and set the TPS something I didn't know how to do a week ago so thanks in particular for the VTR stuff you have done it's really helpful.

    Just found your channel. Great vids. No music. Nice and calm. Love it.
    Just purchased a 98 and am going to watch all your vids. Question. Bike seems to run at half power. If a vent gasket were to be partially closed... could that lead to a bike running, but in a lean condition this losing power across the entire rev band? I have spark on both cylinders... just not full power. Thoughts?
    Thanks. Gonna subscribe. Your content is fantastic. Love your style!

      Hello Peter thank you for your time ...well it is hard to diagnose a problem without seeing it but I think I understand what you mean ...it is possible that uts fuel related ....can you send me a video of it running on Instagram? ... does it rev all the way up from idle on the side stand but not when riding? To start with I would give it a full service and inspect the vacume hose that goes from the fuel valve to the rear cylinder..... or you may have the faulty fuel cap

    Hi there! Great video. It helped me a lot with rebuilding mine. I took mine apart because my Petcock was leaking from the air vent on the bottom. Took it apart and the old rubbers didn’t have any damages. Could you maybe tell me why/how the fuel comes out of the bottom air vent. Could this be because of a cold start with choke where it might got to much fuel or so? Does it disappear when driving a bit, because I didn’t do that, but it leaked a lot and especially when I started the bike. I would love to hear from you and ofcourse to see more content.

    • @PXCBIKES
      @PXCBIKES  2 года назад

      Could you send me some pictures via Instagram?... There should e be any fuel leaking out of the petcock there may be a diaphram leak.... What happens is the pipe from the erear cylinder head connects to the vacuum port on the rear of the petcock.... When the engine is turned over or running the vacuum from the cylinders pull the valve open allowing furl to flow through... There will also be a vacuum relief valve too that allows the diaphram to close when the engine is shutdown to stop the fuel flowing this will appear like a hole.... But there should be no fuel coming out of that fuel should not get past the diaphram

      I have a 04 MY VTR with under 10k miles. It wasn’t getting ridden much and it also started to leak from the bottom vent pipe. I suspect that the rubber seal was leaking. I’ve rebuilt it and now it’s off to the carbs!

    hello I watched your video carefully and I wonder but the white plastic disc shouldn't it be mounted upside down with the centering for the spring? I'm waiting for your answer. and maybe if you know what I can replace it with because I can't find the white plastic disc on the market. Thank you

    Awesome, video! This will be very handy when I get my rebuild kit.
    One thing stumping me before I even get to the rebuild is how to actually remove the petcock from the tank. On my Hawk, at least, there is a tube connected to the petcock that goes into the tank. How does the petcock come off that tube? Is it just a matter of pulling it off? Thanks in advance.

    • @PXCBIKES
      @PXCBIKES  2 года назад +2

      Yes just gently work it out... The tube is a fuel filter and it is a tight fit but it will go I was going to drill the hole out just a little so it fits back in easy... But it will go back in 👍

      @johnchapdelaine7610 2 года назад +1

      @@PXCBIKES Hey, thanks for responding so quickly! So is the tight fit getting the filter out of the tank? This is my first time ever working on anything more complicated than an oil change.

    • @PXCBIKES

      Well everything I learned is all self taught.... ✌️ I just say "its only an engine" everything is replaceable..... I started working on bikes back in 1993 and for 15 years on I never had a bike that worked at all so had to figure everything out.... @@PXCBIKES Maybe I should get with the times and get on Instagram.
      Meanwhile, though, is it the fuel filter that comes out of the tank or do I take the petcock off the fuel filter?

    • @PXCBIKES
      @PXCBIKES  2 года назад +1

      It depends on what comes off first.... You can replace the little filter... I just pulled and twisted it but becarefull not to tear it.... It can take a bit of force I think they swell eventually after being in the tank for sometime... I pulled it out enough to grab the plastic part of the filter in the middle and pulled it out then the same to I stall it

    As a new Superhawk owner, your videos are incredibly informative. My 2001 runs great except when starting it cold. It takes several tries with the starter before it fires a few times, then several more tries to get it running. I’ve tried all combinations of choke and throttle, but nothing seems to help. After warming up for a minute it runs flawlessly. Any ideas what the issue could be? The starter sounds strong and the battery is new and always charged up, so I don’t think they’re the culprit. I’m about to go through a bunch of things on the bike, but I’m curious what your thoughts might be.

    • @PXCBIKES
      @PXCBIKES  2 года назад +2

      Oh what is the idle speed when it is running....?. If the idle speed is set too low it will be hard to start when cold you can try turning the idle speed in maybe two turns with engine cold.. Then give it a fire up with the choke out.. Then if it starts it will idle high just turn it out slowly until the idle settles to 1400 - 1500 rpm you will have to finally tune this when the bike is up to full operating temperature...
      If this does not work then your pilot jets maybe clogged or the choke ports may need cleaning...
      It is a little hard to diagnose a problem without being with the bike but give these tips a try 👍

    • @benzeneAndCordite
      @benzeneAndCordite 2 года назад +1

      I’d say the idle once it’s fully warmed up is around 1000-1100 RPM. Does that sound low to you?

    • @PXCBIKES
      @PXCBIKES  2 года назад +2

      Yes it is low.... Turn the idle screw in one or two turns.. It will idle high but just fine tune it when it's started... Let the bike run for a minute or so with the choke on and slowly ease it off

    • @benzeneAndCordite
      @benzeneAndCordite 2 года назад +1

      I spent a lot of time cleaning and tuning the carb, but I think it’s the valves. I checked clearances and the front exhausts were .23 (spec is .31), and a rear intake was .1 (spec is .16). Have you had a look at your valves or replaced the tensioners yet? My bike only has 10k miles so I’m surprised it’s already drifted so far.

    • @PXCBIKES
      @PXCBIKES  2 года назад +1

      . 1mm or 0.10mm?... If it is 0.1mm then that is very tight there maybe a worn valve there but it will adjust with a re-shim..... I usually remove the shim and sand it down on 800grit paper if you don't have the correct shims to hand and if it ain't much to adjust but 0.1mm will be a new shim for sure ... I then check them with a micrometer etc that way I can get them all the same clearence.... It shouldn't be that worn at 10k but it's not impossible... My ducati 1198 had 12k on it when I got it and the clearence were so bad and tight I had to do them all It depends on If the bike has had a hard life or not.... The clearence on mine were all I. Spec and I have not done the tensioners

    • @PXCBIKES
      @PXCBIKES  2 года назад +1

      You don't really need the vuel valve or the VTR tank as long as there is fuel flowing to the carbs... There isn't a fuel pump on the VTR it's just a valve with a vacuum bladder in the fuel tap...
