Thanks, four suits is challenging. When I started playing this in 2008 it took me over a hundred tries before I figured out how to solve my first game😁. Good luck!👍
My suggestion for viewers is to play the game in Easy Mode (1 suit) first in order to learn the basics of the game, then play it in Medium Mode (2 suits) before attempting to play Hard Mode (4 suits). I used your tips and they helped me collect two wins within the same calendar year.
@@HopkinsTheMovie that would be interesting. Here is a link to everything I have with four suits: Spider solitaire tips and gameplay: ruclips.net/p/PLu0rC09yug3Z5CiOzubH0k45gRWVUcGYu
@@garydevries5961 With 8 suits, interchanging is impossible as there is only one copy of each card. In real life, that would be played with two different decks.
@@HopkinsTheMovie Thanks. It depends on the composition of the deck. It would definitely be much more difficult to solve with eight suits. Typically, the goal is to try to get two to three open columns and then use that space to interchange the cards and consolidate to each of the suits. That being said some setups are impossible to solve.

I have not watched the video yet because, like you, I am trying to develop my own strategies before completely committing to seeing what other people do. Part of the fun is the development of solutions for me. That being said, this looks like the best how-to spider solitaire video I have found so far, so thanks for the upload! I just have one question: Do you frequently use the undo command when you play, or do you try to play without it? I have been skipping through the video without sound to avoid "spoilers" but I did unmute it when you talked about using undo. I use it a lot. The frequency with which I use it makes it feel a little cheap some times, so I was just wondering if you use it much, or if the amount you use it has changed as you have improved, or basically what your thoughts are on it in general. I would love to be able to play this game without the undo button (or at least limit its use), but given the complex nature of 4-suit solitaire (at least compared to standard solitaire), I don't even know if that is feasible, or just a pipe dream. I'm sure I could answer my own question by watching the whole video, but ironically I don't have the attention span to watch the whole thing while muted :P
I have done well on one suit and two suit and even thee suit a couple time. However 4 suits has been very difficult. I just haven't been able to conquer 4 suits. I understand trying to clear up columns to have space; it just never seems to work out for me. This video has been easier to watch but still to fast for me to follow. I've watched others and it goes so fast. The pause button help a little but still difficult to follow. I think like the 1,2,3 suits it is best to have columns of same suit but in 4 it doesn't always works like this video showed but still I don't know when to not keep the same suits in same column.
Basically one wants to try to open up as many columns as possible even if it's only one. Then, one has space (the more space or columns open the better) to try to consolidate and get the same suits in a pile. From there it's just lots of consolidation and trying to keep space open to be able to make more moves. It took me over a hundred tries before I was able to solve my first game. As for how fast the video goes it is possible to slow it down on a cell phone by clicking on the top right hand corner and changing the playback speed to either 0.75 or .50. Thanks and good luck!
@@garydevries5961 Thanks SO Much for replying. What do you do when you get a hand that in the first round has absolutely no possibilities to move any of the cards. It does happen! is it worth just forgetting it and trying another hand? I try to go on, but just doesn't seem to work. Also sometimes I get lots of kings and jacks or queens in the first round. Sometimes there are three of a kind like thee kings or four jacks. It just seems I am already behind with that scenario and it is so difficult in subsequent hands to free up a column. Or sometimes I get the picture cards after I've made some progress in the next few rounds and then I'm stuck. Maybe there is no away around these situations? And sometimes I get hands where I cannot move cards around to free up a column, try as I might. I guess that is being stuck!! Do you keep going or do you always find a way to figure it out if these situations that happens to you??
@@ellenslerner255 Most of the time one is not going to be able to move cards around. The trick is to try to figure out ways to create space and not get buried. On the newer windows version, which allows one to go back to the previous card round I can solve about 50%, so that means many of games are not solvable. On the older version shown in the video my percentage was around 20% because one was not allowed to go back to the previous round which made it even more difficult. The trick is to try to create space which is not always possible.
@@garydevries5961 I am still trying and so far no success. I understand the goal of making space, but just have yet to achieve that. When I do on occasion make space, I am unable to move most any other cards that will make a difference. Maybe one of these days but I'll probably go back a notch to do less suits.

Yesh. I have this game on Windows 7. I tried several times to beat hardest difficulty (four suits), but with no avail. Computer always gives me dubious combinations and due to this, I wasn't able to sort cards (of any suit) in order: K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and A. Very hard. So I'm forced to play on beginner difficulty.
