FYI in the Chinese stellaris community Grey is considered the “official” anime waifu of the game, and a mod that turns grey into an anime girl is highly popular
Aha you learn something everyday :)
Well there are tons of mods that add in anime waifus and furry species portraits
Grey is one of the best, worthy of waifu status.
I like the viewpoint you chose, that depending on how long ago the Grey Tempest went rogue, you may find them still active, or you may find them as L-drakes, or after they’ve given up and chosen to relent in their campaign of consumption, you find Grey. Kinda like the replicators on Asgard in SG-1
Yeah it's a really well written event that the situations you get all tie together... the L-drakes is the only one that isn't quite clear where in the timeline they fit but Grey eludes to trying different shapes and sizes, so i figured it was inbetween!
How about the empty system though ?
@@meneither3834 farther future, when Grey has decayed too. You can see the trend is a decreasing mass of functioning nanites. They clearly have a half life and become inert or lose power over time
@@TheRedKing I’d say the L drakes are in between the imitation of the dessanu consonance and grey as grey says that he can longer become multiple ships/forms at once indicating that he(the nanites)decayed over time and considering the imitation of their former overlords containing every little detail of citizens and ships that implies that it was the first thing they did before then becoming the L drakes as there are only 6(I think)of them meaning that the nanites still had the capacity to take multiple forms but could neither be extremely big or in extreme numbers. This then brings us back to grey as as he can only take 1 form at a time which shows us that most of the nanites have decayed and that a large amount of time has passed this is directly before the empty system outcome.
Also Damn that was one hell of a paragraph. Also Also, I forgot to add that the grey tempest is at the front of the timeline meaning the dessanu consanance was the second thing they did.
@@TheRedKing I think the L drakes are part of the nanite evolution. They are basically bacteria in the beginning, but eventually coalesce into animalistic drakes, and soon evolve into sentient beings
"It's outside our galaxy morty, a whole race of nanomachines who tried to devour the galaxy! think about it morty! and this happened in all the infinite universes too! even the chair dimension!"
Hilarious I read that in Rick's voice 😅😅
"Everyone knows the correct phrase is I have a headache" that had me howling X'D
Good - it almost got cut! 😂
Gotta love when the AI opens up the L Cluster and it shafts you for about 100 years 😂
Grey Tempest pops out to say hello ... 😅
The moment I get informed someone gets close to opening I may rush opening it myself
@@letsplaysvonaja1714 I had an empire bordering me go for, so I waged a war of extermination against them but was too slow and they still opened it. Fucked myself by spreading my fleets thin amd not near the gates.
Everytime i find a gate i build a maxed out starbase with lots of defense towers and ion cannons this one base will be a minimum of 400k fleet strength and when we get attacked it keeps everything at bay
(I open lgates)
(Gray tempest and genocidal empire destroys me until the federation that is near me saves my life)
Probably some fallen empire built them at some point, at strategic points, the rests being covered by hyper relays, , which needing more care, have been so severely depleted that they crumbled very long ago or have been scrapped by marauder empires. Gateways on the other hand, as a feat of technology that advanced stroke fear in space fearing scrappers. The fact you can repair them so easily is because they're not that deprecated. And their inner tech makes them impossible to destroy.
The Desenu isn't a fallen empire they are a precursor empire although younger than the first precursor empires the level of technology is way beyond any Precursor or FE technology it may be superior to the Unbidden but like all creator and created the created always rebels and kill its own creators.
I thought when ever i see them bunched up its almost like a center of what used to be a heavy trafficked area with the relays like a highway of sorts that lead to its hearts. While the other much more distant gates or L’s being possible other small sections of that said empire
Two things:
1. The curator order claims the gates has existed since before sll known species.
2. There is an event tells the story of a species that was obsessed with activating the gates but failing, which means the reasson no pne uses them is that no one has yet to activate them.
one thing to note, there are a few events and systems where you can still get nanites, meaning the recall wasn't entierly sucessfull.
it's also pretty cool that the system in wich the scrapper bot spawns has a deposit of nanites, I do love how this details shows us that given enough time, the nanites can reactivate independently.
The bot itself even uses nanites.
Thank you for all the Stargate references!
Can never have enough Stargate :)
Tec ma tae
Oh yeah I remember this episode of Stargate! The nanites becoming people over billions of years was a twist and it made for a good story i thought.
Well read and acted, thank you for the wonderful videos! I love them!
Thanks Benjamin! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Replicators are scary, human-form replicators are even more so…. 😂
It was informative and enjoyable. Tbh, it's an interesting thing that normal gateways must be constructed outside stars gravity well, but L-gates must be constructed close to black hole "for energy". It sounds like local spacetime curvature is a big factor when comes to using them. For in galaxy travel, they must be in "neutral" space that is curved only by galactic core and dark matter. But for extragalactic links, like to L-cluster, gateways need other type of spacetime curvature calibration - from black holes which have similar gravitational mass and produce similar curvatures. Although, it's only a hypothesis, from one observation.
Nonetheless, if my hypothesis is true I can answer the question stated in the video: it should be possible to create a new web of gateways disconnected from the rest, just by adjusting their constants for spacetime curvature calibration to specific gravitational wells. I propose Neutron Stars for first tests - even if they are quite unwelcoming stellar bodies, finding at least two with similar gravitational wells should be simple, as gravitational mass range for them is smaller than the range for black holes.
Get this to the devs
@@cosmictreason2242 Oh, from gameplay standpoint this is instant-reject idea. It not deapens existing mechanics nor creates a new one, so it's not enough for a meningfull feature.
But it is a good motive for some late game crazy-scientist event.
@@vainthatoneoverhere hear me out. Stargates as planet structures which allow pops to move between planets and also armies
Could make for a really cool event - a situation of magnificent undertaking! Other situations around the gate network could be really fun actually, if you've ever watched Stargate theres so many options! A virus shutting down the gate network would be fun :) Good to see you as always Vain!
@@TheRedKing a race of slaving despots who are all brain slug hosts and who come through the stargate and declare war on you if you decline to make them your overlord. Call themselves the Gwahul or something. Their ship design features pyramids
Huh didn’t realise that the L cluster outcomes were a timeline of sorts
Yeah! Its a really well written storyline, Devs did great work with it :)
tbh what you get the most often is: grey tempest, empty cluster, grey and the drakes
That shot at 10:56 made me think of if gateways could work as a sort of Panama canal limiting the maximum size of ships so that they'd be able to use gateways
Your channel is so underrated I love the way you make the scripts for your videos
Glad you like them :) thanks for letting me know!!
Every single one of your video is like a lore video for your Stellaris universe, and I like it.
Thanks glad to hear it :)
Can you do one on the Fallen Empires and why they seemingly stopped developing Dark Matter technology after their Deflectors, Power and Thrusters?
I could try, but i'd be making it all up 😅

My first and only time messing around with L gates was early on in the game and we got wiped out. I left the game run over night and when I woke up they killed the entire galaxy. A few games later i was playing and got a notification that a neighboring empire was messing around with them. I boned up and as they got wiped out I laughed behind my many fortresses
I was wondering which Grey Tempets story will you pick :D
Had to go with Grey to get the whole story in I think, otherwise it would be hard to explain the rest of the timeline
I wish Devs would add gate hacking as a game mechanic
Could be fun!!
Has anyone noticed that the Terminal Egress system is set up to look exactly like a ruined Sol system?
Another great video my guy keep up the great work!
Thanks! Will do! Appreciate the support :)
Holy Cows! I have been binge watching these. Listening actually, at work. But thank you!
Glad you like them; hope it made work go that much quicker :)
I listen too! 😊
It doesn't matter when or who built them in the past for I have built yet another one, and will continue to do so till the end of our empire.
everybody gangsta till the other palyer starts to rearange the hyperlane network.
the real question is why hasnt every star system had a gateway built already by previous empires and when will we finish doing just that.
Good point. But no one ever talks about the hyperplane network. What exactly is it? Is it a tunnel in space?
It's funny you mentioned it as I want to look into it - I have no idea what it is, how it works, or who built it - as i'm assuming something must have?
@@TheRedKing could also be natural, or a space with virtually no matter... but if its built its definitely the latter as there are no gates, no structures, no nothing that kickstarts the process of entering the hyperlane... so it must be installed on ship, not on site making it imperative, even with good or the best shielding, to remove any matter, any energy even virtual particles form these regions of space
Hyperlanes, I think they are like the ones in Star Wars? Just naturally occurring ebs in gravity.
The only difference is we can’t spend tons of credits to chart through unknown safe ways.
@@Darkn3ssF4ll The issue with naturally forming hyperlanes is that there is no science behind them unlike with wormholes. So I hope that Stellaris somedays discusses who built them or at least how they were discover and what are they made of.
Yeah this basically; the way it's explained in Star Wars is that people have to map them out ... but i've not looked into it in any great detail... They jet about at warp all the time in star trek and its not a problem.. ?
3:48 e3po would be happy
Yes he would :)
Red: "who made the gateways?" It was me and I want them back plz. No? Ok
*declares total war*
*brings in 4 million fleet*
I wouldn't want to go through one of these gates as imo it seems that doing so would result in ones death, after all the matter itself isn't sent, just information? Kinda of makes me think of the 2nd avatar movie where they printed copied memories of those marines into avatar bodies.
Your videos have made me wanna put down CK2 and pick up stellaris lmao keep it up dude
Glad to hear it Gareth :) Happy Empire building
I played the elder scrolls mod for ck3 and conquer tamriel and then I use a hoi4 mod for elder scrolls and eventually you have a dunmeri space empire in stellaris with the living god vivec as leader
Awesome video series! Where do get your more cinematic space battle clips from?? I only ever see top-down shots in-game
Thanks Steven, they're taken from the games trailers
@@TheRedKing damn, I was hoping there was some secret new "cinematic mode" in the game or something 😂. Anyway, definitely subscribing! Thanks for what you do
Informative and enjoyable indeed!
Thanks Kim - good to see you, glad you enjoyed it :)
The outcome depends on *when* the nanites went rogue and BTFOd the real Dassanu.
Tempest = Only killed the Dassanu a few millennia or even centuries ago, and still exist in their original form as the “opening crisis” that turns populated planets into balls of soup
Fake Dassanu- Had time (a few hundred-thousand or million years, after the Irassians were alive) to think about what they did, and cope with their regrets by trying to create a simulation of their planets as they originally were, as well as their civilization and space-nation.
Gray- Starting to degrade; eventually consolidates into one mass. Extremely bored due to being the only sapient thing left in the L-cluster for millions of years, with nothing new left to explore for MILLIONS OF YEARS, so bored that as soon as you show up he immediately swears loyalty to your empire for 5000 years (a mere blink to him even though you’ll be at best a fallen empire by then) just because it gives him something *new* to do
L-Drakes: Nanites almost completely degraded; the real Dassanu were eradicated only a couple million years after the Vultaum broke the fourth wall and committed self-genocide. To preserve himself, Gray turns the nanites into large, peaceful space fauna as the perfect redemption arc for himself; *creating* life instead of tearing its molecules carbon group from carbon group.

Everyone knows the correct term is...I have a headache 😂
"i have a headache" 🤣
It's universal right? 😅
Wait, didn’t the curators say the L-gates predate all the empires they know of? How are they so new?
Maybe in this universe the humans dont like working with the curators so they never got that information from them and are left to speculate as to it's age, and if the gate is left in a maintenance cycle maybe it continually repairs so well that it's impossible to physically date it.
Curators never opened the gates to meet the DC and as such they don't know the answers? Maybe.. but the Grey is pretty clear that the DC built them, and uses several millenia rather than millions of years so they must be relatively new
@@TheRedKing "several millenia" I see what you mean, but doesn't Grey's concept of time totally dwarf a humans? so maybe Grey's "several" is actually millions?
No, this is all wrong. It was Sir Ruppert Gatewayington.
