To all my Jamaicans and West Indians, this channel needs at least 1 million subscribers. This is our history as black people, Chinese people, and other ethnicities that make Jamaica so unique. Out of many, we are ONE people
@veer-ps4nv No, very different experiences. Please don't box us in as one. We are Jamaicans with history that's very unique to any other black group in diaspora. Thank you!
@voxbox9062 if you thought that I was trying to suggest that the Black American experience was one on in the same as the Jamaican, is a laughable assumption on your part. I was only commenting on the fact that our diaspora started out the same way., through slavery. . And I was only expressing my solidarity, because we have basically the same DNA, our ancestors shared the same employment plan, European enslavement ; but you went all Stockholm syndrome ; started acting like you're British enslavers ; coming at me all negatively, judging yourself better than my people. Crazy work 😅 😅 😅 But to keep things in context there are 50 million of us, and only 3 million of you in Jamaica, there are more Jamaicans in New York City then live on the island of Jamaica. Therefore, it is the reason why your people try to join our experience, partaking in our culture, enjoying the fruits of our fight for equality, which enables you to come to America for the employment and educational opportunities that you never got in Jamaica. Stop being presumptive , thinking your s*** don't stink, Britain didn't release you from slavery until 1962. Jamaicans definitely punch above their weight, what in the world wide concepts all punches even bigger. I show solidarity and love for all the descendants of African slaves in the entire Western hemisphere. You took a kind gesture and turned it into something that it wasn't, that was very British of you
@veer-ps4nv Firstly, why are you commenting on a video of a group of black people you are not associated with culturally? Why do you Tariq Nasheed fanatics feel the need to do that? You don't have a culture technically as it pertains to family, upbringing, two parent households, language, food, customs, and traditions. Musically, that's the only thing you can hold onto. That's it!! Nappy head Nasheed has done diabolical work convincing you that hip hop is strictly black American, meanwhile some of the most legendary hip hop artists have Jamaican or carribbean roots. Please stop commenting on this video. This is not your lane.
For over a century some countries comprising the Caribbean have been home to Chinese, Indian, Syrian, and Lebanese ppl who came through wither indentured servitude or trade. This is wonderful and important history for us in the Caribbean. Thank you for sharing.
This lady Marie is beautiful with a lot of history. She has good memories of her childhood years and her parents, she was a strong child and her strength continues throughout the years. She is full of wisdom and is able to share it with her children and grandchildren. She is very blessed! ❤🎉😅
When I look at the soldier, I can see the Chinese heritage on his face--thank you for your service. This experience must've have been so tramatizing for young Aunt Marie. So good to see her strength inspite of that experience and the keeper and teller of that of history

Amazing story, great interview, sharp 96-year-old. Similar roots with the same last name- Chung, but my deceased parents were from Guyana. I wish I could find some relative to tell me more about my Chinese roots.
Wonderful video love hearing chinese jamaicans talk beautiful family and what a magical moment talking about their deceased brother who help d her uncle when he pass it must of give their great aunt so much comfort to hear her brothers spirit was at peace and him helping his sibling to crossover amazing ❤❤❤

My grandmother was from Martinique and met my grandfather in Panama. He sent his first born son, my father, born in Panama to China and a few years later he took the rest of the family , my grandmother who didn’t speak Chinese and the four siblings. My grandfather left my grandma in China and went back to Panama. My grandmother passed away when my dad was twelve years old during the Second World War in China. My father and the rest of the siblings went back to Panama when they turned 18 and after the war was over. A lot of trauma and we suffered thanks to my grandfather.
I can relate to her story of the nine days. My mother came to me in a “dream” and I said, Mommy they let you out of the hospital early?” I was puzzled, yet , happy. When I woke up in the morning I received a call from the hospital sayong my mom had just passed. I believe they said at 9am- I have to check her death certificate. I was born in my grandmother’s home in N.C. and my mother has always said it was at 9am. Powerful story of Aunt Marie. May We All realize Our connection and divinity. ❤
Wow 😮. When she said Harry was one of her brothers I almost choked on the tea I was drinking. She could, quite possibly, be my Uncle Harold’s sister. I never knew much about his side of the family but now I am interested in learning more. Thanks Ms. Rosie for your great content.

What an amazing lady. Her age and memory is great at her age. I wonder what makes a Chinese person in that time choose a tiny island in the west indies to go to ? I would have thought the more well known western countries would be first on the list. Interesting. 🤔
Answer is British colonial rule. In 1834 or when slavery was was being abolished in the English speaking West Indian Islands, Chinese and Indian migrant workers were shipped in.
@clivehewitt9881 I see, thanks. Though, she didn't come over like that. Maybe her husbands family did? I guess my question applies more to those who came of their own accord, not during the slavery times. Here in Australia, we had a huge influx of Chinese, mostly during the Gold Rush era.
@@lusimyerThey came because they saw the potential to buidig and selling goods in their stores. They were originally indentured seranrs just like the Undians, cheap labour because they were poor back in their own country.
