  • @henriettaskolnick4445
    @henriettaskolnick4445 Год назад +60

    This song has a very lush guitar sound. Jimmy was always keen to expand and explore examples of what he called his "guitar army". It's working title was "Many, Many Times" and it's an intoxicating mix of acoustic, 6-string, and 12-string guitars and, if you listen, the acoustic plays underneath the entire piece, even after the electric comes in and Jonesy's bass bumps keep it rollicking along. The title has a hint of Tolkien about it since it's also the name of a poem he wrote. The outro was the echo of Jimmy's guitar and a clavinet played by Jonesy. It adds a wonderful, subtle, dream-like ending to a fairy-kissed song.

    Great reaction gents ! Jimmy Page started out with a six string acoustic guitar, then you heard the guitar become richer and fuller sounding at the 46 second mark - Jimmy introduced the 12 string acoustic guitar and mimicks what the six string acoustic is doing.
    Then the Led Zeppelin thunderous take off ! The electric six string guitar kicks in and the acoustic guitars are still going.
    There are no mandolin and he's not playing the double neck 🙂
    You hear Jimmy's guitar solo - he starts out on the high notes -- he starts mid range and then goes down in those lower thicker strings - for this solo and then all over the place. Jimmy loves to get down into those lower register notes on his solos. Many guitarists don't do that.
    There's a false ending - when the music drops out -- you hear John Paul Jones playing the clavinet - it's an older piano type instrument. Then you hear Page come with a pedal steel guitar -- those sliding notes in the outro accompanying Jones along w the clavinet.
    Plant's voice is awesome and Bonzo's drum are killer.
    The production, sounds and songs by Led Zeppelin from any of their albums - is spot on and could fit in - as just as good and in many cases better than many records and songs nowadays. Love your reactions guys.
    PS: This was my first full Led Zeppelin record which I heard in full in my teens. I was blown away by it. The diversity on this album is unbelievable.

There was a very young boy in there playing around on several acoustic guitars, looked to be a pre-teen as we were all teenagers and he was much younger than us. He started playing this and smoked up the room. He never missed a lick. Caused Mark and Phil to slip into depression mode 😆 Yeah, that kid was THAT GOOD. When I was younger listening to the song I always thought the ending was a guitar. But it's actually JPJ on the harpsichord. Still sounds like a guitar to me especially at the very end. But now of course I can hear the harpsichord the whole time.

      Don't worry -- they are doing all the albums in order -- so your pick will be here 'shortly' (after PG).
      Regardless, Presence is over the hills and far away a better album than Presents -- that's the one I'm looking forward to . . . . . :-)

    hey from the uk guys, really enjoying your journey with zepp. growing up my mother mostly listened to stuff like barry manilo!!!!, but i found a radio station that played blues and rock ( probably around 12-3). It wasn't till later (15-16) i got into zepp and you can really hear them great blues men in these great musicians. been a fan for many many years now and your right everytime you pick out something different in the songs/masterpieces :)

    Zep never, ever gets old! This is one of my top faves by them, and Imma Zep Head. In live performances after the line "I live for my dreams and a pocket full of gold" Plant always added "Acapulco gold!". They weren't a band, they were magic!

    Back in the day my friends and I used to hang out at a local recreation/game room. It had pinball machines, pool table, and a juke box. Back then the juke box would give you 3 songs for a quarter. We used to put in a quarter and play this song three times. This album (Houses of the Holy) was my introduction to Led Zeppelin.
