I claim that Uli and Ritchie Blackmore are the Godfathers of Shred! Alex Lifeson also might fit into that mould about 7 minutes into "The Necromancer" from Rush's Caress of Steel album.
It's amazing how one can wish, as I do, that Uli had stuck around to do two or three more albums with the Scorpions, but at the same time admit that Lovedrive, Animal Magnetism, and Black Out are absolute classics. It's like we wish that Roth could magically do a few more albums with the band without so much as a year passing out of the actual timeline.
Wow, what a treat seeing some rare early performances by the Scorps! Odd thing though... after watching the video, I now inexplicably seem to have a strong urge to buy 5 sets of matching white platform boots. :-)
Almost fifty years ago. and I was there with them, on record and in concert, t-shirts and ticket stubs. Great killer band playing Heavy 'Rock Music. Love the 'Scorpions.

If you think about it. How long the scorpions have been ROCK,n and ROLL, n. Amazing! Give yourselves a big treat and go pick up a copy of Scorpions (Tokyo Tapes ) you won't regret it.
Uli's double-tracked sound in the beginning... I mean, that's what one of the best sounds I've ever heard. Then soon after you get all the cool tape flange stuff. If I found those sounds in my entire lifetime I'd be happy, he has both in one freaking song!
You can get it TC electronic doubler pedal and Strymon Deco for tape flange sounds also quintessence harmonizer pedal as well for the guitar harmonies in the Scorpions as well
On This Is My Song it's Jurgen Rosenthal, which later will join Ulrich Roth's band Electric Sun , after the maestro's leaving Scorpions in 1978. On Speedy's coming it's Rudy Lenners which joined Scorpions for their Third album "In Trance" till "Virgin Killer", then left for health issues. Hermann Rarebell replaced him for the fifth album "Taken By Force".
Hey, he wanted to go his own way and I respect that. I'm just glad that they snagged Uli when they could. My favourite albums were always the Uli ones!
@@Driven2Beers Uli later admitted that maybe he should have stayed with the band a little longer. But he was too impatient to do his own projects. Fortunately, Klaus was able to convince him to at least take part in the Japan tour before leaving. Otherwise we wouldn't have the Tokyo Tapes.
Even though Uli is a superior guitarist to Mattias, the Scorpions wouldn't had made it bigtime and gone more commercial heavy metal.Uli wanted to stick to classical guitar.I wish when they did the renunion in 2006 that they would have played more of the '72-'77 songs like Sails of Charon and Polar Nights and Dark Lady.I was BLOWN away to some of the Scorpions material they had then when my brother in Law turned me on to the old Scorps 20 years ago.Fly to the Rainbow is masterfully done as well as In Trance,Virgin Killer and Taken by Force.Tokyo Tapes is a MUST for any Scorps fan.Klaus and Rudolf wanted to go with a certain sound that were easy melodic Metal that made them a worldwide supergroup. That's why Lovedrive-Sting sound so different from the early years.Lonesome Crow was even more unusual than ANY Scorpions album with Michael playing all the leads.
Although he was only credited on 3 tracks (Coast to Coast, Another Piece of Meat and Lovedrive), Michael Schenker also played on Loving You Sunday Morning (the 1st solo) and Holiday.
The Speedy's Coming performance was definitely light years ahead of its time. To say that no one was doing that sound in 1974 is an understatement. Finding full concert footage of the Uli era, especially the Tokyo Tapes shows, is like discovering the Ark of the Covenant apparently. Even pre-superstardom Kiss has full concerts you can watch but sadly no Uli era Scorpions.
This always reminds me of being a kid in West-Germany in the 70s and sometimes hanging out with my best friend's older brother's friends at his parties. All the guys looked like Uli. So did the girls..minus the mustache. It always smelled funny, too...
happy birthday Klaus Meine (Hannover, 25 maggio 1948)...
Robert Martin Agree with it completely. Problem was that most of the band wanted to go for a more commercial sounds, while Uli Jon Roth wanted the band to be more of a platform for his musical experimentation. After he left, Scorpions took a steep decline in overall quality. Same can be said about Judas Priest. Their pre-hell bent for leather work was great and innovative, after which they took the cheesy commercial route
Has anyone ever looked more rock n roll than Uli Jon Roth?
Love you Klaus..... Speedys coming because Still.... I am in Trance....! ! ! !
This is the Scorpions i grew up to!
This sounds like a mix of Punk and Hard Rock to me! Love this band
Great song by a great band, Glad to see Scorpions beyond Rock You Like a Hurricane.
Man Uli shreds awesome

Damn what a voice
Only a band this damn awesome could lose Michael Schenker and actually get better. Uli Roth is God.
truly.
And only band this dawn awesome could lose Uli and actually get better. Matthias Jabs is so awesome also!
Imagine if Rudolph had left instead
@God Love LOL Michael trash’s him every time they ask him about him
Yeah, and he influenced a shitload of the best guitarists that came later on.
Klaus is Meine hero!
oh Klaus what a amazing voice....
I put him up with Mercury, Halford, Bach (Sebastian), and Dickenson. Mind you, I put Ronnie Dio in a class all by himself!
Love all this older stuff by the group
Fly To The Rainbow,,,What A Classic!!!!!!!!
Seventies Scorpions were better than eighties Scorpions
i totally agree. They became pop / rock in the 80s to suit the mass R&B audience
what does pop and rock have to do with r and b
Definitely! Klaus still had full set of hair!
That's what people say about KISS, But I like Both Kiss & Scorpions 70's & 80's
kevin hasch way better!
Guitar Right at the Start KILLS EVERYTHING!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
What a voice!!!@
now that's a whammy bar
Kultni Scorpions u samim počecima ..
U startu dobri! 👍👍👍
"Speedy's Coming" is such a great song it's in this clip twice.
Sure. I like Alice Cooper. I like Ringo Starr. I like David Bowie. I LOVE Scorpions !!!
I love this old stuff they should have kept playing this, Herman and U were great and, there's no voice like Klaus
Klaus has strong vibrato, very nice singer
Speedy's Coming and This Is My Song. Yes, thank you for this upload! Great footage
I love the OLD scorpion stuff it really rocked they good now, but I really like the raw stuff they did in 60s and 70s
Mary Ripberger jjjjj
Wow, what a treat seeing some rare early performances by the Scorps! Odd thing though... after watching the video, I now inexplicably seem to have a strong urge to buy 5 sets of matching white platform boots. :-)
How many good songs , the scorpions had so many!!!!
Wunderbar!!!
Almost fifty years ago. and I was there with them, on record and in concert, t-shirts and ticket stubs. Great killer band playing Heavy 'Rock Music. Love the 'Scorpions.
Lonesome Crow and Lovedrive I think are their best rockin albums.
I think Animal Magnetism is
What a tune! What a band!! Incredible rythm and vocals and the guitar work? Wow!!..Also sounds very punk metal to me that driving beat and rhiff.
such a powerful voice
Yea !!! They were quite incredible. Ulrich Roth is a guitar God. Unbelievable.
This is what I look for! Thank You. I wish I could see more!!!
"This is my song" snuck in the middle frikn awesome!!!!!
This is so wonderfully raw, never even heard of the 70's stuff, thanks RUclips!!
First track I heard from Scorpions. Bought the album while in Germany.
It was hard to understand Klaus in the early days but the band was so freaking good
This version of the scorpians is what we have been oblivious to for way too long!

This is amazing..I love them 🇩🇪
Sensationell ! Mit Uli Jon Roth waren die Scorpions in den 70ern
wirklich am Besten !!! Qualitativ Hervorragend !!!
Hast Recht... Wunderbare Band.
If you think about it. How long the scorpions have been ROCK,n and ROLL, n. Amazing! Give yourselves a big treat and go pick up a copy of Scorpions (Tokyo Tapes ) you won't regret it.
Ι love Tokyo Tapes LP ...and World Wide Live ...My favorite song from Tokyo Tapes is the "In Trance" ... I love Scorpions to all my my life !
Wow, this early stuff is great!, love them all.
Uli's double-tracked sound in the beginning... I mean, that's what one of the best sounds I've ever heard. Then soon after you get all the cool tape flange stuff. If I found those sounds in my entire lifetime I'd be happy, he has both in one freaking song!

Jurgen is a shitty player in my opinion, the guy that replaced him on in trance is much better in my opinion
Skylar Star
I COMPLETELY disagree. Drum work on Fly to the Rainbow is amazing.
He's grooving pretty hard
Uli is still a teenager here. Unreal.
Timeless....priceless......
Great Song one of my favorite Scorpions Tunes !
Amazing. Timeless....Uli was sooo far ahead of his time...after Jimi...lol
He even took in Jimi's girlfriend.
Before him as a guitarist and way better, they shared the same woman too! Monica was a c*nt!
@@Slicklickz and the song We’ll Burn The Sky by Scorpions was written about Jimi and her.
It's impressive performence and easy listening
Great song
Uli was amazing here. Wish they all kept him. Also, they did some good work without him, but Uli was the best.
Hey, he wanted to go his own way and I respect that. I'm just glad that they snagged Uli when they could. My favourite albums were always the Uli ones!

Classic Scorpions once again
Great performance by Uli. Very happy that I've been able to hear Scorpions live in Athens, performing early-years songs like these. Thumbs Up!
now that is a cool guitar effect
Vintage Scorpions yah!!! Great upload thanks for sharing this us👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏
They were really playing their hearts out
Uli is a madman. Just too much
This is phenomenal
Uli Roth is a great guitar player!
As much as I LOVE Matthias Jabs, I would LOVE to see Uli J. Roth join the the Scorpions again!
Roth was by far better that Mathias.. when he left the band's sound started breaking up
Michael played on Lovedrive as well,as Mattias was having trouble adjusting.
Michael was stellar on Lovedrive, especially on Coast to Coast, that track is so heavy it sinks.
Although he was only credited on 3 tracks (Coast to Coast, Another Piece of Meat and Lovedrive), Michael Schenker also played on Loving You Sunday Morning (the 1st solo) and Holiday.
Esse é o Scorpions!!!
70's scorps were the best, just not know then!
Lads, this is how metal was born
Scorpions the best!!
The Speedy's Coming performance was definitely light years ahead of its time. To say that no one was doing that sound in 1974 is an understatement. Rosenthal is a monster on drums!
I swear Uli is playing all along the watchtower within this song
Uli Jon Roth was a Master with the Tremelo bar and had such a unique sound ,, Master of his Trade and still rocks Now
I grew up in the 70s and this was a staple
nice little bonus song after! Uli still sounds like Uli on a Gibson!
Super 💯
❤ amo vc demais
This always reminds me of being a kid in West-Germany in the 70s and sometimes hanging out with my best friend's older brother's friends at his parties. All the guys looked like Uli. So did the girls..minus the mustache. It always smelled funny, too...
Sending Love from San Antonio Texas
my favorites
Rock it guys!!!!
Love forever!!!

nadie como scorpions!hoo yeaa
one of their best speed songs \m/
UJR honestly as good as anyone ever, tone and fluidity to die for
Which one is UJR, Which one is Schenker? Jabs not in this version, right? Thanks for the info bro!

when the Scorpions were awesome, before all that wind of change nonsense, always do what youre good at,and the Scorpions were good at this.
Robert Martin Agree with it completely. Problem was that most of the band wanted to go for a more commercial sounds, while Uli Jon Roth wanted the band to be more of a platform for his musical experimentation. After he left, Scorpions took a steep decline in overall quality.

+Bram Claes You guys are both absolutely nuts. Both eras of both bands are fantastic, to say the least.
I think Face the Heat still can be a great work, but from 1994 to 2004 their Music was terrible.Since Unbreakeable they have produce some great stuff
+EnslaveTheWorld -- I agree - all eras are great for both bands.... although Turbo IS a little swooshy and Wind Of Change IS a bit gaybo...
Daniel Guinea face the heat is one of the last scorpions album to host some real heavy metal tracks.
Are You Kidding Me!!!
great early Scorps
some of the bands best
la meilleure formation du groupe Scorpions
fernando inacio Assurément
Non le batteur est un peu léger !
VERY GOOD..........................
very old...very cool.....thanks for posting. His voice has a Alice Cooper ring to it. Don't ya think?
The Blackout album and everything before really kicked ass
Wow...that voice...and that's a long song almost 9 and half min.
