I see what your saying, but I disagree on some points. A. I don't think the canon really matters when it comes to determine a dream friend. As you said Marx and Dark Meta Knight doesn't make sense canonically due to their previously established morals. B. I don't think a character's fighting experience really matters. What matters is the potential move set, which I will admit would be difficult, but I still think it's possible. C/D. Your completely right about him being a bit boring and that more characters are more worthy. But it's not like he takes up a slot. Escargoon, Hyness, and prince fluff can all be dream friends. I think he would be a neat joke character that could be included in a wave.
First on the terms of his moveset. Escargoon would use lighting in a few moves in the same way he used them in the episode Shell Shocked. (He could also use the 2 shells he wears in Shell Shocked for his alternate skins.) He would also utilize Escardroid in at least one move from the episode Right Hand Robot. Also I don't see a problem with him using his shell in ways he hadn't in the show. I think Escargon doesn't need to be treated the exact sameway like he was in the anime. I would think of it like a reboot. And Anyways it would be a crime to not use his shell in his moves. It would be a really unique shield. (Maybe he could move while in shield.) Also I could see him using his shell like the rock ability. (even though that's dumb.) And like how you suggested a wheel. It would probably be used while dashing. And now for cannon. *shrugs* I can't really come up with anything good. All I can say is it wouldn't wreck the current cannon. They could probably say something like, "He was there the entire time, but played such a minor role that he was never seen in those games." which is dumb. or they could say something like, "His inclusion is non-canonical, just pretend he isn't there." Which is also dumb. The only way I could see there being a half decent way to explain his inclusion is if that were his first appearance in the canon, but that would make a lot of people angry. I mean he would probably be seen in cut scenes as comic relief in future installments, but that would still make people angry. I don't think there is a great solution for the cannon, but I think that by it self will deny Escargoon.
