New Documentary On Queen's Final Days: “She Put The Country Before Herself To The Very End”

  • Queen Elizabeth II felt it would be “difficult” if she died at Balmoral but was persuaded to step back from the “decision making process,” the Princess Royal has told a documentary.
Anne reveals the late Queen’s thinking during her last days in an interview for the BBC film, and says about the accession of her brother the King: “I’m not sure that anybody can really prepare themselves for that kind of change.”
Elizabeth’s only daughter said it was “serendipity” she was at Balmoral before her mother’s death and she “weirdly felt a sense of relief” when the Imperial State Crown was removed from her coffin - symbolic of her role passing to Charles.
Jake Berry discusses the story with TalkTV royal correspondent Rupert Bell. Rupert says that the Queen “put the country before herself right to the very end”.

I was nine years old at the time. I spent a month in London with my aunt and uncle and cousins a few years later. I was maybe 13 or 14. Years later, my cousin told me everything she learned about the royal family was from me on our flight going there. 😂 no idea what I even knew to tell her. But that touched me that she has a memory like that because she’s six years younger than me.

Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, is her Mother's daughter. She was wonderful right until the end for her Mother. Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II was right to stay in Balmoral until the end. It showed that she was also the Monarch of Scotland and this was doubly locked in by the funeral procession from Balmoral to Edinburgh and the lying in state in Edinburgh - it was wholly right that this happened - and I am English. She was Queen of the UK and the Commonwealth and will always be revered. Of course the procession from London to Windsor was also just wonderful. I feel we will never see her like again.

Totally agree. She died in one of her favourite places, and it meant the Scottish people were part of the memorial ceremonies.
I was a little disappointed they did not take her back to London by train, so that the people of other parts of Great Britain could not pay their respects. However, I guess that would have been too much for Princess Anne. Although Edward and Sophie could have accompanied the casket on the train.

I miss her every day . I tried very hard to follow her example as a daughter, wife & mother . As a family & irish one . My parents respected her . My father cried when she spoke to Martin & ,spoke in our language. It ment so much to us , My daughter met the Queen & her husband at worcester cathedral. I ment them both too , so did my father , my mother served them a few times . Not many people realise that when the trouble s were going on , Irish men looked after the royal family ( irish guards) . Yes like every irish person I want my country free . But I want know bloodshed too xxx

American here.I have always admired and respected the late Queen. She was such a wonderful leader, monarch, mother and stateswoman. She could not be more devoted to her job and responsibilities. Harry will never have the love for his country or the level of respect and dignity that the Queen showed everyday. He should be ashamed at the stunts that he has pulled against his family. All for money and a woman who tried to mock the Queen for fame.Shameful.I wish the best for King Charles and Prince William for the future.

Why do people feel the need to proclaim that they are not monarchists/royalists, but....? It's irrelevant whether one likes the head of state or not. They role remains as is. It's like saying, "I don't like the role of the president of the USA, but I don't mind President Trump."

As she lived in duty, she died in duty. A remarkable woman and Queen.
I'm American, I was interested in her as a unique role, not of her choosing, not only fulfilled, but pushed the envelope.
Everyone wants a piece of her. That's pressure that famous people understand, but it's not easy.
    Well done Queen Elizabeth II.
    Princess Royal IS THE GOAT.

The only time I ever saw the Queen put family before duty was when she stayed in Balmoral for those extra days after the death of Diana for the sake of her two little grandsons who had lost their beloved mother. We can thank her for that decision because what a fine man William has become.

I may be mistaken but I seem to recall Queen Elizabeth II was present at the death bed of her mother. Hey presto our Princess Royal was also in attendance at the death bed of her mother. We know so little about the Queen’s cause of death and I think that is wrong. Coroners give cause of death to the public to clarify events. One rule should apply to all.
