The older photos were taken with a DSLR and a long focal length lens, it's normal that you can't recreate them with a smartphone you know 😜 but it actually makes this funny and your dad made a great job! hahaha Maybe a tip: Get further from the subject, and crop the photo later, but you'll still lose all the nice depth of field and quite some resolution too
The larger sensor on the camera compared to the phone helps a lot too. But I gotta say I'm pretty blown away by the dynamic range on modern phones (at least for photos) compared to pro cameras from 10 years ago.

I was a photographer and managed models for a few years... your dad's framing problems were because his lens was a wider angle than your photog's lens was. That changes what's in the shot as well as the proportions of the subject. That's why your face looks so big in an overhead selfie and your body is smaller--phones use wide-angle lenses.
I feel like half the reason I like the older pictures more was because you were a lot closer to my age then, so you look prettier to me than now that you're older (sorry about the bad english, but I didn't want to take the time to make a more clear sentence). The other half would be because it's just difficult to get the same lighting and angles when re-creating pictures.
I was class of 2010... but I took my senior photos in 2009... but I can't recreate them because I got them professionally done by Visual which is no longer there.
