The irony is that ads breed a different kind of discontent for me. The more I see an ad for something I'm not interested in the more I want less than nothing to do with it. The more I see ads for stupid games on Google Play the more I refuse to play them and hate the idea of installing them. The more I see ads for something I deem a fad or an annoyance, the more contempt I have for the product, and even the brand as a whole. I'm on the autism spectrum, so it basically triggers my demand avoidance response, and makes me irrationally hate the company and all of their employees. Like, to the point if I saw them bleeding on the ground, asking for help, I would walk towards them just to get their hopes up and then step over them as if they didn't exist.

I would block even relevant ads. Advertising is an extremely lazy and overused way of trying to generate income, I decide what goes into my eyes and ears - not Google.
With that said, I am always a potential customer for any service or product of interest - so your job as the creator of that product or service is to put in some hard work to make it something I am willing to pay for, and then sell it to me.

Great video, but when you talked about getting internet service, yes my first ISP in the 90's was a guy running a computer repair shop in the next small town over in a strip mall attached to a Food Lion, Excard drugs, & a movie rental/music store/pizza parlor so it was a one stop shop for nerd like myself 😅
Also when it comes to more modern internet, and they are big corporate players as they have the cash to build out the networks but 5G wireless internet from T-Mobile & Verizon(AT&T's offering is a joke right now) is also driving cost back down, while increasing accessibility to more people with really good speeds/pings for the money.
Lastly I'll say you know it's bad when even Google with Chrome OS/Chrome OS Flex is not near as bad as Windows, or Mac OS at the popups, and notifications which can be turned off really easy if you don't want them.

Speaking of this manufactured discontent, it's crazy how much of a fundamental agreement there is between people about major issues like this in our society. Like, you dislike this power centralisation and want small business with a free market. You also as a Christian want people to be good and kind to each other and to live morally. It's crazy how similar that is in intended function to what more left leaning people are pushing for. The left currently seems quite focused on civil rights, which is a type of pushing for morality and kindness. Socialism too is about redistributing power through redistributing wealth and providing more services for the poor. The redistribution of power is ultimately part of the equation of breaking up these oligopolies and creating an environment were small business can thrive.
I personally want a balance of both, so my take is that free markets left unchecked ultimately lead to consolidation, so we do need forces countering that. But also I 100% agree that ideally people should be as free as possible within the bounds of morality, and I love small business.
One thing that makes me quite hopeful is seeing how much people are realising how unhealthy social media is, and seeing people get concerned about what is being done to our democratic stability. It feels like humanity as a metaphorical person got addicted to a substance and is now finally realising how much it messed up their life and mind and is making efforts to recover.

I value my life and my time far too much to subject myself to such abuse. I don't see ads at all, one way or another. If that becomes impossible, then I will just move on. I wouldn't mind non-intrusive "conveyance of information", but what we have is, as I state, abuse. I am very content. If I need something I will actively look for it on my own terms.

The situation of aggressive marketing and advertisement is getting really hectic in my opinion. The fact that you mention, us being overcrowded by a flood of advertisements, wave after wave relentlessly is truly frustrating and disassociating us quite often, most importantly into perceptions with origins that we cannot accurately pinpoint. Creating needs for us all the time, creating situations as if we are getting less than the rest in life, turning us into consuming entities, valuable only for perpetrating our purchasing power so we can continue to be exploited in that regard.
What's worst, is that this is not anymore just a business model or just another business practice. Alternatives or ways to become less dependent are becoming more and more scarce as well. Take cars for example, companies make cars full of electronics, that a simple engineer can no longer fix. They are create more and more complicated parts, though with less reliability, and they don't pay attention to spare parts either. In computers, there are massive advertising campaigns about AI, but none pays particular attention to provide sufficient support for their GPUs to just "work". Instead, they limit availability by passively idling on support so that less and less can run such platforms locally, enhancing paid subscription AI plans, censorship (and I am not merely suggesting nsfw restrictions) as well as data access to our thoughts and way of functioning.
This is a massive subject you are opening, but this can go on to extreme lengths to take on as an issue to be solved. I am a firm believer of an individual's abilities to both recognize and tackle these challenges of our times. In my opinion, it is less probable for someone to choose his freedom - in the sense of not being forced to behave in a certain manner, but actually choosing to - rather than not. And the most common cause of this probability in my experience is fear of social rejection. As if it matters (which leads to a different conversation).

I only use two passwords on my Linux systems and neither work. I had a computer tech take a look at it and he said he couldn't figure out why it was locked. He even tried to over-write the OS by installing Windows over it. Nothing. I was using LMDE6 on a Geekom A8 with the Ryzen 9 processor. It had been working beautifully, but after an update it started shutting down on its own after 30 minutes of operation. I checked all the settings and it wasn't set to turn itself off or enter hibernation. Do you know of a way to access my system again? @SwitchedtoLinux Geez, Tom, with me being the economically left-leaning athiest I am, I thought we weren't supposed to agree on anything. Well, speaking of discontentment, media would have society believe, and therefore society would have us believe, that it is supposed to be impossible for us to agree on anything. Yet, here we are. In this video, you're speaking a whole lot of my same thoughts, all of the thoughts that no media want people to be exposed to or consider. As you felt a need to declare more than once that you're not a socialist or anything, I dare take this one step further.
Media would have us believe, and therefore society would have us believe, that any criticism of socialism makes us a capitalist, and any criticism of capitalism makes us a socialist. I hereby declare that both systems in their purest form SUCK. Beyond that, media would have us believe, and therefore society would have us believe, that capitalism and the free enterprise system are the same thing. They aren't. Free enterprise means entrepreneurs are free to create independent businesses and try to serve customers better than their competition. The public wins. Capitalism means those born into wealth can invest in existing publicly traded companies, direct CEOs to "make me money by any means necessary", lobby governments for advantageous laws, retain legal teams to ensure they never face proper justice, force exclusivity contracts to hold down competition, hire foreign manufacturing labour to reduce costs, once there are only a few big fish engage in anti-competitive price-fixing, buy any startup company that actually serves customers properly, keep the customer unsatisfied. The public loses. We need to take a long hard look at the truth of "what is capitalism?" Capitalism is anti- free enterprise. It's even worse than socialism. It's worse than anything. We need to stop equating capitalism with free enterprise.

Thank you, The Brothers Grimm, for another really great book of fairy stories too - I particularly like the ones about the ugly duckling and the tin soldier.

@@act.13.41 It depends how easily one can be horrified. Killing all human and animal life on the planet with a 40-day flood except for a select few on a big boat is a fairly horrific story too.

@@terrydaktyllus1320 But do you understand why God did it? The fallen ones had corrupted all flesh. Noah was a holy man and perfect in his generations, thus he was saved.
Ever since Genesis 3 in the garden of Eden, it has been a seed war. Eve's seed against Satan's seed. Noah was the 10th from Adam and already things were that bad.
