Intimacy is when one person connects with another person emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. True intimacy requires mutual trust, and the lack of true intimacy breaks up marriages and causes burnout in the Christian life. True intimacy with Jesus is required to grow in your love for Jesus.
With All of Your Heart
Loving Jesus with all of your heart means to spend time delighting in His presence, and letting Him dwell in the very center of your being and life. This requires building intimacy not only by being in prayer, but also giving Jesus the chance to talk back by making time to sit quietly in His presence.
Growing in Love
The more time you spend in intimacy with Jesus, the more you know Him, love Him, and want to love Him. Conversely, not spending time in intimacy with Jesus will cause your faith to get weaker and weaker.
Jesus died for you, paying your eternal debt. Taking the time to focus on the depth, height, width, and breadth of His love for you will light a fire inside of you regardless of circumstances, leading you to become more like Him.
