Yeah, I learned that rather recently too and it's in the tooltip and everything. Another useful think is shift-clicking attack orders when the same leader has several, such as with naval invasions. One big disadvantage to using Marshall battle-plans is not training Organizer on Generals. For some reason they need their own battle plans, not the Marshall's. Organizer and Skilled Staffer are two most useful traits for a Marshall. Organizer unlocks Logistic Wizard and Thorough Planner, while Skilled Staffer unlocks Expert Delegator, for 7 Army Groups instead of 5.
The way I see it, is the micro units are planning their own battleplan, but the silly game mechanics doesn't allow you to overlay it on the other cohesive battleplan without screwing up the overall cohesiveness.
Important thing worth noticing is that when you create battle plan with shift, if you have air wings assigned to different generals all the planes will fly over one same air zone. Its because shift plan makes every army deploy equally along the front line on top of each other and planes think that divisions are on the beginning of the line, while wings from every army thinks the same. If you use this way of placing front line it's better to micro planes separately.
Maybe assign all planes in one big wing to the field marshal instead? or does that involve some penalties for too many planes even though its over a huge collection of troops?
@@GrayLensman51 still the one big wing can fly over 1 zone so planes would still catch only that which the order starts (plus you can't make wings bigger than 1000 planes)

I am confused by your tip to prevent reshuffling of division placements using a FM BP. Assume that you are attacking the USSR as Germany. Do you just create 1 solid BP with all divisions under that FM assigned, then create a secondary FM BP below the one u just made without any divs assigned? I was really confused with what to do to prevent that reshuffling.
The "empty battleplan to micro" method doesn't provide benefits since the divisions are not sitting at that front. Plus, they can't rest to regain org since they'll always try to get to the battleplan.

And then go to Edit mode, and when u putt your cursor over Front line u have option " Right-click to begin the free drawning of the Advencement Arrow. " The arrow must end on another order to wich connection is allowed. How this work ?
You create an attack order (advance arrow). Then create a second attack order but keep holding down right mouse button. While holding down the right mouse button use tab to select the starting point for the 2nd attack. Usually the end point of the first attack order. What this does is an army will advance to the endpoint of the first attack line. Then the second attack will begin and only end at the end point of the second attack. Is this what you mean?
Interesting... I thought that your units did not start building up battle plan bonus until they were actually on the battle line. I even think I observed this in the Spanish Civil War when I was moving units to a battle line several provinces away. They didn't start point build up until they arrived on the line. I was moving them by strategic movement figuring on building up planning bonus as they recovered org from the strat movement. I wonder if strategic movement inhibits point build up and maybe normal movement doesn't? Have to test this out in my next run.
Not entirely sure because there is no way to tell. I use the following rule: If your units are moving they lose battle plan bonus. If they are stationary they gain bonus. This is how it seems to work based on what the wiki says.

I can order them to stop, but as soon as I resume game speed they resume their movement towards the assigned offensive line anyhow. Double justify Austria to Deny Anschluss and Portugal to get an Atlantic port to invade the UK from, starting WW2 with a UK capitulation, and then preying on your now helpless Germany is pretty OP wink wink. Gibraltar won’t block you because you’re neutral to the UK by taking out Portugal first (don’t capitulate Austria - they should be the minor and capitulate with Portugal as long as your troops skirmish one single time). Taking out Austria destroys the German AI focus tree and then they just sit there til you’re hungry. You can usually get a naval invade off into the western approaches without having to contest the English Channel for superiority from Portugal on hour 0 of the war before the Royal Navy can reposition itself. Once the UK is dead, turn around give France the good news. Hold the alps and naval invade the entire northern coast, seizing multiple ports and walking into Paris quickly just like Germany does, but without dealing with all the river crossings. Of course Nationalist Spain before 1944 is a joke to conquer, but you have to wait for the SCW to end to avoid peace deal shenanigans (You can do all the fighting and win the war, but the faction that “won” will get all the gains by default). I don't understand what the 72 division general use is really for. Microing 72 divisions isn't efficient and to keep the 72 limit you can't use the field marshal front line to manage a moving line and prevent gaps. Seems like it's mostly for static defensive generals.

You may have to wait to build planning bonus or there is something wrong with your army set-up. Check out this guide for more info: ruclips.net/video/KmInKkpRYdM/видео.html
With all due respect, when i shift+click, it shuffles units so badly i always have to ctrl+b them for to go to their target location. Actually, in my experience it is way worse than a generic field marshall order. When i tried it, that is what i experienced anyway.
Ya it's actually a lot worse if the front is bigger. If you don't have to worry about a bunch of countries and just have one big front like with Russia then it's better to use the regular one and micro the separate lengths that way they don't have time to move around too much
You have to wait for a few weeks without moving your troops to max the bonus. Grand battle plan doctrine can increase the percentage of battle plan bonus as well.
Thanks.. I already got that part. I set a front and off line with the field marshall. then select the specific general (lets say guderian for ex sake) i want to micro and create his own addtl front and off line in an inaccessible territory. but then guderians divisions still keep auto repositioning across the field marshal line. In your video you kind of click through the actions quicker than you explain the concepts so im just missing something...
I would just use an additional Field Marshal battle plan on that front then take the divisions out of the battle plan with the minus tool above the pictures of the Generals.

In the above video from 4minute 10seconds you mention removing panzer divisions and unnassign them from Field marshall order and setting their front against a neutral country and then unnassign them from the neutral front. They can then move anywhere and still continue to receive the planning bonus. You say,' The battle plan must be against the country you are at war with,' but in the above example your panzers divisions are not at war with Luxemborg. In my example I set my 2 divisions against neutral Portugal whom I am not at war with but I receive no planning bonuses unlike the panzer divisions you unnassign. They need to remove that feature, either push us to micro or don't I say. You can tell this happened because a lot of us singleplayer history buff guys refused to play every nation 7-2 with superior firepower pre NSB. Once you play Grand battleplan you realize the battleplan is everything and I realize now the MP guys, who have to find every stupid bug and make it a tactic from tech juggling, CAS only, CL navy, Space Marines, etc just cannot live in a world where you play the game as intended. They are the FPS equivalent of the old noob tubers or suicide C4 guys just playing dumb gimmicks which kill the experience and God save us all if Paradox yields to them. They're why the FPS is finally dying and frankly had they not been a bunch of annoying gaywads back then we probably never would have seen the travesties that befell us like COD WW2 or BF5. I guess it was those of us daring the phonies on here to actually play China or the Soviet Union right and use their country specific doctrines that finally caused a lot of these guys to step up and find new stupid tricks or be a weirdo like Feedbackgaming who has pretty much been exposed as knowing about as much as Drew Durnil. BUT some of that all boils down to game design as well not making things as dangerous as they should be, CAS only or a CL navy should be an easy win for anyone who is playing the game right or closer to reality. I get HOI4 has it's jokey alt history and I'm all for it but the idea a bunch of Stuka bombers would not be brutally annhilated by an equal or frankly even severely less amount of fighters is unrealistic.

A small thing. For me, as a newer (250h) player, it is kinda hard to track your actions that quickly. And by that i mean your cursor movement en which things you select etc.
But as I said, just another great, informative video!
Thanks for the feedback!
How did you do that big and fat line at czechoslovakian border?
Shift right click while making a field marshal battle plan. It may be left click, sorry I forget.
Thank you

Im entirely confused on the independent divisions getting the BP bonus. because every time I try this set up, the independent divisions show no bonus. Ive tried replicating every step but its very unclear what EXACTLY is being done.
Welcome to HOI4. You will not see a bonus listed anywhere.
@@ESG1 Thanks for the quick reply. So how do I know I am getting the bonus as claimed? I want to make sure I've set it up properly. Also, it appears the blank order you made was with the army (general), not the army group (FM) command. is it important which one you use?
I struggle to get operation working..Like they say ‘superior enemy’ any tips?
You may have to wait to build planning bonus or there is something wrong with your army set-up. Check out this guide for more info: ruclips.net/video/KmInKkpRYdM/видео.html
@@ESG1 thank you!
No problema, Gracias por tu comentario.
If you don't have to worry about a bunch of countries and just have one big front like with Russia then it's better to use the regular one and micro the separate lengths that way they don't have time to move around too much
Thanks, learned something new have a like!
Awesome, thank you!
thanks, now i am unstopable. wasted all my population for stupid tactics and now i destroy everything what is on my patyh :D
Lol, good to hear!
I have question about plan preparation attack bonus
How do I increase the percentage of it
You have to wait for a few weeks without moving your troops to max the bonus. Grand battle plan doctrine can increase the percentage of battle plan bonus as well.
@@ESG1 thank you I was wondering how it worked and does it work for navel invasions too?
I have never seen that there is any bonus after the naval invasion is ready to fire. Just press go on the naval invasion as soon as it is ready.
@@ESG1 you are very good and helpful RUclipsr
what is the weird army with only 1 unit in it?
Thanks
Does the field marshall or general get the battle plan in the inaccessible territory?
Field marshall sets the front line and offensive line? and general sets plan in inaccessible territory? Or vice versa?
Shift click for the Field Marshal bp and everyone gets it who is under the Field Marshal.
Thanks for quick replies. After reading them and rewatching I realized i was missing the unassign step@@ESG1
I love your channel!!!!
Thanks man!
doesn't the Area Defence exploit still allow planning via the field marshal the army is attached to?
Not sure, there is no where to reference bonuses from battle plans.
Hi I am in the Spanish civil war as Germany. Two divisions. I have no theatre group commander just the general. I have set a frontline against neutral Portugal and set an offensive order into Portugal. I unnassign the two divisions and move them to the border againgst the Republicans. But they do not gain any 'plan preparation attack bonus' .What am I doing wrong?
The battle plan must be against he country you are at war with.
@@ESG1 Hi thanks for your reply but I am still a little confused. I want to remove my 2 divisions from the field marshall battleplan in the Spanish civil war scenario and micro them and gain the battleplan bonuses.
I am doing what you suggest to micro and receive planning bonus but I receive none.
What am I doing wrong?
@@tomgunn6086 Sorry about the error in the video. The battle plan should be against whatever nation you are at war with. You simply click on the field marshal, click on which divisions you want to micro and hit the minus sign. They will now get planning bonus and will be able to move freely.
@@ESG1 thanks
Thanks really useful
Thanks for continuing the channel membership. I’ll keep em coming.

lol
after this i conqered france as britain in 1938. thanks.
NP, sounds like u had fun
@@ESG1 i did
how did you make attacking arrow so big at 1:38
Fieldmarshal battle plan. Should be a shift left click while making a battle plan. It combines all your army's into one big battle plan.
@@ESG1 already got it. It doesn't work with FPS map
4:55 Does division not have to be on the frontline to have benefits from planing bonus?
Correct. The battle plan just has to be drawn on the map against a nation you have a war goal against.
I saw entrenchment and this video, now i wamt to play france WW1 - round 2 elitric bungaloo 😂
My lines are not turning purple, they stay grey to put my soldiers in one spot.
The AI will choose a random color. It will appear striped if there are no divisions in the battle plan. I believe it is ctrl left click to add divisions to a battle plan.
hey ESG, beginner here and on my 1st playthrough as Germany. I went historical and declared wara on Poland and a few major mistakes along the way that I need to keep in mind in future (my air superiority was terrible in Poland with 1000 fighters in the region and probably biggest thing that crippled my attack midway through was 0 fuel). Its been 3 months and still haven't capitulated Poland.....do you know why Poland refuses to capitulate I've already taken 4-5 capitals?
EDIT: As I reload the game, 1 second into unpausing they capitulate Lol! For a 1st playthrough happy I didn't fail to win a war (thanks to you ESG, i watched a lot of your guides before i even started my playthrough), but it took me almost 4 months.....
Sounds like you used all your oil up training. Trade with Iran and Romania to get your oil supply up. Don't send your navy out to conserve oil.
@@ESG1 Oh interesting tidbit -- I had my Navy, Army, and Air all going as well...Wouldnt that mean I am leaving the seas wide open to the UK? Or it would be a necessity based on my starting oil pre war i guess. Thanks for the response you are awesome!
@@AdamM12590 Don't worry about contesting the sea lanes. Try to find land routes to trade through. Combat amphibious assualts on the beaches.
Hey Man ik this May be random and kinda late but i dont know how to make that big offensive line im 1:39 could you explain to me?
Click on the Field Marshall picture, shift click after hitting the battle plan tool in the area u want the BP.
@@ESG1 thank you do much!
@@ESG1 your a life saver, keep up the good work Man!
It doesn´t work for me. My game is updated, I have all DLCs, and I know for a fact I am doing everything correctly. Does it depend on the field marshall?@@ESG1
It does not depend on the particular Field Marshal, no.
Has anyone ever told you that you sound like Ron DeSantis?
You are the first one. No political ambitions here.
@@ESG1 haha I know I just thought it was interesting
Just started playing hoi4 3 days ago. I still know nothing 😭
I don't think they have battle plans in HOI3
@@ESG1I wouldn’t know?
Lol, me neither. I've never played hoi3
Tbh the video got kinda mid after 2-3 minute mark. I was hoping "advanced battle plan" meant stacking progressive orders and how to best utilize that.
Thanks for the feedback. I would not recomend stacking progressive orders. The battle plan mechanic works best, the less orders that are present on the map per Field Marshal.
bump
Doing a field marshal offensive line isnt explained enough. When I try it, its a regular battle plan.
I think It's shift right click if you want one line. Click on the fieldmarshal and right click for a stiched together line. I prefer the infantry to be on the shift right click, singular line.
lots of cav lol
This s=game s
ux. ITs buggy. Screwy. Like everything Paradox makes.
