That was fascinating to watch. Jabali always seems to over power Ringo but he’s a bit older and Ringo always comes back to play. Iriki was watching them play. She saw him over powering Ringo. I think Jabali was just startled by her playing and maybe discipline him a bit. I love how DJ intervenes. That was cool how Tajari caught Jabali on the hill. I love watching them.
He definitely wanted to get away. First it seemed like play, then it became more intense. Her behavior was kinda creepy. But it all stems from the complicated relationship between the sisters.

She even paused and looked around for a second as if to check to see if anybody was watching. And if it had been all play then Ringo wouldn't have jumped up on his mom's back - either to get away from her over reaction or to try to stop her from hurting Jabali.

I agree it looked like Iriki was playing with Jabali, and he was laughing. I think Tayari got jealous of them playing together and chased her away to get Jabali's attention back to her
I agree but I’m seeing a very tense baby protection in the mommy here. Maybe she heard a scream we didn’t that meant he was hurt. She is aggressively holding him down as he’s fighting to get away. His screams would have warned mommie to help him, which she did. But are these babies brothers because the other baby stayed with Iriki . We as humans don’t know play and control. They do. These babies are very vocal for mommie to help them.
Hi to everyone! I’m new to watching this group, I’ve grown to love Shabani’s family and Momotaro’s family. One thing I do like to share with each group I join is we need to remember this video is just a snippet out of their day and their life. So we don’t really know the whole story, just what we see on a 15 minute video. Glad to be here and I hope we can have respectful views. 💜🦋☮️
I went back to watch this 3 times before commenting, and I do watch other videos of gorilla families also. These boys are rough and tumble, and it always looks worse than it is. You can tell because they go right back to doing it all over again. Iriki sitting so near to them, joined in the fun and was playing with her nephew as gorilla's do. Tay came storming over, always thinking the worst of her sister, and let her have it. I believe that this was innocent play between a loving Aunt and her nephew that she adores.
The videographer said Jabali started yelling. That’s a clear sign to mom that something isn’t right. These sisters were very interesting to watch for sure. Iriki would play with Jabali but when Tayari started looting Ringo that all stopped. The sisters used to wrestle a lot before Ringo could wrestle with Jabali. It seemed like Iriki really enjoyed it. They don’t do that anymore. It would be nice if they did.😊

Tayari has always bullied her sister while Iriki has always been the passive more caring one. So there has to be a valid reason for Iriki's more agressive reaction. Maybe she saw Jabili bite Ringo too many times in the past and again that day so finally decided to remind him how much it hurts! Tayari looks the other way knowing Jabali (older and bigger) will always get the better of his younger brother...

Play teaches them how to control and learn how hard to play bite, grab and interact with each other and younger siblings without hurting each other. Especially learning about "Tickling Bites" that babies need to learn to be more gentle and actually tickle instead of hurting their sibling. They are born so much stronger then we are and they are fine! Just two baby Gorilla brothers bonding and learning through play. Sad how many use something innocent to bash even the babies and act glad when one is hurt by another. REALLY? WTF? Sad! Empathy, compassion and sympathy right out the door when some people get joy from seeing any innocent soul hurt. Come on! UGH!
To the people who think Jabali is rough with Ringo...Watch other troops and see how babies play then you will know that it is perfectly normal. It's not your fault you felt that way, you knew no better, now you do, so you should feel better too. So nextime you see an inaccurate comment you can inform others what is correct info . Nina, in my experience with these commenters they don’t care if you point out that a lot of Tayari and Jabali’s behavior/antics are normal gorilla behavior. You’ll be accused of being “condescending” and “preaching”. They watch these videos and think Tayari is the just the most abusive gorilla mother. Those same commenters are now projecting their dislike of Tayari onto her baby Jabali, which is so sad to me. I think the hardest thing for humans to do when watching these videos is to stop humanizing these primates and holding them to our human standards.

Nina West, I agree with you! I watch gorilla videos everyday, and the way Ringo and Jabali play is very normal. I also do not think Iriki was hurting Jabali. Just playing. Tayari was just being a protector.
I've not seen Tayari try to hurt Ringo, but Iriki will sometimes hurt Jabali. Like the bite in this video. It's not auntie's job to punish (bite) her nephew at his age rn.
Iriki was there watching the two little ones playing for a while then trying to separate them when the boys were tangled up,then started to play with little J and grabbing him into her arms, of course the aggressive mum Tayari hated it especially she is aware that she is the one left out of the family, she just hates to see her sister has great time with her son’s company. If Iriki was hurting little J, D’jeeco was nearby next to them would know and stop that,obviously Tayari’s violent aggressive behaviour doesn’t fit in this small family with calming soft characters,it’s wrong to put Tayari here she is not happy and her misbehaviour has badly effected other gorillas especially the little ones
I know I'm late to the party, but I agree with other comments here..Jabali has his mother's personality. Busy, mischievous and just BAD! 🤣 And of course the little bad kids always cry when someone gets the better of them and they can't do what they want. But what fascinates me the most is that DJ ALWAYS knows Tayari is in the wrong and he scolds her. He comforts Iriki and then stares Tayari down as if to say, "Alright now. You need to chill out. I'm not gonna tell you anymore today". 🤣🤣 He's so patient with the wives spats and the active kids. Such a sweet husband and Daddy.
Tayari can only react on what she sees and hears. She heard her son screaming and saw his aunt on top of him and biting him, so she charged in to save her baby. It's how any decent mother would react. Right or wrong most any parent would rescue their child first and listen reasons later.
I agree with you. I have never seen Tayari bite Ringo. If someone has seen this then they need to link the video(s) so that all of us can see it with our own eyes. I honestly wish all of the videographers of these zoos and primate parks would show all the facets of gorillas’ personalities/behaviors as they do with Taipei Zoo. These commenters compare this troop to other gorilla troops at other zoos’ videos they watch, but what they aren’t factoring in is that some of the videographers edit their videos to only show viewers the good and not all facets of gorillas.

Tayari is just a grumpy unsettled aggressive mum, doesn’t want to see others playing and get along well, she knows her own son little J is friendly and close to Iriki, sometimes even trying to stop her snapping Ringo from Iriki,little J is smart but sometimes get confused by his mum’s behaviour,the Zoo should pay more attention to her and offering her some kind of treatments and improve her disciplinary issues
In slow motion: looked like Iriki did bite Jabali on his back-how hard, I don‘t know-and, though we can‘t hear anything, he looked to be screaming, but Tay didn‘t show up right away. Iriki continued giving Jabali a workover, hard to tell if it included another bite. He was definitely wanting mommy at that point. I imagine Iriki gets tired of his pesky tornado behavior. I would. Even DJ does at times. And I often think Jabali could use a little disciplining. When Tay finally arrived she was hell bent, mouth open, and probably making some noise. Iriki jumped straight up in the air. In the tussle, it appeared that Tay caught Iriki with an uppercut to the chest or jaw that sent her over the cliff. DJ seemed totally confused! He stared and stared at Iriki, his mild submissive mate, like What the heck was that? He took neither to task, just stood around dumbfounded, debating. The part that actually tugged at my heart was at 4:11 when Jabali flew off the cliff and Tay caught him in her arms. (I‘m usually no fan of Tay, often wishing Iriki would just stand up and deck her.)
I’m telling you that little kid is a bat! He can fly! I don’t like to see either kid in distress but I wish Iriki would do this when Tay takes Ringo. “Hey! Drop that kid!”
Tayari actually took care of Jabali very much, usually she let Jabali play freely, when Jabali shouted, Tayari immediately rushed to his side and chased away Iriki. Tayari often seems rude to take Ringo away, but her behavior to Ringo is the same as Jabali, so I guess Tayari sees that as a way of training. And Iriki's behavior towards Jabali will never be used to treat Ringo. In contrast, Tayari is actually not as bad as everyone thinks.
@@gorilla.djeeco.family there's usually something left out when people say 'not that bad' and it appears that Ringo's behavior towards his 'auntie' leaves one to think differently. I saw one day when he appeared unafraid to go near her or pass by her (after D'jeeco had had enough and put a couple holes in her). Otherwise Ringo is creeping around looking around corners for her. And as soon as he spots her, he beats a path to his mother. Its mist unfortunate that the whole compound is Jabali's playground while Ringo's is limited to a 5 or 10 foot radius around his mother.
I have not seen a mother gorilla be so brutal to another gorilla's baby but I guess it competition. I'm glad DJ knew who was naughty and stood by Iriki to let her know he wasn't happy with her.
it's so funny seeing grown human folks on this post talking about baby j a animal deserve to be bitten because he played too raw. These are damn animals all the gorilla videos I watched with baby gorillas this is how they play. stop acting like these animals or human.
I guess I saw that interaction differently. It looked to me like see was playing with him since he was getting a little rough with ringo. Tayari has been in a mood for several days now and I think was looking for an excuse. Tkh
If youve seen older videos you would see different. Iriki has taken Jabali and slammed him on his head multiple times. Its hard to tell here but I see towards end of playing that Iriki is biting a bit too hard and you can see Jabali is in pain and wants out by they way hes grabbing and pulling her hair to let her know it hurts.
Just looked at the video again and I don't see a lot of comfort from tayari to jabali. In fact the next time I see him he is coming of the cave with iriki. Now he wants to please his mom and is not playing.tkh
It was simple play and Jabali overreacted screaming to mom. It's funny now because I can see this trait in Jabali, he's a bit of a crybaby and Ringo seems more assertive. I wont be the least bit surprised if Ringo is the Alpha over Jabali. He's already giving Jabali all he can handle when they are playing. At the current rate Ringo will be kicking Jabali's azz in a few years.
Tayari is nasty, she’s done some biting on Ringo an when fights start she’s usually the one to start them. She’s possessive of DJeeco. Iriki minds her business an is always off on her own
For whatever reasons, Tayari is not the best of mom gorillas. I see a little more of acceptance of Jabali as time goes on but she still rations his milk time. Little Jabali as adorable as he is has naturally picked up some bad charateristisc from Tayari. Most of the affection that Jabali gets is from Iriki and D'jeeco. Hence his independent behaviour. Eg foraging for himself. To me Jabali is always hungry. Tayari treats Ringo worse when she kidnaps him. So she just seemed to have got back some of her own medicine. If she spent more time with Jabali, he would not have so much time on his hands even though I love the interaction between Jabali and Ringo. And yes, I am aware that they are not humans but they are very social just as humans are. And who is to know what goes on in their heads.
@@JMO7777 This is one of the happiest troops I have seen of the zoo one's. I have only started watching them and it saddens me to see so many hating on a young baby gorilla. Jabali seems to have incurred the hate of alot of people. Perhaps they need to broaden their watching as much older siblings than him literally drag their younger siblings around . At least until Daddy steps in lol

Well protecting a 1 year old is a bit more involved than a 2 year old, and on top of it she was very gentle.

Tayari can only react on what she sees and hears. She heard her son screaming and saw his aunt on top of him and biting him, so she charged in to save her baby. It's how any decent mother would react. Right or wrong most any parent would rescue their child first and listen reasons later.
Tayari never bites Ringo or is insidious to him like Iriki is to Jabali. She just mainly holds him or drags him.

I agree with you. I have never seen Tayari bite Ringo. If someone has seen this then they need to link the video(s) so that all of us can see it with our own eyes. I honestly wish all of the videographers of these zoos and primate parks would show all the facets of gorillas’ personalities/behaviors as they do with Taipei Zoo. These commenters compare this troop to other gorilla troops at other zoos’ videos they watch, but what they aren’t factoring in is that some of the videographers edit their videos to only show viewers the good and not all facets of gorillas.

Tayari is just a grumpy unsettled aggressive mum, doesn’t want to see others playing and get along well, she knows her own son little J is friendly and close to Iriki, sometimes even trying to stop her snapping Ringo from Iriki,little J is smart but sometimes get confused by his mum’s behaviour,the Zoo should pay more attention to her and offering her some kind of treatments and improve her disciplinary issues

In slow motion: looked like Iriki did bite Jabali on his back-how hard, I don‘t know-and, though we can‘t hear anything, he looked to be screaming, but Tay didn‘t show up right away. Iriki continued giving Jabali a workover, hard to tell if it included another bite. He was definitely wanting mommy at that point. I imagine Iriki gets tired of his pesky tornado behavior. I would. Even DJ does at times. And I often think Jabali could use a little disciplining. When Tay finally arrived she was hell bent, mouth open, and probably making some noise. Iriki jumped straight up in the air. In the tussle, it appeared that Tay caught Iriki with an uppercut to the chest or jaw that sent her over the cliff. DJ seemed totally confused! He stared and stared at Iriki, his mild submissive mate, like What the heck was that? He took neither to task, just stood around dumbfounded, debating. The part that actually tugged at my heart was at 4:11 when Jabali flew off the cliff and Tay caught him in her arms. (I‘m usually no fan of Tay, often wishing Iriki would just stand up and deck her.)
I’m telling you that little kid is a bat! He can fly! I don’t like to see either kid in distress but I wish Iriki would do this when Tay takes Ringo. “Hey! Drop that kid!”
Tayari actually took care of Jabali very much, usually she let Jabali play freely, when Jabali shouted, Tayari immediately rushed to his side and chased away Iriki. Tayari often seems rude to take Ringo away, but her behavior to Ringo is the same as Jabali, so I guess Tayari sees that as a way of training. And Iriki's behavior towards Jabali will never be used to treat Ringo. In contrast, Tayari is actually not as bad as everyone thinks.
@@gorilla.djeeco.family there's usually something left out when people say 'not that bad' and it appears that Ringo's behavior towards his 'auntie' leaves one to think differently. I saw one day when he appeared unafraid to go near her or pass by her (after D'jeeco had had enough and put a couple holes in her). Otherwise Ringo is creeping around looking around corners for her. And as soon as he spots her, he beats a path to his mother. Its mist unfortunate that the whole compound is Jabali's playground while Ringo's is limited to a 5 or 10 foot radius around his mother.
I have not seen a mother gorilla be so brutal to another gorilla's baby but I guess it competition. I'm glad DJ knew who was naughty and stood by Iriki to let her know he wasn't happy with her.

100%! I watch gorilla videos daily, and the way Jabali and Ringo play is perfectly normal. Neither one is playing too rough.

If youve seen older videos you would see different. Iriki has taken Jabali and slammed him on his head multiple times. Its hard to tell here but I see towards end of playing that Iriki is biting a bit too hard and you can see Jabali is in pain and wants out by they way hes grabbing and pulling her hair to let her know it hurts.

It was simple play and Jabali overreacted screaming to mom. It's funny now because I can see this trait in Jabali, he's a bit of a crybaby and Ringo seems more assertive. I wont be the least bit surprised if Ringo is the Alpha over Jabali. He's already giving Jabali all he can handle when they are playing. At the current rate Ringo will be kicking Jabali's azz in a few years.

Tayari is nasty, she’s done some biting on Ringo an when fights start she’s usually the one to start them. She’s possessive of DJeeco. Iriki minds her business an is always off on her own
Rewatched that Iriki was playing a bit hard Tayari was doing the right thing for her boy. They both have there moments
For whatever reasons, Tayari is not the best of mom gorillas. I see a little more of acceptance of Jabali as time goes on but she still rations his milk time. Little Jabali as adorable as he is has naturally picked up some bad charateristisc from Tayari. Most of the affection that Jabali gets is from Iriki and D'jeeco. Hence his independent behaviour. Eg foraging for himself. To me Jabali is always hungry. Tayari treats Ringo worse when she kidnaps him. So she just seemed to have got back some of her own medicine. If she spent more time with Jabali, he would not have so much time on his hands even though I love the interaction between Jabali and Ringo. And yes, I am aware that they are not humans but they are very social just as humans are. And who is to know what goes on in their heads.

@@JMO7777 This is one of the happiest troops I have seen of the zoo one's. I have only started watching them and it saddens me to see so many hating on a young baby gorilla. Jabali seems to have incurred the hate of alot of people. Perhaps they need to broaden their watching as much older siblings than him literally drag their younger siblings around . At least until Daddy steps in lol
