@@bnobston ya don’t forget he’s just a regular dude who knows the industry he works in. Not to discredit him but understand that he’s normal doing basic research and reviews for the industry. This is not mind blowing information to any musicians nor any artists who do the same jobs. If you’re interested in understanding copyright issues you should also do research to understand basic business practices/ patents. All music industry/art industry is having your work essentially be a patented item/idea.
Do research into conceptual work of the 1960s United States to 1960-80 states/international. “How do you take ownership of an artwork that does not physically exist, so that you make profits from its existence, have a designated audience, and not have people mimic the work?” Is that something you should do or will people say ‘hey you’re making money off nothing what a scam!’ And that it wasn’t an evolution of art at all.
All artists work with a 10% change rule, anything that currently exists if you change it by up to 10% you can claim it as being your original work. why? Well if i built a hip-joint replacement part for surgeries, and I made a new and improved version a year later based off the first design that was accepted by FDA standards, then that is a better version that is more helpful and should exist to replace the first hip-joint version. Because it’s already an accepted item by society standards there’s a basis to say that it’s continued development/change is not only needed by society but I need to be compensated for that great idea change that benefits thousands of jobs/people.
Or you can look at memes, there only needs to be a slight difference from one image to the next to get different context, some of those content chains are long/complex. But hey if it’s different enough it can be an NFT. Art is about making money off of property be it physical or conceptual.
While this is all in good nature and people can feel how they feel, professionally, do not refer to people as bitches. The only thing that may happen is you’re considered an ass, no ones gonna give you a crisp high-five at work when you decide to make everyone look bad.

Shit like this is why I, as an independent musician, when I'm uploading new music to Distrokid to be released, I specifically uncheck the box for the release to be added to the database for RUclips automated copyright claims. Granted, the bands I play in aren't big names or anything, but I think it's far more likely that someone's going to get fucked over by the copyright detection system than for it to protect my career in any meaningful way, and unless someone is straight up reposting songs with nothing added, there's no real risk of it harming my band's online presence so we prefer to just let it be (not to mention the part about how Melon is completely correct that a review or commentary is fair use).

As they are in the public domain, there is a certain amount of original additions or alterations which must be made before one could claim that the new work is copyrightable.
It is therefore not only possible for Melon to challenge this notice under the fair use clause, but he could also challenge whether the work is even copyrighted.

I’ve noticed that when AAA Charts does their top 40 lists some of the songs play for a while, but others are cut really short. At least one of them (Money by The Warning) is on UMG, I have a feeling they know not to play UMG videos for any length of time.

I just got a copy right strike for leaving a not totally positive review on an immersive experience called latent spaces. They have left all the positive versions up and only come for mine because it was gaining traction with people saying they wish they had watched it before paying for the tickets. They claimed for artwork but the irony is the artwork in the exhibit was AI which is an interesting concept around copyright. The thing is I can’t really risk contesting if I was bigger I would.

Basically means people in power using their position to privilege relatives, sometimes friends. (Current meaning does not necessitate the recipient to be a nephew)

This appeal process sounds confusing. What does it mean when they say "canceling your appeal will return your video to the state it was in before you began this dispute"? Because that makes it sound like it'd stay the way it was in the first place, and that nothing would change at all.
