    I have the same nomenclature as yours to be honest nothing has been wrong no battery drain. Its not as big as I thought it would be. Also 5lbs. really isn't noticeable to me at all. The only thing I don't like is the sound quality to me sucks I also think that mbp sucks. It's a laptop not a stereo system. The whole thing is everybody seems to want to game with a laptop that isn't made for that purpose? I ordered my laptop directly from Dell. The customer service representative asked me specifically if I were going to game with the laptop. I won't be gaming with it at all. The reason I mentioned this is because the representative said that was important because he said that he could inform them to adjust the drivers in the graphics card. Immediately afterwards he said that with screen refresh rate it would be of little assistance really. Because 60 hertz is all that the screen can give you. The 4k touch screen is very impressive and accurate. Perfect really for WORK ONLY ADEQUATE FOR GAMING. My experience as for leisure use is video editing. The representative didn't exaggerate when he said that's what the graphics card was geared towards. I use DaVinci resolve the free version and I even upgraded a 1080p video to 4k and it actually worked. I must admit when I did that it really got the fans going. The amazing thing was it rendered the video in about the same time frame of the video! Now video that I had already recorded in 4k this includes color grading, animations and special effects in fusion with audio. It rendered it out in under the time of the video. No dropped frames at all amazing. So that's my two cents. Now would I suggest purchasing the dell xps 17. No not at all because if you purchase one the I'll lose my edge!!! Lol Yes if you are looking for a great WORK laptop definitely or creator edition laptop this is the best. Only thing is that quality control but they will send a new one. A bunch of reviews say this. I may have gotten blessed. Have great day.

      I'm assuming you bought the quadro variant? The geforce graphics cards are built to game, their whole driver stack is made for games. The XPS 17 is a computer just like any else it should be able to game just fine. Gaming is less intensive than rendering.

    Cheers Andrew, I'd been looking forward to this particular review! Nice work! I think the issue with the power drain was that some units were only receiving 100W of power instead of the expected 130W. The dipping into the battery when needed if power demands are greater than supply is apparently by design (or it would need a non usb charging system with a bigger power brick), but there was an issue where this "design feature" was exacerbated by the problem with the power not delivering what it should (100 vs 130W). That's the bit Dell has apparently fixed, but like you say, for intensive stuff you might still get a bit of drain happening.

    I have bought this laptop and unfortunately, it has many quality issues. The device started heating and after only one week it stopped detecting the hard disk. The tech support had replaced the SSD but it was a problem of the motherboard that took them about one month to replace. I requested a replacement unit but Dell France have been ignoring my emails for one month now. Overall, awful experience with the device and the tech support of Dell. Avoid it as much as possible especially if you live in France

    I have both the 9300 and the 9500. I purchased both of the units I am using in July, so neither has any quality control issues. I had purchased earlier versions of both and they did have quality problems, so they were returned. Given the novelty of the new XPS design, the very large size of the mechanical track pads, the new proprietary 130 watt Dell designed USB-C power delivery, and the fact that these needed to be released during a global pandemic, I am not surprised there are hardware bugs to work out. I think the real winners will be people who buy next year's version of these products. I'm very happy with mine. I almost wish I had gotten the XPS 17 as a full desktop replacement. Well done AMD!

    I have the same specs as Andrew does. My computer was manufactured in late July it should be the new batch. I tried the game of World of warship, P3D v5 (Similar to MSFS 2020) it does drain battery slowly even with 130w adapter pluged in. However, it doesn't drain battery when I render 3D model in Keyshot9 either under CPU or GPU. I'd say for XPS it's not designed for long time gaming.

    • @maxib.6481
      @maxib.6481 3 года назад

      the 130 watts charger doesnt give the proccesor and graphic all the power they need (at full load) and dell decided that IF the laptop is pluged then it can take a little energy from the battery this way they didnt have to make a bigger charger.

    Great review and I see the high points. On my second one after returning the first one. Same specs as you, really beautiful except I took 2 tb ssd drive. But, if you want to attach an external samsung ssd usb c to the usb c port it won't read it unless something is attached in the port next to it, even if it's just a regular usb flash drive with the adapter. Once the 2nd item is plugged in, it recognizes the ssd right away but not without it. This is the second time it happened, same thing with the first xps 9700 and others have reported the same issue so if you use external ssds often it is annoying. Also, it does get hot, careful to make sure when turning it off that the power goes off and not to sleep especially when storing away.

      The power brick is not the issue. USB-C thunderbolt charging has a 100 Watt power limit. (If you do not believe me go to thunderbolt's web site and read up on the charging specs of these ports.) That is the bottleneck. Until they can come up with a USB port that can charge higher than 100 Watts having a larger power brick will not do any good.

    I had a chance to review both the New Dell XPS 15 2020 and the Dell XPS 15 2019 versions personally.
    My only complaint about the new Dell XPS 15 2020 version is that the
    keyboard is good, but not as good as the 2019 version. I love the
    keyboard travel, and the power button feels SOLID on the older version
    of the XPS.
    My two complaints about the older XPS 15 is that it
    supports only ONE M.2 Slots, and that the speakers are on the downside
    instead of having top firing speakers like the 2020 version does.

My battery stays at 100 percent during heavy gameplay which was the scenario that plagued my old machine that is on its way back to them. However, this Dell 'flagship' currently works with no Dell Active pen... their Tech has confirmed that to me. So we have a fully digitised screen for the XPS 17 but no active pen to use on that super touch-screen. Dell also cannot inform me of any other brand that does an active pen compatable with this otherwise excellent Laptop. Dell's Advertising for this Machine encourages 'unleashing your creativity'. Well, if your creativity involves Digital drawing, sketching, painting or intricate photo manipulation where accuracy is essential, I'm afraid without a workable Active Pen from Dell, and possibly no compatable Active pen from any other maker, you'll certainly have your work cut out soldiering on, trying to 'unleashing your creativity' by drawing with your mouse, your finger or a basic passive pen which will lack funtions an will be too inaccuate. Thanks Dell, you really thought that one through, didn't you.

    • @andrewmarcdavid
      @andrewmarcdavid  4 года назад

      This is not meant to be used with a pen. This is a clam shell laptop. What you are describing would be more suitable to a convertible laptop like the HP Spectre x360 or the like.

      @hansbuchhierlonvinyl6028 4 года назад

      @@andrewmarcdavid While for you, 'unleashing your creativity as Dell advertised, seems to inclued playing games, for others of us, we took Dell's word that this was a 'Creativity encouraging machine and a great deal of creativity happens on a screen on which you can draw, paint and manipulate images. I'll be the judge of the best machine for my persoal needs but an active pen is essential and Dell know that, which is why they have active pens which work with their other 2in1 Laptops,

    Waiting for next years release, basically hoping for AMD processors. Give us a longer lasting, faster/higher performing, cooler & cheaper machine, please. No reason to evade it. And AMD finally can implement Thunderbolt 3 themselves, and if they still choose not to, theres the Intel JHL7540 Thunderbolt 3 controller.
    Do it!!!
    Ps: after returning a fully specced out XPS 13, I beg you to release a 1440p display option with optionally higher luminance and refresh rate. This will save on battery life over 4k and makes the GUI more useable with less scaling
    If you choose not to, explain why not!

I am however having problems with the colours it seems oversaturated with the reds and the contrast is very high. (need Help)

    I want see at least 17 but also the 15 with numped, or at least the option, and speakers on top of the numpad. also in oled option as well, maybe with 120hz, you don't need now internal graphics tao take advantage to 4k 120hz, we have game straming apps, like moonlight, they can stream 4k with 120hz response time, if you have more than 100mbit/s dowload speeds. Please make it dell. you have 1 new customer, amongs many. And please let go that circle around the dell logo. That doesln lokk any good. Make the dell letters, a little bit thickker and yo have a cleaner look. Or make you logo instead of letter like everybody else. It looks better.

    Do not buy if you want to use this laptop to run any DAW applications for music production. I’m experiencing lots of audio pops and dropouts. It is a shame for a premium laptop that cannot handle audio for DAW applications, stick with Mac for simple and rock solid audio performance out of the box. Also XPS 15 has the same audio issue when using DAWs.
