Funniest part of the song is that Okita, a government (Tokugawa Shogunate) soldier as a Shinsengumi lieutenant, shouts out "bakumatsu", which literally means "end era of shogunate (bakufu)".
Isn’t it being said like, “oh no, the end for me!” Samurai Ondo is a dirge, right? He’s singing about the end of the whole thing but he’s going to go out fighting, I think.
Pretty sure he only appears post game. So it kinda fits.

I understood it it as him referring to the event, as he says (at least in the english lyrics) "The days of bakumatsu fill the street with dread" which I took to mean "When the shogunate era ends, the streets will fill with dread".
Of course, I could be wrong.
Pretty sure everyone back in the bakumatsu era knew the Tokugawa shogunate was not gonna last much longer... and the Shinsengumi was pribably the first one to know
Ok, seeing this translated I noticed this AWESOME detail.
When Okita forgets the lyrics, the INGAME lyrics still follows the song correctly, while Okita tries to remember how it goes xD Loooove it.
Personally, I would've loved to see the nonsense translated that Okita tries to sell xD

Typical Majima
It does a similar thing in Dead Souls, majima's version of Get to the Top is nothing like the onscreen lyrics.
0:50 one of my favorite things is when Okita is screaming "ahh! I remember it's Mukurogai!" Hajime's interjections right after are: "didn't I tell you just earlier?" (Referring to the interjection at 0:42 "it's Mukurogai.")

These mad lads not only translated the lyrics, but put them into SINGABLE ENGLISH!
That's a more subtle change I really appreciate with the more modern games, how the translated lyrics nowadays actually understand the tempo of the song and support singing along in English (even if the language is Japanese)

More games/anime need to do this. The earliest example I can think of is the Cake song from Madoka Magica: Rebellion where the lyrics were changed in English to fit the tempo

I love how it's actually a very catchy and uplifting song but majima just straight up forgets half of it and murders the flow
And yet the audience still applauds him
I love and hate him for this, ruining the rythm (failing the game) but somehow make it more amusing
That's Majima. When Haruka actually sang Get to The Top, I thought I was hearing a different song. As it turns out, Majima butchered the tune so much it became a new song.

Ohhhh it's one of those "The lyrics are actually dark" ones. I've gone so long not even knowing it's really a dirge about the death of samurai. If Kiryu's "happy sad" song is Today is a Diamond, seeing Majima get one in this way is interesting. Majima always felt like he either gets sad songs like As Long as You're Happy or pure happy Get to the Top songs. It's also interesting from a kind of "Villainous Death" song since overall the high class samurai and the shogunate were kind of a dictatorship and the game points it out immediately.
I don't know if you noticed, but the translation butchered a lot of things.
They're not really about the death of a samurai, but more about the life of being one.
"Give me a sword and I'm invincible!" (Katana motaserya muteki da ze)
"Samurai-sama no otoori dai!" (Make way, Samurai coming through!)
"Taihou ya teppou ni wa yowai kedo" (Well we're weak to cannons and guns though)
"Ken de sakasu ze yume hanabi" (With the sword, we shall fulfill our dreams)
@@keifujitora6587 Dunno what your definition of "butchering" is, but your examples match almost PERFECTLY with the lyrics in the video to the point where I don't see where you're coming from. If your argument is that the translation isn't super literal... This is a Japanese song. Obviously some stuff is gonna be lost in translation so you can actually sing it.

@@keifujitora6587 Well you have to understand they are not straight translate the song. They start "Localize" the song and made them singable in English since Remastered collection.
The good example is "Pure love in Kamurocho", the English lyrics and Japanese one are quite different. I guess the prefer the player can sing along the way.

Dude, Hidenari Ugaki fucking loves his job. I've seen how happy he is shouting "KIRYU-CHAN!" behind the scenes. He's definitely getting paid and having a good time being the voice of an iconic character.
Man, Goro Majima is Hidenari Ugaki's spirit animal. No wonder Majima-aniki isn't the Shimano Hyena for nothing. He laughs like a hyena, a wild dog. Such as them hyenas from Lion King.

@@epicgamersonly288 you need to go into the singing bar later in the game (I think I was chapter 11) and you'll have 2 of the captains there and another character you can sing with :)

Find and talk to them when you see them at the karaoke bar and agree to sing with them.
How do you get others to sing with you in karaoke? I'm in premium adventure and it just lets Ryoma sing by himself or with a bar patron
the characters you can sing with should sit somewhere in the singing bar, if you talk to them you should be able to sing with them :)

Probably not.
No, only the original release of 1, 7, the Judgement games and the Fist of the North star game have english dub.
I think the localizers said something about there not being a dub for this game solely because they felt it wouldn't mesh well with the fact that this is an actual historical fiction or something to that effect. I don't necessarily agree with that ideology, but fair enough. I am used to playing these games in Japanese anyhow to the point where when I played the games that do have English dubs using them it felt jarring to me.
