Hi Himanshu,
To get a good score, you need to first go through all the fundamental theories and at the same time start practicing a lot that too in a time-bound manner, you can use a stopwatch to keep track of the time for each question. Also, try to complete the theory part asap so that you start practicing mocks, the more mocks you give the more confident you will be.
Keep track of your mistakes/topics which are challenging for you and practice more. You will see the difference in your performance in 1-2 months.

sir i am starting my gmat preparation now (exam planned in october). i am confused about whether to prepare for old gmat or new gmat focus edition. FACT : According to GMAC conversion table a 645 on new gmat focus is equivalent to 710 on old gmat (ie top 10 percentile spread over more to mimic bell curve, also 705 in new gmat is equal to 760 on old- so exam is going to be tougher)
1. But would the admission teams of B-schools overcome the psychological barrier of that 700 score, and fairly and impartially convert new gmat focus edition scores while comparing and shortlisting?
2. should i prepare for new or old version ? -
3. will i get higher percentile if i take new, as i believe fewer candidates are taking newer version or will I get lower percentile (because in October mostly Gmat experts, coaching instructors,veterans will take new gmat)?

Hi Pradhi,
Your doubts are valid, but simple answer to this is - Start with the older version so that you build on your basics first and then eventually switch to the Focus edition so that you have practice of the revised set of questions. Make sure to have the latest edition of official guide, if you are planning to use official guides.
You need to be prepared in every aspect because no one clearly knows how different the exam questions will be, whether the difference will be significant or minimal, so let's not think about it at this moment. Most of the B-schools decide their candidates based on the combination of percentile, score, and your profile, so let's focus to score the maximum you can by practicing both the versions.
