- We love corn on the cob, but it can be a little hard for some people to eat. We reviewed 3 different corn peelers/strippers we found on Amazon. Watch and see how they compare to a basic knife.

Hi! A tip for when you have several cobs to strip. If you have a sturdy Bundt cake pan, stand your ear of corn in the center hole. It steadies the corn, and as you cut the kernels off they land in the pan.

Anybody can make anything look awkward if they try. OXO makes a Corn Prep Peeler that is a Y version. It works very well and is not messy at all. The trick to using these manual peelers is to leave the stalk end attached to the ear of corn so you have a handle to grab. If not, then pull the husk back so it makes a handle. I tried the electric knife with both a trigger button and the thumb button and both made my hand hurt and they got dangerously hot after a few dozen ears at a time. The OXO Corn Prep Peeler does not. Lay the ear down in the cookie sheet, hold the stalk, pull the peeler with the other hand AWAY from the first hand. No chance of slipping and cutting yourself. No hand cramps. No buttons to push. And it cuts close to the cob leaving very little residue behind. Practice makes perfect. And if you grow your own, you can pick with stalk attached.

I accidentally read "double entendres" as "doable entrees". Though, doable entrees could probably be a double entendre in the right context.
My husband decided that this year he wanted us to preserve the yummy goodness of local & low-cost corn (carried at our local grocery) for all year round dinners. My sister told me that her friend is a big fan of the Pampered Chef kernel cutter, so I bought one at a friend's party. Now my spouse is very skeptical of kitchen tools and avoids buying what he calls "one job tools." But-- while I was away one evening, he used the Kernel Cutter on several ears that I had blanched that afternoon, and he loved it! He even recommends it to others now. He vacuum sealed and froze the corn with a pat of butter in small 2 person servings, so come winter, yummy corn for our family.
I usually love anything Pampered Chef! We weren’t aware they had such a gadget...should’ve known! Thanks!

PXT1958 Oh thank you! That's exactly who he quotes .... my old brain couldn't recall Alton's term for it. Alton has ruined my kitchen gadget window-shopping ... hubby will say, "but like Alton says, it only does one thing."
And he's right. I miss Good Eats. Iron Chef America was good but Good Eats was really good.

I think you should rotate/twist that Corn Plane as you push down, "sawing" off the kernels rather than shearing them off. Just guessin'.

The round one is made to twist back and forth when you are shelling corn. It would work great if you did that.

I have the first one Robbin tested and it works like a charm!! Don't press down to hard, just slide it down the cob!! Mine is made of a harder plastic. I got mine 6 years ago🌽

When there are no directions, ask the corn to lend you an ear. And in spite of any corny questions you may have, a healthy ear of sweet corn always has at least a kernel of wisdom to guide you...
Funny video! 😂 I have a different one of the “mouse” type ones and it works really good and has held up. It actually seems a safer way to go than a knife with your hand further from the blade. Keep up the great videos!

My best corn off the cob way is Birds Eye Corn Steamers. Even tastes like corn off the cob. Of course with a knife, you get the corn milk too. Thanks for the fun demo.

I use a knife and draw the blade (paring knife) between the kernels every 3 columns from end to end (between the kernels, not through them). You cut deep enough to ensure you get deeper than the germ. THEN you cut the columns you seperated off. The mouse or senior might help here.
If we have corn on the cob we eat it off the cob otherwise we just buy frozen or canned corn. 😉
My thoughts, use a griddle and you can brown it just as easily or air fryer
great review, but i think i will stick with method of using a knife. i do a lot of canning of corn so i need to be quick. i use a angel food cake pan and i stick the cob in the center hole and slide the knife right on down and all the corn goes into the pan, quick and easy. so if you are cutting up a lot of corn this way i have found to be the less messiest, and the pan will hold about between 8 and 12 ears worth of cut corn depending on the size of the cobs.

PolkaDotsAndPaisley I'd never don that. Too fast and they're really hyper. Too slow and they're drunk. Both work for me. Slow is best. Two drunk women figuring out how to cut kernels off of corn. Hilarious at half speed.

On the yellow round on I think you did it backwards. I think the teeth curl in a bit and I think that's to milk the cob. I could be completely wrong but worth a try. If it had handled like a apple slicer does it would work so much better.

As much as I love gadgets, the knife is definitely the winner. I bought some corn holders from QVC and it came with a corn cutter. Haven’t tried it yet but we love corn and bean salad. Gonna have to see if it’s better than these😂Thanks for the review😃

I am glad I have a good old fashioned corn peeler.
I admit I use a drill to speed the process, but I can get 100 ears of corn done in 15 minutes.

Think I'll stick with my trusty knife. I do have a gadget I purchased 10-15 yrs ago .It DID work but it took up too much space, plus it had super sharp blades. Almost like the last gadget but without the plastic. Just the circle of jaws and two things to hold. Great video. Glad all fingers are intact and the flying corn wasn't damaging. No Aprons? Lol🌽

Robyn seems put off by the danger of some of these gadgets and how casual Cathy is swining that knife around. Aren’t these corn slicers supposed to make removing the corn easier and safer, maybe cleaner too? Ya, I gotta go with the general consensus on this one and place my vote for the knife. I’ve already got one and I’m not filling a drawer with junk that that doesn’t work any better, really.

Simple is best. And everyone has a knife, so if ur at a bbq and want to cut the corn off for whatever reason can just go grab a knife easy peasy. The mouse thing seemed alright tho

Awesome show! Gotta love some suspense in a review, so I was waiting for the mouse to break in half across the top (who puts the grip-pads for squeezing on either side of the flimsiest part? ridiculous), & the ring one to snap the cob & send pieces all over the kitchen :P
I second the opinion that 'senior' refers to senior citizens - it has the same design of vegetable peelers that have a horizontal blade, which were originally designed & marketed to people with arthritis or other health issues that reduce your ability to grip & manipulate the old standard vertical-blade peelers, but these days everyone seems to use them.
Personally I find them uncomfortable & far less finely-controllable than vertical blade peelers, but I know ppl who like the horizontal blade & say you can peel much faster with them & that they don't care if the end result isn't pretty - & I can see the merit of that if you've got kids or just better things to do :D

There is a reason why I'm not married, this just confirms my reasons.
My mom just used a knife , works great, and when you've got dentures you can't typically eat it off the cob Which is why she had to use a knife , but she just left it on it's side and cut it off , didn't scrape down like most people do.
I won't even say what that last cutter made it look like!!!!! I'm sure dirty minds like myself can figure it out rather easily lol

Teeth work for most people, but if you have braces or dentures eating corn on the cob can be a challenge.
