Bottles is AWESOME so I donate a small amount to them every month but I use/purchase Crossover because of all the work the CodeWeavers do to Wine. I pretty much exclusively use Steam so I don't really need to work around non-steam games.
I prefer Heroic for game launcher/library. With Lutris as backup, though mainly just for emulator games. Bottles for me is mainly for running a game quickly with from file manager, and for managing wine prefixes. Also, Lutris worked great for me from Flatpak. Plus, some of the complicated wineprefixes for running visual novels just cannot be done on Bottles, unfortunately.
I can't run certain games for example Fortnite on the Heroic launcher because the anticheat system blocks access to the game, do you have a solution please
I've been using Linux for a long time but only switched my game library over. I had about 35 games on Windows 10 and figured I'd be lucky to get half of them working. Only *one* failed to work, and that was because of Easy Anticheat. Of those that worked, only one required any tinkering whatsoever, and that just to choose a different Proton version. Everything else *just worked*. I am *extremely* impressed.

Unfortunately, for me as a gamer, it was quickly over. But thanks to the compatibility, the tide has now turned and videos like yours have made me take another look at the system. What can I say - it runs like a dream and sometimes games better than on windows. People, take your time, learn how linux works and switch. I use Fedora 41 and it runs like clockwork and everything is nice and tidy and the software offer is also great. No bloatware, no inconsistency - it's a new feeling of using a pc.
Yeah Lutris always shits the bed on me too. It's odd that it was, at one point in time, the most recommended package for people trying to play a game or two on Linux. It's a lot easier to just set up an environment with Bottles like you've shown in the video. Good stuff.
Lutris is my go to atm. Tried to play Epic Games GTA V on Heroic launcher but the horrible audio static like bug forced me to try Lutris and it is much better over there with the same performance as Heroic. Never had a good time with Bottles before. It has always been Steam and Lutris on Linux for me.
Lutris seemed easier at first, but now I install games using Bottles. You start with more of a blank slate but it's easier to understand what you are doing with it; less automation means you can solve problems when they arise.

In theory this should allow you to run games that even modern Windows have trouble with. The main reason is because it allows you to fabricate your own Windows environment environment and manipulate variables. In Windows, you only have "compatibility mode" which doesn't work very well....with that said, I still can't get the retail DVD version of Bioshock (2007) to work. If anyone here knows how, let me know. There was a method for getting it to work in Windows 10/11 but it's not working anymore. Probably a Windows update broke it.

Not the application unfortunately. Gamepass is a bit tricky, since its not just an exe running, but it utilizes UWP (or whatever its called), which is not Wine compatible as it integrates with the Microsoft store and Account. Valve has been trying to get Microsoft Gamepass to Steam like EA Play, but Microsoft seems to be a bit against it. I don't think its because of Linux, since they are quite open minded in their gaming business, but rather being on Steam on Windows, rather than their own app.
Linux is for lowend gamer, if you want quality like all new Features from nvidia, only windows is the way. Nvidia, HDR, VRR, RTX HDR, DLSS Rayreconstruction, Framegeneratin, GPU undervolting or OC, all together you dont get it at once in linux. Even in 2030 you wont get. The communtity is big on linux but they dont put the efford together. Also to much distros, then not equal kernel version, moddified kernels.... Wayland, x11 or much more, whats the right to choose. Noway, stay away as a gamer from linux if you want quality gaming. And think about, over 80% own nvidia cards! If nvidia dont make the step to linux, linux will never be No. 1 for gaming / desktop. Truth prove: over 20 years they only hit 4% of users, mostly thanks to VALVE! I know truth hurts. But dont fool yourself, accept it. Time comes for Linux gaming, but this i say for now over 25 years...

Been using windows since 95 it's not an easy switch. I have tried Linux a few times, but the countless incompatibility issues drove me back to Windows every time... Which is about as stable as a house of cards in an F5 class tornado. But at least stuff works there because everything is made for it. Linux is just an afterthought at best for devs. But it's still so bad otherwise compared to Linux. I honestly wish Windows will fall and Linux will be the new king so devs will make stuff for it. Or some other OS emerges to save us.
bottles doesn't work properly for me. maybe because I install it thru pacman and not flatpak. maybe i'll give it a try someday.
Depends on the maintainer I guess.
I feel like Bottles has improved a lot in the past year
Fortnite from the Epic Game Launcher ?
Installation yes, online play no.
Epic didn't enable Anti Cheat support
Does this work for gamepass PC?
Not the application unfortunately.
Gamepass is a bit tricky, since its not just an exe running, but it utilizes UWP (or whatever its called), which is not Wine compatible as it integrates with the Microsoft store and Account.
Valve has been trying to get Microsoft Gamepass to Steam like EA Play, but Microsoft seems to be a bit against it.
I don't think its because of Linux, since they are quite open minded in their gaming business, but rather being on Steam on Windows, rather than their own app.
How to play valorant on linux? This is the only game I play on pc. I am unable to switch to linux fully because of this.
Not possible due to having kernel level AC.
Does this work for photoshop?
a not vey legal version of it?👀
It would technically work for the real thing as well. New releases tend to break sometimes, but it is often being fixed within a couple of months.
@@MichaelNROH that's great

Why do people still try to play Windows games on Linux? That's pointless.
Because that's basically 98% of all games
Ahi ya tenias instalada una distribución de linux? Cual y como lo hizo 😢
Just use portproton ❤
Except it doesn't work
