    Brown hair. Also, when it comes to super hero figures, I only like soft goods when it's either the cape or jacket.
    I don't like the doll looking migo/Mezco looking thing, but having a cloth cape or jacket allows for some great dynamic posing and flexibility. When it's done well (like here), it's better than plastic

    Cloth where it makes sense, I prefer cloth for wired capes and jackets because you get to decide where the wind is coming from, not the sculptor. It’s just that added bit of articulation.

    Questions: Red. Yes, when cloth is done right. Thanks for the review Anthony. Mafex did a good job on this product. Price isn't an obstacle when quality contributes to the product's worth. I'd rather pay premium dollars knowing that the product is the ultimate version of the character that I want. A $90 Gambit is worth every penny knowing I won't need to upgrade it for awhile.

    I appreciate the review! Thus far, having watched over a dozen reviews of this figure over the past year, you are the only person who has not gushed hysterically. "He is the best 6" figure ever made!" has been spewed out and repeatedly like Project Mockingbird patients. In a review, an objective review (ideally), I want everything picked apart, particularly when they are premium figures. This is $200 Canadian or more. Loose ankles? Lacking in torso articulation? Lacking detail/paint on the accessories? Wonky proportions? Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes! These are the questions I want asked and ideally answered in an impartial way. At $200, it better be near perfect. They never are. That's fine, I can vote with my wallet. I like the design and the character enough that I will spend the money, but now I know exactly what to expect when I get it in hand. It won't be the best 1/12 scale action figure ever, but it will be a nice one in my collection. Thanks for the honesty. It is always refreshing.

    I personally prefer plastic clothing/jackets. I have pondered why that is and I think that consciously it's because they automatically convey a durability factor that is consistent with the plastic of the figure. Yet subconsciously, I think that plastic clothing is the feature that primarily separated my action figures (which were engineered for action-packed play) from my sisters' Barbie Dolls (which were designed for playing dress-up) when I was growing up, so cloth goods just remind me of dolls now instead of action-packed, masculine, throw around in the mud if you want, action figures! Just a perspective thing I guess. That being said, specifically designed cloth goods can have a place in my collection though I don't know if I like them until I see them.

    I probably prefer plastic in place of soft goods, but I'm not against them. I think for this release, where articulation is supposed to be a major selling point, the wired coat makes sense. If they could have included both that would be best, but I don't know what that would do to the budget. A good comparison is Mondo's upcoming Gambit in its sixth scale line based on the cartoon. For that, Mondo went plastic and I think that's the way to go for that release. You're not going to put it in a crazy pose on your shelf and their ultimate goal is to capture the look of the animated series and soft goods just can't pull that off. This coat looks like it turned out well enough which is a good thing as Mafex doesn't always do the best job with capes. I have their Hush Batman and that cape is obnoxious. Way too big and not enough wires. The Magneto cape looks to have similar issues, but I have no plans on getting that.

    The cloth's an instant deal-breaker, personally. I'd like to get this but not at full price; would have to swap the coat for plastic from some other figure. Plastic almost always trumps soft goods on 1/12 when it comes to characters meant to be sharp. The vast majority of these things make the characters look like poorly-dressed dorks wearing clothes several sizes too big, for lack of a better desciptor. And the stitching and out-of-scale texturing are major eyesores too since they give the scale away.
    Only times I can think of cloth looking good is cases like Mezco's Captain Nemo where the character's outfit isn't supposed to be form-fitting or sharp in the first place, or their Dr. Fate where they're channeling Alex Ross' style that allows a bit of looseness in the fit.

I guess it comes down to can you do it without cloth.
    If this Gambit has fully and correctly detailed arms under the coat, then I might actually like this a lot. At least it’s wired, unwired coats and capes are the worst. I do like the lanky Gambit over the later super buff Jim Lee sexy Gambit.

    I generally prefer plastic over cloth goods because usually due to wiring the cloth is just too thick and bulky. I always think of the mezco DKR cape as being what I like, the right thickness, hangs nice. I know why people want posable cloth capes but I think it ruins the look. Mafex Magneto made it work though. Weirdly, I've got a really decent cloth long coat off the WWE Elite Walter. But that figure is like 8 inches tall so scaling fudges a bit. The SS SHF Kamen Rider Wizard skirt piece is another bit of really good wired cloth.
    Also the lanky forearms and shins dont super bother me, they kinda add the comic book stylization.

    • @tonileo9849
      @tonileo9849 Год назад

      For Gambit i think Mafex made the right choice, you can really do a lot of poses which is kinda required fot a dynamic character like him. A plastic coat could ve worked maybe if there were different wind swept lower sections but at the same tie its still limiting tho, unless they went the Revoltech route and made ball pegs for the coat.

    • @graefx
      @graefx Год назад

      Yeah don't get me wrong, I think trenchcoats are near impossible to pull off on a 6 inch scale. Android 21 has a decent plastic one. The material is just too bulky for Gambit imo, it looks like a fleece jacket. Threading the needle of a proper material weight and keeping the thing feeling premium is non-trivial. And that's before a wire comes into play.

    Sometimes I just don't understand why some companies will have a homerun figure with like 10/10 articulation, then fall on their face on the next figure. Like, do they not have the same team working on them, or is there just something I don't understand. Mafex has made some of my personal favorite figures in my collection, their comic miles morales is so good. Then I got their terminator, and while it looks great, half the joints are loose. They got rid of a bicep swivel and it's just a weird rotation around the joint. idk, sometimes I think they just way overengineer stuff like figuarts love to do. I'm gonna say it every video, Jada ftw!

    If it's this good then I prefer cloth. If it's like that horrendous new McFarlane dark knight Bane figure then plastic

  • @stygianhoplite

    I'll always believe plastic is superior to cloth; cloth just feels so out of place on most figures. Gambit's jacket looks a bit frumpy imo. The inner stitching is pretty awful to look at. Maybe something like Figuarts' ultra flexible plastic on figures like Sasuke and Geto would have worked quite a bit more nicely.

    For me, Gambit has brown hair. As for the cloth coat, I thin it works with bigger scales. For 6", seems out of scale.

  • @FREKKI

    1. Brown hair.
    2. I think a pleather material is best for jackets because it kind of fits with action figure plastics. The jacket Toybiz did for their Blade figure was great imo.
