What a great tutorial on burnishing! You covered subjects I had never heard before. I couldn't imagine what you would talk about for half an hour on burnishing leather, but you held my interest and I learned more refined techniques than I have been using. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
If we had a more effective technique, than we wouldn’t still be watching! This video has helped me so much, there are countless edge burnishing tutorials on RUclips, none of them go into detail like this. Thank you very much, your leather work is beautiful, and this has upped my game.
hi,sir! awesome video.Thank you for sharing your experience.one question please that 10:24 is it only water you have used in edge finishing? Thank you!
A 1x30 harbor freight belt sander is great for doing edge sanding. Best to use 220 to 400 grt belts for a straight clean edge. I finish with 800 grit sandpaper lightly done by hand and then the burnish is magnificent. Note do not use sanding belts on metal or hardwood before sanding leather, only same belts for leather and light wood. Also get a belt cleaner and your leather belts will last a long time.
I am making extra long leather dog leads 9' long, so that's 18 feet to burnish. It takes a long ling time, what would you recommend please. The security are working dog leads and will also need to be water proofed, again what would you recommend. Thank you for you video.
Fantastic detail on burnishing! One question with finishing edges. I often use a chrome tan gusset for my pouches. What's the best way to finish the edge with mixed leathers?
What contact cement is used by cobblers or shoemakers, you didn't give a name to the cement they use? I used to use Barge, but it's too stringy and messy. I now use Weldwood contact cement.
Hi Chris, if I wanted to add dye using this method when is the appropriate time? I often do natural neatsfoot finishes on the leather with black edges.
Just starting out in this hobby. Your videos are so helpful and your products are beautiful.
Thank you!

I don't work with chrome tanned leathers, but people I know that do usually use an edge paint.
Do you actually sharpen your beveler or just strop? What compound?
Thanks!
Just strop with green compound.
Is the process the same for a peice of leather that is going to bend? Like the belt loop of a knife sheath for instance
Yes, it is.
Thank you for the reply. I Appreciate your content!

I use KS bond, or I'm trying a new one called Top-fit from Germany I also like.
@@FischerWorkshopsTaiwanThanks; KS Bond sounds familiar, do you know who carries it?

I usually apply the dye before burnishing, but if you sand it several times, then you can also reapply the dye as needed.
What kind of wax specifically is that?
It's a hard wax from Japan, called Columbus wax. It's used for leathercraft
Does this process also apply to thinner leather 5/6 oz? It seems so thin for this method.
Yes, it can. I do this also for 5/6 oz leather. The wax will make the burnish last longer... 😊
23:35 Why you beveled only 1 side?
I just wanted to demonstrate how the beveler worked on thin leather, but only intended to burnish the straight edge. Thanks!
Hi if you're reading this have a good day
I am! Thanks and the same to you 😉
Nice video but it’s Cement not see-ment
