Can I just say that I really appreciate that you don’t use only stick thin girls in your product photos. None of these girls are fat but I appreciate that you don’t put unrealistic weight expectations in your marketing. It makes such a difference to me and I’m sure to so many other young people.xx

I just think we all really want to succeed and are just insecure about achieving our goals and how to get there. It just makes you compare yourself to others and i dont know, its like you have to get out of those bad things happening(like injuries) to you as soon as possible. For me it just feels like time flies sometimes and you want to use all this time as efficiently as you can to get to your goals the fastest. However, like you said, everything is about making little steps. But seeing other people on the internet that have succeeded already, really puts pressure on younger people sometimes, for me at least.

I love what you said on body positivity about turning insecurities into something positive. It’s so different to what I’ve heard before and I feel so so much better and less self conscious when I’m dancing now. I can go to my class on Thursday feeling empowered because of you Claudia, thank you xx

The fact that someone as slender as yourself was told you were 'bulky' is the reason I never did dance when I was younger. I'm twice as 'bulky' as you at least, I was thicker and often stronger than boys in my year and was teased relentlessly for it. I'm only now starting to feel comfortable being a big thick woman and have gotten into powerlifting which I love, but one of my goals is to be able to shoulder press 40kg and one day maybe attempt to lift a ballerina (if I can find one who will let me try) That's what my body is designed to do

im not a dancer i am a martial artits (capoeira) and i have some of the same problems, have to say the most common problem i have is dealing with other girls talking bad about me and being told im not good enough for not doing acrobatics like others do, all this bad comments are always from other students like me not teachers. My teacher always tells me that is because they havent got the same opportunities as i do and their teachers dont let them grow and that causes this attitude. it it hard not compared to others i guess im just lucky i have a teacher that helps me alot the way, and also your videos, i love it when you do this type of videos

I love this video! You gave some great helpful advice! To answer your question if you look up “negativity bias“ in psychology I think that explains a lot of the negative questions. It’s actually a survival mechanism and the way our brains are wired. The fascinating thing is with certain practices, including consciously trying to shift your thinking patterns, studies have shown you can literally forge and strengthen new neural pathways. So we do have a degree of control over this tendency. I think the rise of social media and increased communication causes it to be more visible than it was in the past, with people sharing so much of their lives and thinking with bigger audiences.

I've made this my must-watch video EVERYDAY. I agree with some comments here - Claudia you NEED to make a "advice with Claudia" series and touch on different topics in each episode. We could use these exceptional advice on a daily basis! :) We can all benefit from videos like this because everything you're saying here can be applied to both the dance world and the non-dance world.

  • @danish5260

Love your videos. You are really inspiring and insightful. All people have particular value, and dance is great - not just in getting into schools which happens to some and not just getting a career which some will have - but dancing should be fun and healthy for all (up to the point where your body is not suited for it anymore).
Having goals is great - go for the. And letting go of them for other goals is also great (as you have) - letting them define you is not and loosing them is the end of them - not the end of you. My advice: Be all the dancer you can possibly be - but be yourself, because we have other dancers, but we only have you to be you.
The misserable may stem from believing that you can be all you want (don't get me started on laws of attraction), even something that you are not - and that 'believing in yourself' is suddenly the same as obtaining success and all your dreams come true or becoming your own idol. In dance I think, it is taking the loveliness of dreams, goals and hard work out of the cheer love of dancing.
I think Balanchine was quoted for saying: "I don't want people who want to dance, I want people who have to dance." - I think we need dancers who also love to dance. And dance teachers who love to teach - and as you are loved for teaching.

My husband really enjoys playing tennis. He was just finishing up at the Tennis Court when 3 women who had lost their fourth asked him if he would play with them and of course he was delighted to oblige. He was mystified when the women seemed to apologize for a good shot. They would say "you would have got that," or "I got lucky on that one". A male player would have shouted "THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!" He asked me why and I couldn't answer him except to say "I don't know but I've done the same thing." It must have something to do with how girls are socialized and it does have some advantages as far as team building and whatnot. But when we internalize it we might as well drink poison. What if we started or ended each day with "I am very good at *******" or "I knocked that one out of the park".? I would love to hear your thoughts. Oh, and this video? THAT'S what I'm talking about!

    i didn’t explain that well
So I am 15 in 10 grade at science course (I went to science course because I liked it a lot but now I don’t want to be in the classes , I don’t feel motivated to study and I don’t like what I am studying). I found out a professional dance contemporary course and I want to switch courses but to be in the dance course you need to do exams , interview and the only time a had dance class were ballet 3 to 6 years old and contemporary 6 months at 12 years old , if I get selected in that course I have other possibility’s because that course has psychology and maybe I can do forensic psychology

I think it's just the toxicity of the dance world and it has gotten way worse with social media. You see the same 5 dancers over and over. Or the same 2 studios/companies and it makes you feel like if you aren't there and doing that, you are invalid as a dancer. And social media makes you feel like you aren't good even though though probably are!

Depression and low self esteem are my problems, I've always been a failure in life for whatever I do and it has come to the point that I will never believe in my self anymore.

    • @allsmiles1808
      @allsmiles1808 3 года назад

@Lucille Bennett Thank you, I will try. That's what my bf told me too, start with small goals. I feel that I need to learn to feel good about myself, that's the problem. Like sometimes I set a small goal and I get it done, but then I tend to be a wet blanket by telling myself that it's just a small achievement, no big deal... You're right, its high standards...I just wish I can learn to tell myself it's ok and like lower my expectations

    • @BalletNews

You’re not a failure! Even if you get something wrong, it doesn’t define you. Do your best each time and then remove yourself from the result - you can’t do any more and you are enough. Please don’t beat yourself up. Download the headspace app and practice every single day. That’s going to help switch your mindset. I hope this helps you.
