From Italy. Whenever I can i never miss an episode of Angelique. I know she is not the character she interpreted, She is another person with another name and her own life but after all what else all actors are !!!!!! she she was graceful due to her dance training, her natural beauty and her acting capability which must not be undermined. By the way...what a wonderful way to learn history and the comomplexity of the court of France in the 16th century!

Michele Mercier had the Angelique role "stuck to her skin" all her life, nobody wanted to see her in another film. I think that's why it was like a burden later in her life this movie, but for the fans what an experience! we can never forget her in this role, for ever and ever...
I love her so much! No one could play the roles she played better, no one ever could replace her. She's iconic, beautiful, wonderful. I wish she had that one love that would have made her the happiest, because she wanted to be loved and gave her all to love. No matter how much she's changed, I still love her and she's one of my childhood idols and It's my dream to meet her.
Michelle Mercier is the icon for the French & far abroad. I am recalling times when our grandmothers shared with us the story of beautiful, smart, intellectual, goal oriented French lady & at the same time persistent, courageous, loyal, witty, aristocratic Angelique.

Vladimíra Svatoňová when it was decided to make a movie of the sensational novel "Angélique", that Michèle got her chance. Many actresses were approached to play the role of Angélique. Producer Francis Cosne wanted Brigitte Bardot for the part. She refused. Annette Stroyberg was considered next, but judged not sufficiently well-known. Catherine Deneuve was too pale, Jane Fonda spoke French with an American accent, and Virna Lisi was busy in Hollywood. The most serious actress considered was Marina Vlady.
She almost signed a contract, but Mercier won the role after trying out
for it - she did not appreciate this very much since she was being
treated like a beginner at a time when she was already well known in
Italy. At the time she was contacted to play Angélique,
she had already acted in over twenty films. During the next four years
she made five sequels which enjoyed astonishing success. However the
role of Angélique, "the Marquise of the Angels", was both a blessing and a curse. It catapulted her to almost instant stardom, rivalling Brigitte Bardot in celebrity and popularity, but the character of Angélique overshadowed all other aspects of her career. By the end of the 1960s, the names Angélique and Michèle Mercier were synonymous

Elle était d'une beauté unique, sidérant et incomparable lorsqu'elle jouait à être Angelique...Et quelle féminité, quels charme et audace ...Mais peut être qu'au fond dans la vie réelle et privée de la vie d'Angelique ce n'était plus qu'une simple jolie femme qui en plus se mit à s'abîmer tres vite comme si sa beauté n'avait été qu'extérieure pendant un court moment de vie ? Elle jouait tres bien ( enfin, je n'oserais pas aller vérifier par peur d'être déçue )et ces 5 films d'Angelique ont fait rêver la France entière tous les étés à chaque rediffusion pendant des lustres....Erotisme historique des années soixante ?
