Went to HF and this is the same engine they sold me for a replacement on the woodsplitter. Very glad you shared your fix to the issue for the brake and throttle.

I used that same engine as a replacement on my pressure washer. It was easy to remove the engine break just pull off the engine cover to access it and I left the lever in place as the electrical kill switch. I put a small light duty spring on it for engine shut down I just push the lever forward for a half second that grounds out the ignition to kill the engine with no engine break to disrupt operation . the whole job took me ten mins. Engine runs great pressure washer is like new

Thank you for this video. I appreciate the "two year update".
I watched yours and a couple others using this engine for a log splitter.
Last week I put the same engine on my nearly 30 year old 20 ton Speeco splitter. (The original 5 hp Tecumseh finally quit, and I had already replaced the hydraulic pump on mine a few years ago.) The Harbor Freight (Predator) 5.5 hp price is up just over $200 now, FYI, and this is the ONLY vertical shaft engine they sell. Still a lot cheaper than any other engine I could find "in store".
I too used wire to bypass/rig the throttle issues. Other than a minor hydraulic line re-route to avoid the new exhaust it was a direct bolt in for my splitter.
The fuel line is pretty flimsy thin rubber on it, and I'll replace it soon with "real" fuel line (and a filter).

I did the same thing. After running it the first day I went back out and it would not start. After trying a couple of days to try to get it to start I took the motor back off, fixed the old motor. Took the motor back to Harbor Freight and got my money back. There are some things that work well from Harbor Freight but there's also some junk. I've been back using the old motor for about 4 years now and still going

it be the same if you install this on a pressure washer in addition to tying the brake open tie the throttle open to the cable mount. as wire a kill switch to it as you have to pull the plastic cover, starter and shroud and cut the wire to the magneto coil to the brake and strip it and wire it to the kill switch and wire the other end to the switch to the engine block and it will shut the engine off.

Surprised there hasn't been issues from not running a cast iron flywheel

None that I can see. What would you foresee happening?

@@joerootsr Vibration or in some cases the load from the flywheel/blades create a smooth load that helps idle conditions.

The mower replacement engines have aluminum flywheels because the blade helps balance the engine. It would run much smoother and more powerful with a cast iron flywheel made for non blade applications.

Just installed, and not successful, no start, no run, after 1p0 pulls and a sprained wrist and finger from it kicking back n ripping the starter cord out of my hand severel times.
I checked every thing externally , ok
Just farts n backfires when ripping ths cord from my hand,
I quit, never had such problems with a new engine

The flywheel is too light, it needs the inertia of the mower blades to complete the fourth cycle , I found out the hard way as I broke two bones , hand and wrist when the handle was ripped from my hands while starting it. Get a heavier flywheel or epoxy wheel weights under the aluminum one!!! It works fine now!!!
