My Carl HD400 is acting weird. SWRs on base antenna is 1.19 ch1 & ch 40 with box off. Driving it with 1.5 watts from a Stryker 955. When keyed, the SWRs on ch 1 start counting up., 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9 etc. When keyed on ch 40, the SwRs stay at a constant 1.19. All this with no modulation and using a LP-100a meter (between amp and antenna). 1ft jumper from radio to amp, 6 foot jumper from amp to meter. Using rg 400. Carl said to just use a longer jumper. That helped very little if any. Anyone ever have this SWR osculation before? How did you fix it...cause I've just about had it with this amp.
Try changing the output cap to something more heavy duty and less temperature sensitive, it is usually attached to the output combiner and about 120-140pf. like this www.ebay.com/itm/224497766282?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=8je0C6ntRH6&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=MwjwJwTrSBS&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
@@BellsCB Awesome. What about dealing with a high swr input...or rather, tuning an amps output so that your radio's swr input isn't so high when keying.
Take it to a local tech and ask him to slow it down. They don't have large enough exhaust holes for the full volume of that fan anyway, so slowing it down may actually improve cooling air flow and quiet it down to boot. 𝑺𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒘𝒅𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝘽𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙨 🔔 𝘾𝘽
Clean in does equal clean out but also need clean harmonics from box as well. It's not as much amp as radio though. Easy fix for most. Now myself those amps are not for me and out of respect I leave it at that.
I’ve got 3 Carl built HG boxes! Love them!
I've got one and love it. Plan on ordering two more
@@unclequack5445 never heard anything like that
I hope you start carrying them I have heard good things about them amps
Carl built basically the best
I can imagin what a 24 pill would do????

I had similar issue but it was a problem with my antron99 antenna
@@GR-RadioSouthCarolina I sent the amp back. Even Carl couldn't tell me what was wrong. The purchase was refunded.
Hi, I have an astron 70m power supply, Would you know if my power supply would drive that amp? Also, is it for sale? Thanks
Carl recommends a 110 amp power supply. With this one being biased, a 110 amp would be what you want.
Yeah a 120 amp would work. These amps guzzle amps.
My radio drives it to 700 watts using 60amps @ 13.5 volts
Nice amps. Although my amp. has a very noisy cooling fan.

@@BellsCB Thanks for the info.
I wonder if he would a fan that was sent to him. Noctua make some awesome, quiet fans. Popular in computer towers and known for their longevity.
@@TXLoneStar_ Excellent question. Does anybody know the answer?
@@soylentgreen6476 I emailed him and asked. No response yet.
Nice
Nice amp.
There website dont even say how many watts any of the amps do.
I have a carlbuilt... it is very dirty... I expected better out of the ssb biased 400
Clean in equals clean out.
@@billd4281 , no shit loser. My signal going in is great. The amp was poorly built.
