This was fun to Watch, I was a carnie for 30+ years , Johnsons Shows and a few Smaller ones up north, I sat up and Ran the Eli 12 Seater, Ground mount Wheel.
I want to take this time to let you know how much I enjoy your videos. I am really impressed with your attention to detail and professionalism you demonstrate on your assembling of your rides and how much care you give your equipment. Also your attention to detail for the riders and their safety. I can't imagine the various people that you come across at the events. It must be a real joy to be able to work as a family with your business. Thank you for all you do. Sam
I hope you get this I just found your Channel from 79 to 1980 I worked at a small carnival it was very small they had an Eli 12 ferris wheel it was his baby it was made in 1925 we took care of that thing like it was his own kid so I know what you're talking about about heavy lifting thank you
Your wheel is fearfully and wonderfully made... much like a GE mobile imager. That's the amusement you want to set up and tear down. Less work = more money.
I love Ferris wheels. Back in the late ‘60s, I worked part-time at Joyland Park in Wichita. I was usually the relief operator since I knew all the rides, but my favorite was their big 16 seat Eli wheel. That big wheel, being cable drive, was finicky about being balanced. It takes a good eye and a gentle touch to do it right. I still love the older rides
I like your videos brings back memories I used to work for a carnival years ago and I worked on a crew that had a ride called the Himalaya and it took us about 6 or more hours hours to get it setup I had enjoyed it but we didn't always put up the scenery each time except the day we were going to have an inspection but the only thing was that the owners didn't want to make the time to repair the brakes on the thing so that we had to load it up the passengers so that the thing wouldn't roll around when one of the crew was underneath the ride to check things out before each ride during the day they were open to the public to go on the ride
I love watching your video. But I recently got to look at a carnival from Scotland and I could not believe how old and the rides where not taken care of. Meltham Broadlands Fun Fair Build Up
Heads up watch your head operating these wheels. The elephant ear passes just a foot from you. Also, if unbalanced it will back spin towards the rear of the trailer. Also Most inspectors don't catch that light modifications. Love the side mounted spoke lights.
You know that you can work some for KMG or some other type of ride manufacturer. You would be very good at teaching how to set up rides when they are delivered.
The tower cables carry load when the wheel is unbalanced. They are used to true the whee. The outriggers can also assist in drive cable a linement. By pushing the wheel to one side or the other.
Nicely done. 14yrs running Garbrick wheels for Taylor and son's. Why didn't you not use the A brace and set it up the other way. Also you didn't show twisting the locking the lock pins on the hub. To lock the pivot spokes. Or removing the cradle that holds the spokes in travel.
I prefer Eli with the cable dereck on the axle and the rim irons are hinged between the spokes.. also Eli the elephant ears stay on the spokes , they fold up.. do you have problems with the cable slipping on such a small bull gear?

I do love vintage machines. This video reminds me of the early 2000s vibe.

Great vid. I love how its a family business. I was always fascinated by fair ride setup.
I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Gary! We appreciate the feedback
Darren you should do a video on the trick to changing the packing on your bull wheels! It's a art!!! Love your videos, keep them coming.
I have worked on carnivals that setup the oldest genies by hand, no equipment but block and tackle.

Big part of my day is you tube I love it 😀
This was very cool, great family. I thought that was a Big Eli for a sec, with the buggy seats and drive cable and all.
Man I love the traveling life ❤

I want to know where Mike got that vest from
Nice video
Yes, he was an engineer. A very reliable piece.
I sat up a 1939 Big Eli HY 5 carrier mounted
Looking good there miss thang lol
Wpe had no problems settling up and tearing down whe we had the wheel half up we had a frames and tow bar we never set ours the way you do
id like to know how to get started with bigger rides. as i have yet got established where i'm located. i have a few small rides.
I prefer Eli with the cable dereck on the axle and the rim irons are hinged between the spokes.. also Eli the elephant ears stay on the spokes , they fold up.. do you have problems with the cable slipping on such a small bull gear?
our Ely wheel was an HY5 and the wheel opened up the other way
we called them hoppers
Your new wheel is heavier than this one. The single axle on this wheel is a dead give away lol
Question , even tho you “donated “ Domt they still have to pay for insurance and liability ??
They paid for the rides, he donated the games. Not much insurance needed for a game.
Eli bridge makes wheels and I worked on the one that the owner designed it some how to setup
How loud are the generators?
I see Mike works for Jonathan Brooks.
fat man equals love
