  • Yin Style Baguazhang is an art of striking while moving. It employs intricate kicking, throwing, and grasping techniques which are set up by strikes executed as the practitioner moves around the opponent in a circular fashion.

Is this why old clips of kungfu masters fighting look like slap fights because they're trying to grab while not trying to get their limbs grabbed?

    Street fights don't have rules.
You can use any technique to fight your attacker.
The Bagua strikes and blocks can be deadly in a real situation.
Self defense is not against the law.
The video lessons are meant to teach the basics of how to fight.
Bagua or Kung Fu is not self defense: Kung Fu and Karate is all about fighting to win a fight.
Most Karate and Kung Fu schools now call themselves self defense schools because of legal problems if a student injure or kill a person during a fight.

Do you know about Aikijutsu? It's roots are in Pakua actually not Japanese martial art as such actually........Read up on it....Same with Judo.
Then you'll see street fight applications.........Pakua is not a goofy Kung fu move style.

You'd push someone away and let the ground or environment do the damage. Keep in mind he's not using full force, if you get someone off balance and push them like this they'll get launched, which will probably mean they'll fall, in which case they might crack their elbow or head or something, or they might hit a parking meter, wall, corner, etc...
And then later if they try to sue you, you can just say you pushed them away in self defense...

Watch two guys go at it that don't have any education in fighting, and you'll see their forearms touching a lot, that's where this comes in. Same with push hands in Tai Chi. The problem with striking styles like Karate, MMA, Kung Fu, and boxing is that you mess the person up, and that's where you get in trouble with the law.
Also, this technique is great for getting some distance between you and your opponent.

@@stefos6431 Hi. Aikijujutsu didn't actually come from Baguazhang. There are circular similarities but that's about it. Baguazhang was invented in the 1800s and Aikijujutsu was invented around 1100 A.D. by Minamoto Yoshimitsu and it was kept very secret within the family. I don't mean to be rude at all. This is a common misunderstanding and I hope you have a great day!
