Great video, I just switched to tablet around a week ago and after a couple of days I started hovering because personally I find that I can be more accurate. Pretty much everything you said about both play styles is true and I hope to see more videos from you as well
When I started tablet for the first time, I used my phone as a tablet. my first instinct was actually to hover (granted I literally JUST started) but I blame that on me getting my tablet to draw and animate first rather than playing osu first, so im more used to moving it around without having it down.
@@Goose-kb2yo I'm not OP but I guess they mean hovering when you don't actually draw but just move around on the canvas. When you're using your drawing software, your pen will probably be in the air more than on the tablet. Drawing/input = dragging. Movement = hovering. In osu you only use the pen for movement, the input is done with the keyboard. A friend of mine who is an illustrator intuitively hovered for this reason too.
@@Goose-kb2yo i will add on to what Nirax has said, as i also first got my tablet for drawing. when i'm drawing, yes i drag on the screen, but sometimes i switch to other windows (ex. checking social media or changing music). then i would hover because dragging would be like constantly holding left click while moving your mouse. outside of drawing, i only really need to put my pen down if i want to click a button, so i stick to hovering in osu (and of course, i want to save my pen nibs for drawing)
BTW I use a drag playstyle and don't have a tablet cover, one disadvantage is that the more I scratch the tablet the more the feel of the surface changes and over time the scratchyness has increased the friction of the tablet changing how aiming feels. Although I use a Gaomon 620 so the surface material is probably cheaper. I didn't buy a tablet cover because it is legit cheaper to buy a entirely new tablet than to buy a cover off the popular websites.

Also for dragging friction some pen nibs when new are cause a scratching feel but after a bit of use they wear in and are smooth. I prefer dragging since my hands are too shaky to hover.
The biggest problem with dragging (especially on cheaper tablets like my trash veikk) is that your pen nibs wear out quickly and if you don't keep an eye on it, you may find yourself with a square tip or a flathead-screwdriver tip (the latter was the case for me). I just started using tablet today, and immediately did the hovering technique 😂. But, I’m gonna try dragging too to see which technique I like better. Though, I think hovering is my comfortability
For a long time i was a Hover user, and always my right thumb and right arm hurt after a couple of songs. I tried many grips an couldn't find one that didn't hurt and was precise. I decided 2 days ago to try and drag my pen. It solved al my problems: - Nothing hurts any more - I have a normal hold - My accuracy increased instantly. I'm S-99% or SS songs that i could barely get A. My largest flaw was that i could not do accurate jumps, now i can. - And i can do really small and fast spinners. I could never do small spinners, they always had a big diameter and were more oval-square shaped. Now i can do the tiny, smooth, and hypnotising spinners top players do. To put it with numbers, i could do a 14000 point spinner before, now in the same song and spinner i can do a 24000 point spinner.
I hover and my only problem is that sometimes when I'm doing big jumps I hover too high and my pen movement is not captured anymore, sort of a "tablet drift", but otherwise I pretty much enjoy hovering a lot. (also I forgot to mention, but I drag to do spinners, and I'm also gonna try that thing of dragging when doing streams)
I personally use a small plastic card, put it on my wacom then drag. It doesn't scratch the tablet, the card is smooth so I can go fast( I play with small area).
I disagree with your statement that hovering makes aim shaky and inconsistent. I am a hover player. I did not experience the problems stated in the video. I can do squares easier in hover than drag. When I drag, I will get super duper slow in jumps. I even rather play with mouse over dragging. EDIT : EVERYTHING IS PREFERENCE.
i have a foxbox cover and it felt weird at first but honestly i tried my other tablet without a cover and i hate it you will grow to love the cover plus u can make it cool looking or have ur own waifu on it highly recommend
I play drag but the thing is, i put my mousepad over the tablet. I feel like i should learn to hover cause i feel like the mousepad is making my aim slow. I used to be a mouse player that can set 270-290pp constantly. After switching to tablet for three days, i can currently set 200pps with it. Should i just drag on the tablet or is it the same if i put my mousepad on it?
Came here to see if peoople hover their wrist or have their wrist on the table. Bc my whole arm pretty much hovers over the desk, but i do drag on the pad. Does anyone else do this bc seems like everyones puts their arm on the desk
I used to drag, but I hover now, because it lets me have a looser grip on my pen. Used to have a problem with using skull-crushing grip to keep my pen from slipping. Now, I hover, but I still drag when I do spinners.
awesome video!!! earned a sub. Also i hover 100%. i have the good tabletdriver drivers which i think its a smoothening filter, i dont see the shakiness that you explain here unless i do insanely far jumps! does whitecat have some smoothening filters too?
i decided to start dragging due to a genetic issue where i passively shake nearly all the time this was after a few months of suffering with shaky aim that had no correlation with nerves or stimulant use
You could also buy less scratchy pen nibs.. there’s ones that are more… squishy…? If that makes sense? Lots of pen nibs that artists use are soft and don’t scratch (unless you’re like, going crazy on the surface. And even then it just wears the nib more than the surface)
When I first started using tablet I didn’t drag because I had my mouse buttons enabled and when I drag I literally can’t hit anything properly. A year after hovering I realized that I can turn off mouse buttons but its already too late.
I dont have a tablet but when i came over to my friend's house and tried one for the first time, i instinctively hovered and not dragged, am i the only one?
I played for about 2 years with hover cause I was afraid of scratching my tablet. But then I decided... eff it, it's old anyway, and I play on a rather small size so I can just... move the spot until I kill it. But, since I started dragging, I gotta say that my aim has improved immensely in just a few months. So, I'm sticking with that now :D
can someone tell me why is it when im playing osu with a tablet i cant press the buttons if i drag? like i have to pull out my pen nib to drag because it wouldnt register the keyboard clicks

For a long time i was a Hover user, and always my right thumb and right arm hurt after a couple of songs. I tried many grips an couldn't find one that didn't hurt and was precise. I decided 2 days ago to try and drag my pen.
It solved al my problems:
- Nothing hurts any more
- I have a normal hold
- My accuracy increased instantly.
(also I forgot to mention, but I drag to do spinners, and I'm also gonna try that thing of dragging when doing streams)
put a finger down to help you rest down to keep a fixed distance. also adds friction. ez
for spinners it's simple, just spin pen around the finger tip which you aim at the center of the playfield
EDIT : EVERYTHING IS PREFERENCE.
do you use a finger to stabilize/keep tablet-pen distance fixed?
i swiched from hover to drag
How do you only have 500 subs? You deserve more man
thanks! ^^
I’m forced to hover since xp pens press when you lay the tip down on the tablet
i drag with an xp pen? you can just turn that off
@@briannavo5893 ah, I have gotten used to hovering though so I will stay like that
i have a foxbox cover and it felt weird at first but honestly i tried my other tablet without a cover and i hate it you will grow to love the cover plus u can make it cool looking or have ur own waifu on it highly recommend

best part of the video ngl
Very informative, earned yourself a sub :D
aww thank you!
I personally hover on jumps and drag on spinners or I start draggin if I feel like I'm getting nervous so I don't drop combo
Damn
i thought hovering was commong because i cant stand the scratching
I'm sure that it's the superior style if you consider adding a finger to help with stabilization and friction issues
I tap singles but alternate in multiple, is that normal?
BRO I THOUGHT I WAS ON A GIGGUK VIDEO FOR LIKE 5 SECONDS LMFAO you sound so similar to him its crazy wtf, also great vid man
rickygotclout really!! haha I’ve had this comment a few times and thanks!
i decided to start dragging due to a genetic issue where i passively shake nearly all the time
this was after a few months of suffering with shaky aim that had no correlation with nerves or stimulant use
You could also buy less scratchy pen nibs.. there’s ones that are more… squishy…? If that makes sense? Lots of pen nibs that artists use are soft and don’t scratch (unless you’re like, going crazy on the surface. And even then it just wears the nib more than the surface)
I tend to hover mostly but drag for spinners. Probably just cus I suck ass but it helps make consistent circles for me
boothardt same for me boss
I have to hover with tablet when there is streams, other wise it will count 3 buttons pressing and I’ll fail, I can’t even do bursts either.
if my pen touches the tablet BUT i dont make it drag hard by using pinky as support. is it kinda drag but less friction
I also hovered when I first got my tablet! Mainly because I didn't know you can turn of mouse buttons lol. I still use hover until now
I hovered first then dragged
I played for about 2 years with hover cause I was afraid of scratching my tablet. But then I decided... eff it, it's old anyway, and I play on a rather small size so I can just... move the spot until I kill it. But, since I started dragging, I gotta say that my aim has improved immensely in just a few months. So, I'm sticking with that now :D
what is the skin of the minute 3:28 plz
?
can someone tell me why is it when im playing osu with a tablet i cant press the buttons if i drag? like i have to pull out my pen nib to drag because it wouldnt register the keyboard clicks
dumb question: i tried hover but i shake like a cup of water being banged by an 9.0 earthquake, and my question is, with practice and time, your pulse and shaky aim will be reduced?
